1856 - Our Founder William McBeath was born in the village of Callender. Willie's dad peter owned a general store on Callender's main street and the family home was above the store, which is now the Waverley Hotel.
William had an older sister, Jane, and an older brother, Peter. Another boy was born after William but he like so many other children of the time, died in infancy.
Tragically, his dad peter passed away in November 1864. Shortly afterwards, his wife took William and his sister Jane to Glasgow to start a new life. By the time of the 1871 census, the McBeath's were living at 17 Cleveland Street, living in the same close were five members of the McNeil family, including brothers Peter and William.
It was the following year at the beginning of 1872 the four boys had an idea to form a football team. William McBeath played in our first ever match against Callender and according to fellow Ranger, William Dunlop, "was awarded man of the match then spent a week in bed recovering from his exertions" ! William went on to become Rangers' first ever President in 1874.

After two barren years when they won no major honours,Rangers bounced back with another domestic double of Scottish League and Scottish Cup.It was close run on both competitions,none more so then the League which went to the final match.Once again it was Hibernian,champions in the two proceeding seasons,who ran Rangers closest,and on the final day of the season a draw or preferably a win would take the title to Ibrox.Things didn't go quite as planned,and a Willie Waddell equaliser 15 minutes from the end gave Rangers the point required.They won the title,but only on goal average from Hibernian.

it was the midweek after we won the league at pittodrie, and was mostly reserve teams , and of course very few mentally challengeds turned up to their own hovel after us winning the title,, the bears that were there sung them out the park that night ,all capped off by a late lex baillie og
