At the end of the game the 39,131 crowd gave the departing Ray Wilkins a standing ovation, the likes of which had seldom been seen in the grand old stadium. In the two years since his arrival,Ray Wilkins had confirmed himself as one of the most outstanding midfield talents in the game and was widely believed to have been the finest player in his position seen in a Rangers shirt. He was leaving Rangers to join London's Queen's Park Rangers, where he would become manager.
1990 - Celtic 1 Rangers 2 (Johnston,McCoist) - Scottish Premier Division (52,565)
1992 - Rangers 2 (McSwegan,Hateley) Marseille 2 - European Champions League Group A (41,624)
Rangers' reward for beating Leeds United in the second round was entry into the mini-League alongside Marseille,CSKA Moscow and Bruges. Rangers' first match brought them up against the side that would ultimately go on to win the cup (although they were found guilty of match fixing and subsequently stripped of their French title, relegated to the second division and banned from defending their European title the following season),with the French club more than worth their 2-2 draw at Ibrox. Indeed,Rangers were hit by injuries, unable to play more than three of their foreigners (which included the English players) and mightly relieved to have salvaged something from the game.

1992 - fook me 25 years ago.

We really were dead and buried up til mcswegan came on and scored that brillant header.

Great come back that set us up for the entire campaign.

Some amazing memories in there.

1989 - Wilkins actually set up the first that day with a superb 40 or 50 yard pass. It always sticks in my mind that the game could have been abandoned due to fog in the second half.

1990 - two brilliant Finishes that day

1992 - utter bedlam at our second goal

1999 - possibly the best team goal I’ve ever seen us score.

1994 Played on a Friday night as Ibrox hosting the Raith Rovers v celtic cup final.

From memory, Ally missed a huge amount of that season, probaly his lowest scoring season with us.

In these dark days I derive a great deal of pleasure from the "On This Day" threads. I'm reminded of the great history of our club and of our dominance of Scottish football over the years. I'm also reminded of some of the great players who have worn our shirt. We will be back at the top before too long. Thanks to Sam English for posting.

It was his only goal of the season according to Wikipedia. Only made 9 appearances.

Previous season he only got 9, although that will be down to the leg break he sustained at the end of 92-93

1967 - Alex Ferguson (playing for us) and Colin Stein (playing for Hibs) had what amounted to a 'square go' near the old shed in front of the Derry and knocked lumps out of each other. The Bears in the shed were going mental and if they had got their hands on Colin that day they would have torn him apart. A year later he was their idol.
