Optimism after today, not 1 weakness

These last few games I don’t think any of our players have had a poor game.
Quick to press and good use of the ball today and some good goals. Players whose form was up and down last season seem to realise competition for places is so fierce they have to keep to a high standard.
Candieas has always been a hard worker but his final pass and finishing was always poor. Today he looked very sharp.
Have been impressed by Edmundson so far but Ojo and Ariba especially look very good.

I am not posting fanciful stuff about what we will do but I am very optimistic about this season.

Honestly I think when Barasic plays it’s pretty obvious he’s a weaklink defensively, especially with the ball down his inside. It will cost us at some stage this season however I do think we are going to give him the chance.

It’s wrong to say there isn’t a weakness. We played very well today though and overall you are right. We look strong and there is much reason to be optimistic about the season ahead.

There have been a few false dawns over the last few years but the signs are definitely encouraging. There was lots of good movement in the team with a lot of hunger for the ball, with no one hiding as in previous times. The team looks well balanced and there's real competition for places there, with other players still to come in. I am quietly confident for 2019/20!

I thought he was more than decent today. Their best chances today esp in first half was due to poor balls played into the middle by Tav. However lucky if it was 1 or 2, the rest of the game he was his usual self.

Sorry mate you must be mistaken - Gordon Waddell has already declared Celtic have the better players. Could be quite the humble pie being consumed this coming season.

Early days but ojo actually looks an upgrade on Kent. What's that 3 appearances 2 goals 2 assists?

Firstly , it’s Barisic !

Secondly , we Win 4-0 away in Europe , 4-0 home to Marseille , and you feel the need to come on and single out our left back who’s in the first game scored and set one up and then today had another clean sheet and a steady performance where I actually thought he defended quite well. It’s just lazy picking on BB after every game just because you’ve already made up your mind that he will never be a Rangers player. Does my head in.

Our back line looks solid & there's a real direct attitude going forward, as opposed to fannying about letting a team get back behind the ball.

Jones really impressed & Barisic is showing promise too. Candias is on fucking fire, I just hope that form doesn't disappear. Being able to roam a bit seems to suit him more than being stuck on the wing though. Edmonson, Ojo, Aribo, Davis (wtf?), everyone looks fantastic! Buzzing. :))o_O

More a case of trying to convince himself I think.
You can never get too carried away pre-season but things are looking very positive.
All of the new guys are looking the part and our established players have hit the ground running.
Exciting times ahead.

A positively buzzing Jaws.

I'm away for a lie down

Left back is still an area of concern
Barisic still to convince domestically &
In all fairness to Halliday he does a job at left back but nothing spectacular / same with Flanagan

Hopefully barisic has adapted to Scottish physicality for this season , but if he hasn’t its area will need to look at in January imho (if not before end of transfer window

1st game away to Killie will tell us a lot. We struggled to break organised teams down and were like that for most of 1st half vs St Joe . If we improve this area more than any then we can win league.

Not that we should ever worry about Killie but Clarke had them well drilled and who knows what you will get with new manager. Don't think they will be as stubborn as past couple years

Before pre-season, Celtic just won a treble treble, no chance again next season, mid-pre season, pumps St Josephs 4-0 away in Europe, hmm, ok, we might have a chance at something here, then sign Helander from Bologna for £4 million and pump Marseille 4-0, WE'RE GOING TO WIN THE FUCKING LEAGUE!!!!

Wasn’t so much the physicality for me it’s his reading of the game. Got done with a diagonal ball over his head 2 or 3 times in the first half today. Still improvement required but I do think he needs a run of games to get the confidence up and see where it goes.

Brilliant signs. Ojo off the ball today showing more of his game, chasing back using those long legs to try win the ball back, made two phenomenal slide tackles that Madden blew for despite him clearly taking the ball, his vision and weight of cross for Defoe was perfect. I think Arfield, Defoe, Ojo is my preferred front line. With Aribo, Davis, Kamara in the row behind that is some frightening legs to press with.

we look solid and weve added a bit more creativity, we all knew what we needed last year and SG has delivered it by the looks of things

No they weren't.

I`ve seen enough now already to warrant a decent bet on us winning the league this year.

We will NOT be spunking daft points to the Hamiltons and St Johnstones of the world this year.

Game on.

I'd been weighing up the value of us at 9/4

i.e. Level playing field great value , usual cheating refs mmm maybe some value.

Today tipped me over the edge, £140 on at 9/4 and if that's still available going forward I'm nearly certain I'll be putting more on.

55 is on its way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Marseille have had a shite pre season so far so let's not get too carried away

But also

55

This really infuriated me, Madden is an awful referee.

Can't wait for the commentators and journalists of Scotland tell us their predictions for the season.

Really hard to manage expectations now cos we just look so fuucking good all over the park.

I promised myself I wouldn't get carried away pre-season cos I'm the eternal optimist when it comes to the gers and fancied our chances early doors the last couple of seasons (even the Caixinha one for some crazy reason), only for the stark reality to be a huge let-down. But...the whole set up now from.coaches to players, experienced and new alike, looks absolutely bang on. So many options now, gaffers biggest challenge is going to be picking right 11 for each match and keeping everybody happy.

This could be a special season ahead bears but patience still required when the odd sticky patch arrives. Cannot wait fot opener against Killie.

It's fantastic that we now have a really strong squad now, we will have a brilliant bench all the time, we have at least two quality players for every position now

Only pre season but there's a totally different arrogance about us already. We are a different beast to last season from the onset. We are winning this by a canter

You and me both.
2 friendlies and an away Europa qualifier - 13 for, 0 against.
Every single player looked fit and up for it today. Crisp passing, excellent movement off the ball and players like Aribo, Ojo and Davis looking to start an attack all the time.
Bring oor Ryan home and I’m seriously liking the cut of our jib.

Expected to see some sluggishness in our play this early but it has really exceeded all expectations.
Exciting times ahead:))

I'm not sure Polster is ready for the first team, I hope Tav stays fit.
Everyone looked good today.

How can anyone rip into Barisic after today I don't know, he was great going forward and hardly anything came down his side. He covered a lot of misplaced passes and I can't remember a single time he was skinned.
The comment was in response to the thread title about ‘no weaknesses’ , it wasn’t ripping barisic , there was nothing to rip into him on as our defence wasn’t tested today as Marseille were so poor, also in St Joseph’s game their best player, the wee winger (number 11) was down Tav’s side so barisic not tested then either

however the point remains about our left back position / squad depth and whether barisic is going to be up to the task domestically and given his fitness / injury problems to play 50+ games (as Tav does) us then going back to either Halliday or Flanagan.halliday seemed to be preferred to Flanagan I. Believe Flanagan is currently injured so currently we have only 1 specialist left back and then a stand in / utility player, no harm to Halliday but he should be 3rd Choice (at best) for left back , we need to be adding a proper left back to compete with barisic / push him on (& to replace the gap in squad at left back with Wallace leaving)

Think having increased competition is a huge help to the squad. Candeias looks raging every time he is near the ball and determined to keep his place but Ojo is also outstanding. Think Ojo will get the nod but having Candeias absolutely bursting a gut even more than normal any time he is on the park is a great bonus.
