Only one subway line running today

The club need to be pro-active in challenging the current standard of the Subway service provided.

It’s the most convenient method of getting to the stadium for the majority of our fans, yet you have regular nonsense like this, early shutting hours even if we have a game on etc.

You get extra trains put on to and from Hampden on matchdays, why is the transport to Ibrox not given similar consideration.

Even pre-covid you’d have an unsafe amount of people packing onto trains in order to make the match because the trains aren’t regular enough, particularly on Sundays.

It’s piss poor and it’s time the club got involved and give us a voice.

Get so fed up of things in this country just being accepted despite being completely sub standard and not fit for purpose.

6 trains off peak in subway, 12 during football, 6 each side. In theory train every 4 minutes each side.

Today's issue, no idea, but we really do have a paranoid element in our support

I’m talking about reality not the theory. On a Sunday in particular it’s closer to 10 minutes. Consequently you end up with trains packed, folk rammed up against the doors etc.

Not sure how you’ve decided I’m paranoid. The games to Hampden include Rangers fans travelling to semis and finals.

Public transport available to get to Ibrox, a 52k capacity stadium, is sub standard and simply not good enough. But thanks for proving the point I made in the last paragraph.

General point on public transport I agree, no joined up thinking, money down the drain for shit service. Your point was straight the tye subway don't give consideration to fans at Ibrox. Tonight being the exception, all competitive games see an increase of trains, station staff and security to get fans to and from Ibrox as quick as possible. The theory part I mentioned is more down how people behave. You will find most delays across public transport are created by selfish individuals not following staff instructions, not using common sense and generally being arses. These tend to be small delays of 10 minutes or less at a guess, longer delays are usually technical or mechanical issues.

I worked as a contractor on the subway for almost 15 years and the state of the infrastructure, stations and lines/tunnels, were deteriorating at an astonishing pace. They started to upgrade the stations about 10 years ago but the tunnels are a different matter and will take full closure over a period of years to rectify. They just do enough maintenance to keep the thing open.

If they want to stop people driving to and parking at games they need to sort this and other methods of public transport.

What an excuse of how to run a modern city. A vital transport link serving the inner city operates on the timetable and whims akin to a kiddies fairground ride. Except that the operator of a kiddies fairground ride would open when it has a lot of potential customers.

Are the trains ever off at Dalmarnock when that mob are playing?

Subway was once class leading now never mind rolling stock, its a laughing stock. Half a service and shut at 6pm on a Sunday so the drivers can get home for songs of praise

A lot of whining about Glasgow's subway being a joke and not big city with its limited operating hours but folk forget outside London no other cities except Glasgow have an underground network in the UK whatsoever. We are fortunate to have such a cheap and convenient service right on our home's doorstep.
Liverpool? Manchester Sheffield etc have a tram system which is infrastructure

SPT are f*cking at it (again) outer circle suspended yesterday on the way back and now the inner circle is suspended today. Obviously run by a bitter bunch. I've personally seen queues being deliberately held up no reason before. Been using the subway several times a week for most of my life and whenever there's an issue it's always on a matchday with no explanation.

I've been using the subway for decades and in general it provides an excellent service. Visitors to Glasgow think the same. Match day crowds put it under a lot of strain, of course, as they would with any system of that size. Modern safety management does make it harder to pile people on and slam the doors shut- but not a bad thing. Talk of targeted disruption is complete and utter paranoia.

No coincidence of course that there are major roadworks on the main arterial route into Scotland, railway strikes and subway issues including them dubbing the doors at 6pm on the day of a Rangers game .....

Excluding shutting a station to allow staff to attend a wedding.

The roadworks and strike (which isn’t actually a strike) were arranged months ago, before we had a game.

Somebody mentioned Hampden getting extra trains. I remember waiting for nearly 2 hours after a game on a Sunday. They had the hourly Cathcart circle train and a depot manager operating a single 6 car football special. Never used the train for Hampden again. 3 hours on the train for a journey that takes 30 mins in the car.

I don’t think it benefits anybody in SPT to deliberately cause issues for Rangers fans. Nobody is getting finished any earlier, they just put extra capacity on the other loop.

I'll guarantee you, you have never been held in a queue for no reason. You might not know the reason, the staff holding you might not know the reason, but there will be a very good reason. Having been on the other side here are some examples,

Medical emergency at another station, someone ill on a train (happens a lot in big crowds)

Arseholes being arseholes at another station preventing train running

Police dealing with an incident (see arseholes above)

Train breakdown

Loss of power... and my favourite...

Fans on stairs at Ibrox Inner going mental "I could get on that fucking train, there's space at the door, ffs, your a prick, bet your a Tim, ya wank, etc, etc" all because he has to wait 4 minutes for next train. I use to explain the the train is going to Cessnock which is also rammed with bears and we leave a little space so a very limited number can get on board there as well, but by that time the rage has set in and they aren't listening to you. Similar to the Inner at Partick pre game, if you have a drink in the pub and want to travel at 2.45 to get to game on time guess what, so did a few hundred others and even more in town who left at 2.30, the trains busy and you will have to wait, its not the staff, the train or the systems fault you couldn't put the pint down and head over earlier.

No complaints about the subway as I have used it for years to get to game, even pre clockwork orange carriages.
Don't know why some are upset regards last train time today as the game has been arranged for a stupid kick-off time for a Sunday, not Glasgow Subway's fault.
From Partick a longer walk but there are pedestrian foot bridges to take you over to south side.

i think the issue is bigger than ko time. For a major ciry to be shutting down a main public teansport system at 6pm on a Sunday is crazy. Imagine Barcelona doing this. By all means have a reduced service but no service at all is crazy

A proper public service would respond to that unusual time by adjusting its timetables to ensure that people can travel back safely and quickly when the game is complete.
What do you think would’ve happened if the Pope had been giving a sermon in an area of Glasgow at 6 PM on a Sunday.
It’s an absolute certainty that his disciples would’ve kept the underground running until after midnight to ensure that they all get home safely!!!

If Glasgow wants to be a major city it needs to run the Subway past 6pm on a Sunday regardless of a game or not.

Yes suppose it is but think it is best time of week to do so as it allows a good few extra hours inspection of the system in preparation for following week.

How do all these other cities manage that ruan all the time and on a much bigger scale. What is there 20 odd stations? Instead of excuses we should be looking at solutions imo

Not as many as 20 and is only a circular system built firstly in the Victorian times, for horse and cart and being slowly modernised over the years by adding trains run on electricity.
Little or no chance of expansion leaves us with what we have.
As I have already posted I have used the system for many years and have had little or nothing to complain about.
It is not the fault of the system that we have become so well supported causing the sardine effect of now.I remember going to Ibrox and being able to sit on the terracing, albeit the Broomloan Road end and watch games.
Therefore while I sympathise with all affected by the current situation,me being one of them,it is petty to blame Glasgow Subway totally for the problems, which to me are unavoidable if issues occur.
Hopefully we never have such a kick-off time again on a Sunday.

Its SPTs fault to close the system at 6pm on a Sunday regardless of football. The world has moved on and its not a case of Sunday is a day of rest. People work, people socialise. Time SPT realises it was 2021 and not 1821

That’s a lot of blame you are putting on Rangers fans.

The plan is to extend the opening hours once the modernisation programme is finished.

Seriously?
YES maybe you have never used subway,I don't know, but the behaviour of MANY Rangers fans leaves a lot to be desired.
Yesterday for instance when I arrived at Partick to board subway for Ibrox the staff there had to deal with broken beer bottles,on plarform, and as they tried to deal with those responsible ,were met with a torrent of abuse, all were wearing Gers strip or scarves.
