Peterborough striker banned for historical social media posts

Poorly worded sarcasm - edited. The media in this country are always talking him up and portraying him to be unlucky or a victim. After his non apology today a journalist had already tweeted it stating ‘Fair play’.
Reading it again, I misunderstood what you meant.

I thought someone had claimed that he was as he was back playing football again as it wouldn't have surprised me if they had fed that line to the papers!

18 at the time of the tweets. Now, aged 27, he is required to complete a face to face education program... really? I mean, really? Hes not grown and matured at all in that period?

Get this shit so far to fcuk. Beyond sick of it. If i had twitter at 18 id be doing a life term by now.

I haven’t seen them so don’t know the content or context but the time period is important. There was a period where kids used the word gay and it didn’t really mean homosexuals. Everything was “that’s so f@cking gay”. In ten years time will these kids be getting pulled up?

There are words that are simply not acceptable now but the truth is they were acceptable then. So it’s really unfair to dig them out to use against people for what was the norm regardless how distasteful now. Unless they still use the words now obvs. Then I could see how re educating people might be used.

It hasn't gone full circle on historic tweets though has it. The Daily Record thing was about blatant, unashamed hypocrisy.
Of course it has. The Daily Record opened the floodgates of people being done for historical tweets etc. in the revenge pile on it opens it up even further.

It's basically an all or nothing. Folk can't (I include everyone) want some people done and others let away with it, imo. The notion it was going to stop at the Daily Record and Janey fckn Godley is naive.

The whole thing is ridiculous.

Nobody will be doing me for anything I said on Twatter a decade ago.

Jack the Sack, who runs the site, has been good careful enough to ban my account for 24hrs every 6 months or so, usually for pointing out some massively inconvenient truth to some hateful & very thin-skinned wanker.

When he does this, he always asks for my phone number. While I'm tolerant enough not to wish for homosexuals to be executed, I'm not letting him near my bottom, thank you very much.

You know the sort. Leftists who believe in open borders or that the state is racist against black people. Far-right loons who think Hitler did more good than bad & Treblinka/Belzec/Sobibor were National Socialist Butlins.

So when they come for me on Twitter they'll only get back to about July, so I'll probably just get community service.

Just don't go back on here though. I'd be waving Peter Tobin out of the jail.

But, remember, I'm mental, and that makes me a protected group. Now, where did I put those pencils and y-fronts?

There is a big difference between a “revenge pile on” and exposing hypocrisy.

Exposing the Daily Record’s shameless double standards had to be done and it isn’t inconsistent at all not to hold mildly offensive historic tweets against footballers.

How can he be homophobic when he spends time undressing with lots of other men in a small room and who hug after every goal.

BTW hope it's okay that I watched Charlie Chan at the Olympics the other night.

Yet you still log in?
Are you looking to be offended?
I know if I had reservations as to what I read on a given forum, I wouldn’t look at given forum.
Maybe that’s just me though.
I’m not offended as I’m not homosexual.

Meh, I disagree with quite a lot of stuff on here but this forum is still a good laugh.

Personally, I’m offended at people trying to demonise and criminalise ninety-nine percent of the population.
As you‘ve read all my posts you’ll have seen that I also disagree with giving him a punishment.

The Daily Record are the main instigators in this madness and it wasn't ever going to stop at exposing them was it?

I fully agree. It's how we evolve in life. We make mistakes, learn and move forward. Everything changes, not just us as people but society.
I grew up watching television programmes such as "Til Death Us Do Part" and "Love Thy Neighbour" but they would be unacceptable viewing nowadays.
Homosexuality has been well documented as having been a criminal offence as well as a mental illness when I was a kid but it is now an accepted part of life. Should those who were persecuted because of their lifestyle back then now be compensated in some way? Why should any evidence just come from social media?
Thats why you will not see these shows on the telly anymore.
If you have posted opinions in the past that you now longer agree with then perhaps you should remove the posts.

I think that if someone raised a complaint over historic persecution or discrimination based upon their sexuality, they would be odds on to win their case and quite rightly too.

George Orwell was right. Were headed for a future like 1984 , you will either be part of the establishment or a prole.

The FA saying he brought the game into disrepute with his comments, what nonsense, if so he would have been dealt with 9 years ago and not now.

Did Jonson Clarke-Harris start a campaign to get guys fired from their job, with massive impact on their lives, based on historic tweets? Making it front page news to get the message to the whole country that these guys are bad.

Really basic stuff guys. How you don’t see the difference I don’t know.
My post was actually a dig at the poster I quoted being consistently contrary on here and seemingly desperate to come over as Uber liberal, however I’m now realising that sarcasm doesn’t come across well via text!
For the record, post 78 sums up my feelings on this

It's part disturbing and part comical in a way.

You've got this 27 year old man well into a 12 year career in the game going to this face to face meeting. "OK do you remember in October 2012 at 18 years old when you *checks notes* called someone a bender?" I mean, what are you supposed to do there? Drop to your knees and beg for mercy?

I could see the value in this if he had committed a serious offense but we are talking about a few tweets when the guy was much younger.

I'd love to see how far they could take this. One day when you are in your 60s you get a call from your employers HR department. "It is alleged that back in 1973 you scrawled Hitler did nothing wrong on your desk in mathematics room 1C do you deny the charges?" Before you know it you are out of a job and being chased down the street by a mob of rainbow haired land whales that you would have easily evaded back in '73 but now thanks to ruined lungs and a bum knee they'll catch you up and have you videoed and uploaded to Reddit and Twitter within the hour so you can really begin to pay for your actions.

Society is fast becoming like that crazy ex girlfriend who catalogued every single slip up or mistake you ever made ready to be brought up at a moments notice for maximum effect.

The thing is I don't think he could even reasonably say he's sorry he made a terrible mistake or anything like that as it is almost certain he sent that tweet and never ever thought anything of it over the next 9 years. How do you even properly apologize or atone for something like that? "Oh, I am so sorry that 9 years ago when I was 18 I said a mean thing and people could have maybe been upset by that. I now accept my four match ban and 5k fine."

What a joke.

A frighteningly accurate post. There can’t be many amongst us in life who haven’t said or done things we regret, part of what makes a good balanced human being is learning from mistakes, it seems now that’s an impossible concept
