Recent changes to the Scottish Cup format had given Junior players the length and breadth of the country the dream of locking horns with top-flight sides. For this game, a group of Juniors got that opportunity when an East of Scotland select picked from that grade, tackled the Rangers at Tynecastle. The Juniors, not surprisingly, were overwhelmed by their senior counterparts and fell to a 7-2 defeat, with James Marshall banging in four of the goals.

1904 - I hope this is an omen for tomorrow.

1970 - Think this was DJ's debut.

1979 - We had an uncle and two wee cousins from Canada at this game.

1995 - If I can recall correctly. I reckon Davie Robertson could have had a hat trick in that first half.

Certainly Hearts have popped up a few times on this day.

2017: At that game and actually thought that Pena and Herrera might just have something.

A false dawn of false dawns.

1979 - I was in the Main Stand that night fir the first time in many years. The stadium was in the midst of its redevelopment but something that I will never forget is the sheer volume of noise that emanated from the Copland. I don't know if it might have had something to do with how the sound was circulating inside Ibrox but it was like listening to an old style stereo system turned up full blast. In all the years since then I've never heard it like it was that night.

1959 what happened that day!?
1981 I'm sure that was the first time I was ever in the Govan Stand

1959 what happened that day!?

A bizarre season to say the least.
This home defeat was sandwiched with us beating Anderlecht 5-2 and 2-0 in the European Cup.
The following month we lost at home to St Mirren and Hearts, before losing at home to a Jim Baxter inspired Raith Rovs, in Nov.
We went all the way to the Semi Finals of the European Cup, and won the Scottish Cup in style,
but we did not win one single League match at Ibrox in 1960 (until August of the following season).
Over the course of that 59-60 season, we won only 5 of 17 League games at Ibrox. (all in 1959).

Can you imagine in today's game, not winning a single home League Game for 8 months!
Fortunately, Symon survived this and went on to give us one of the greatest ever Rangers sides.

1973 - Andy Penman’s final game?

1987 - Nice to see an alumni of St Modan’s score the winner for Rangers.

1914 - Rangers 1 (Bowie) Hearts 2 - Scottish League Division One (41,000)

Bowie playing in the No.8 jersey, scored Rangers only goal, in the return the score was 4 - 3 for Rangers, they would finish 3rd at the end of the season.

3 home games my dad took to in 1959, lost to Ayr Un 3-0,St Mirren 3-1 but made up for it with a 3-2 quarter final win over Hibs and went on to lift the cup.

What kind of manager was Symon? He must have known a player when he saw one etc.

I don’t think he was great on the tactics side of it,the players knew their job and performed. It was his man management skills that made him a success.

He most definitely knew a player when he saw one.
He signed Billy Ritchie, Kai Johansen, Bobby Shearer, Harold Davis, Jim Baxter, Ian McMillan, Jimmy Millar, Max Murray, George McLean, Dave Smith, Andy Penman, and Orjan Persson, all from lesser Scottish sides.
He was not afraid to bring in youth.
He developed and introduced Ralph Brand, Davy Wilson, Willie Henderson, John Greig, Jim Forrest, Willie Johnston, and Sandy Jardine, into the first team, whilst they were teenagers,
and all of them would go on to become Rangers legends.
He introduced Ronnie McKinnon as a 20 year old, who would go on to make more appearances for Rangers in the 1960's, than anyone else.
Between 1960 and 1964, he collected 11 Domestic Trophies out of a possible 14.
He took Rangers to two European Finals, in 1961 and 1967.
He was probably the most successful Manager in Great Britain, when he was shabbily dismissed in 1967

It's incredible to read that. Would you say that his Rangers team was the best ever, certainly in post war terms?
