1959 - Rangers 5 (Millar,Scott,Matthew,Baird 2 1Pen) RSC Anderlaecht 2 - European Champions' Cup 1st Round 1st Leg (80,000)
Three years earlier Anderlecht had met Manchester United in the European Champions' Cup and lost the away leg 10-0; when they found themselves two behind after only three minutes at Ibrox there must have been thoughts running through the Belgian's mind that they could be in line for a similar defeat. Thus Anderlecht undertook something of a damage limitation exercise; limiting Rangers' threat by damaging as many of their players as they could. Rangers were awarded a succession of free-kicks for fouls committed all over the pitch, including two penalties (only one of which was converted) and should have won by considerably more at the end of the match. They went three ahead shortly after half-time,eased up sufficiently to allow Anderlecht to pull two goals back and then restored their three goal advantage to take into the second leg
1961 - Rangers 2 (Christie,Baxter) Celtic 2 - Scottish League Division One (70,000)
Two people were killed in a crush on the stairway adjacent to passageway 13 (colloquially known as Stairway 13) the exit closest to the Copland Road subway station

In 47 minutes Ronnie McKinnon began the move which led to the only goal of the game. He lobbed the ball to Persson, who had wandered into the inside-right position. In a devastating run of some 30 yards he beat Gemmell on the inside, swerved past Murdoch and Clark and then again side-stepped Gemmell who had chased back to cover the route to goal. Even then a goal seemed impossible, as the angle was acute and the range about 18 yards, but Persson, showing admirable control and coolness, suddenly wheeled round and cracked an unstoppable left-foot shot past Simpson

1987 - Dynamo Kiev 1 Rangers 0 - European Cup 1st Round 1st Leg (100,000)
Undaunted by a crowd of 100,000 in Kiev, Rangers gave as good a defensive performance as they had previously, restricting the Russians to only one clear cut chance;from the penalty spot after Graham Roberts had been penalised. The result certainly gave Rangers confidence for the second leg,but manager Graeme Souness had been worried throughout by the wing play of the Russians,in particular Alexei Mikhailichenko.Something would have to be done to nulify his threat in the second leg

1967 was that the game Davie Provan broke his leg after an assault by Bertie Auld? My dad talked of that the way I talk about the Simpson assault on Ian Durrant.

The very game.

The 'tackle' by Auld on Davie Provan happened after only 4 minutes and Davie was out for 3 months.

1987 watched it at Ibrox on a beamback to a big screen on the pitch. Sun was shining on it, couldn't make out what was happening.

Sicky from school to travel down to watch the beamback. 2 weeks later one of the many great European nights at Ibrox.
