1983 - Although Rangers were through to the fifth round of the League Cup,their League form had been shocking, with only three wins recorded in their opening nine games. The Rangers faithful cared little for past glories and had demonstrated after the home defeat by Motherwell against the management. And so, for seven years or so, he was, until 1990 when he returned to Ibrox in the capacity of Public Relations Manager.

as clear a penalty as you will see not given in 1990

first away win in the league that season

1998 - Motherwell 1 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier League (11,777)
john spencer scored for well and Johansson missed a one on one

2000 - Rangers 0 Kilmarnock 3 - Scottish Premier League (49,659)
Killie took a good away crowd this day , durrant played for them? and this was our 3rd defeat on the trot if i remember right...it was bad times

2014 - Rangers 1 (Macleod) St.Johnstone 0 - League Cup Quarter-final (13,023)
these games we're unsong of , beating both Inverness and st johnstone in league cup with the side we had was big ......however lined us up for the defeat off the tims

40 years ago, where does the time go , sadly in this case not far enough,I have never been able to erase this from my memory, a truly horrible result, although the following Saturday managed to pick me back up again

2014 - Rangers 1 (Macleod) St.Johnstone 0 - League Cup Quarter-final (13,023)
Had McLeod 1-0 at 14/1 that night.

1998 - Motherwell 1 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier League (11,777)

Konterman was booed all game iirc, we were 2-0 down by half time

1967 - Rangers 0 Dunfermline Athletic 0 - Scottish League Division One (40,000)

Scot Symon's last game in charge.

Scot Symon was sacked on Nov 1st 1967, despite having suffered only one League defeat in the entire calendar year of 67' .
His record in the League from December of 66' until his sacking, was 29 Games played, 21 Wins and 7 Draws.
Rangers were Top of the League and Undefeated when Symon was fired, having recently beaten the European Champions Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox in the league.

1987 - Am I reading that right that Ian McCall scored with a penalty? Seems odd assuming that McCoist, Durrant & potentially Cooper were all playing. Can’t remember McCall taking another penalty for Rangers either!

2018 - very frustrating performance and result. Still, it feels like this side has come a long way in that 2yrs.

1980 - we tried to go to Sheffield afterwards to drown our sorrows and the police wouldn't let us stop there!!! Colin McAdam missed a penalty that night also

1905 - Falkirk 1 Rangers 6 (Ruddiman 3,May,Kyle pen,Shaw) - Scottish League Division One (6,000)

Ruddiman, a name I didn't recognise, and had to do a search on him.
Thomas James Ruddiman, making only his second appearance, having made his debut one week earlier in a 3-2 win v Celtic, scored a Hat Trick at Falkirk.
He got 2 more appearances that season at Centre Forward, and 3 appearances the following season at Outside Left.
This Hat Trick was the only goals he scored in his 7 appearances.
I guess he was not going to replace RC Hamilton, or Alec Smith.

Other interesting notes from that day.
Rangers fans made up the bulk of the 6,000 crowd at Falkirk via train specials from Glasgow.
Celtic had 6,000 at their game that day v Dundee on a miserable wet day in Glasgow,
but the biggest crowd of the day was 20,000 at Ibrox for the Scottish Alliance game between Rangers 'A' (the Swifts) v Kings park.
The reason being, that the World Wrestling Championship between Alex Munro (Govan) v
Georges Hackenshmidt (Russia) was taking place at Half Time.
The wrestling match took almost an hour to declare the Russian the winner.
The Rangers 'A' v Kings Park had to be halted midway through the second half, owing to darkness, with Rangers leading 3-1!

Why was Scot Symon sacked?

The Berwick defeat from 9 months earlier, Losing the ECWC Final, and Jock Stein's Celtic winning the European Cup.
John Lawrence, a fuckin' dictatorial clueless Chairman, who was a panic merchant, had already binned two excellent forwards Jim Forrest (22 years old with 145 Goals in 163 Games), and George McLean (23 years old with 55 Goals in his last 55 Games), because of their failure to score in one game (Berwick).
Symon had taken us to our second European final in 6 years ( a feat no other British Club had achieved), and was forced to play a defender of sorts as our Striker in the ECWC Final.

Between 1960-64, Symon's Rangers had collected 11 of 14 Domestic Trophies available, with what many believe was the greatest Rangers side ever.
By 1965, Celtic appointed Jock Stein, who went on to produce the greatest Celtic side ever.
Even by 1967, when they were European Champions, we were not that far behind them.
We had played them 3 times in just over a month, shortly after they had won the European Cup, and we had outplayed them in all three games, despite winning only one of them.
We were top of the League, undefeated, when Symon was shabbily dismissed.

2018 - saw last night on twitter our midfield that day was Jack, Coulibaly and Ejaria. Looks so weak on paper now, and even under Gerrard, we have come so so far.

Great thanks Mo

1961 first game I remember going to with school friends rather than my dad. Seem to remember there were doubts about the replay going ahead on the 18th of December on a misty night.
I wonder if that’s why the crowd was so low.
Any older bears remember this too?

Great half time entertainment, whats the chances of a UFC bout at halftime these days? :))

1980 on the Saturday after the Chesterfield game was in the main stand for the one and only time at an old firm game.
We were about level with the 18 yard line at their end and I was surprised to see so many of them round about and behind us but ended up a great day winning 3-0.

I'm not old enough to remember, but the Newspaper reports from that time indicated the match (The Replay) was in doubt due to the Foggy conditions, so I guess that would explain the low attendance of 47,500 for the replay.
All 4 goals in the 3-1 replay were scored in the opening 20 mins, but it reported that few in attendance actually saw the goals.
Must have been the year of the fog.
The previous month we lost 1-5 at home to Dundee in what many described as the worst foggy conditions ever.
A win in that match would have given us the Treble that season!

1984

I was up for the League Cup 1-0 win against Scumdee Utd.

Completed a trilogy of attending matches that weekend by train.

Ticked off a ground at Doncaster's old Belle Vue on the Friday night, saw a belter of a game 4-3 to Donny v Plymouth.

Next day saw my Luton lose 3-0 at Roker Park, Sunderland.

Then train from there to Newcastle, met my Aston Villa/Rangers mate, train to Edinburgh, then Glasgow where we stayed the night at the Glasgow Central Station Hotel and had a meet up in the bar with all the Scots friends we had met on the Summer 84 lads holiday in Ibiza.

Then walking up to Hampden pre match next day, incredibly bumped into by chance, the Paisley Bears lads we had met at the Munich Beer Festival a few weeks prior.

Eventful weekend that ended great, with Gers winning the League Cup against a team who had reached the European Cup Semi Final that same year.

Ruddiman scored 7 goals in 11 league games for Aberdeen in 1904/05 at centre forward, and was then sold to Rangers. His debut was against Celtic in September 1905, a 3-2 win. Never anything but a reserve, his last appearance was also against Celtic, a 2-1 defeat in October 1906.

He moved to Port Glasgow Athletic in 1907 and made his debut for them at centre forward against Rangers in August 1907. Rangers won 6-1. He had a decent first season with them, scoring 13 goals in 29 games. But his second season saw the goals dry up, only 1 in 8 starts. His last appearance for Port Glasgow was a defeat to Aberdeen in January 1909.

Can't find any club career after that, and the only other thing that is mentioned was he was a very good cricketer.
