Plastic pitches = conning the fans

I thought that game was the worst I have seen, wouldn't be judgemental of the teams performance or any of the players but the pitch kills the game, even the win in Gibraltar wasn't good to watch.

Wish the club would speak out from a winning position on this (again if they already have), anyone remember or name a decent game on plastic ?

The SFA & SPFL have a duty to promote entertaining football. They must ban these pitches.

I agree that plastic pitches shouldnt let be in the spl but it’s become such an excuse for vastly better players to play poorly. I’m sure that every rangers players plays on a 4g surface at least once every week. Quit the moaning and get on with it. I’d rather a plastic pitch than some mud bath pitch full of bobbles

Could it be that the poets in charge of tv like to show us in games where they know we’ll struggle? That way the wider uk audience thinks we’re not all that and our players aren’t able to command a decent transfer value

Every Celtic game at Livvy, Killie and Hamillton is televised.

Brass neck to do anyone with bringing the game into disrepute when this is allowed.

No studies done that prove they are more dangerous they said. Knee injuries are 40% more likely, specifically an ACL injury. Jamie Murphy has been robbed by this pish. Looks to me that players aren't giving their all on these surfaces and I don't blame them. Not to mention the ridiculous way the ball reacts on it.

Total disgrace.

I could imagine some of our new signings walking out on that today and thinking WTF? Decent leagues wouldn’t allow it, although I get why lower league teams have them. No excuses for the top flight though.

They're the worst thing about scottish football. Get rid already.

I watched Morherwell's game with Hearts on Friday and their pitch was immaculate so fair play to them.

What’s the point nobody listens! Gerrard mentions how bad they are every time we play on them. It needs ALL the teams with grass to get together and get them thrown out of our game especially at the top level.

Conning is a bit much.

We know what teams have and don't have a plastic pitch so it's not like we're surprised when we turn up on them.

They're not ideal but the problem is with the SFA/SPFL not the football clubs.

I might be wrong but I think the EPL banned plastic pitches and I can't think of any in the lower divisions

rightly so

If we draw a team in the cup that have these pitches the tie should be moved to a grass pitch. East Fife surely would not complain about moving it to a bigger ground. It would give them extra gate money. A ground with a 2000 capacity for their biggest game of the season is a joke. It should be about trying to attract people to the game. Playing games on this type of surface is a farce.

If you’re a part time side then, as much as I hate watching games played on artificial surfaces, then I understand why you have it and can’t really be critical.

If you’re a full time side then it shouldn’t be allowed, as simple as that. If you can afford to pay players full time then you can afford a full time grounds staff to maintain a proper playing surface.

Got to the stage I can hardly be bothered to watch the game on these surfaces.Never seen a proper match on one yet.players running about like bambi on ice .

What we need is players to refuse to play on them. Its their livelihoods that are at stake here.Ridiculous

The worst you have seen? I take it you are pretty young then? They pitches do kill games though

It’s upto Rangers and the rest of the premier league teams to come out and make a stand against them. We’re our own worst enemy until we say something and put pressure on the spfl / sfa

It's almost a different sport like futsal, if they don't draw a line under it a team like Killie are going to buy players that are specialists on plastic and will start to guarantee top six finishes.

Was thinking this earlier, we are all getting cheated. It was woeful. The ball stops, bounces wrong/higher shite pitches.

Come on mate.

The poets away matches at the likes of livi, killie etc are televised.

Near enough all of our away matches AstroTurf or not are televised cause the tv know fine well that they will attract an audience.

Top flight clubs should be boycott from fans of other clubs. They'd soon sort it out then. Like someone said in the match thread, clubs like East Fife should be told to play on a neutral ground with a grass pitch against top flight teams. Players cost way too much these days to be risking assets like that, never mind it looking like shit.

These pitches are an abomonation.

They are a joke and should be banned from top level football. Any country with a modicum of common sense will not allow top teams to play on them.

My first wish would be bin the lot but that won't happen
So I'd settle for SPL mandatory grass pitch ,
Lower leagues let them keep them but if the a drawn at home in cup games against premier league teams the tie goes to the premier leagues ground ,lower league would probably accept that due to bigger gate receipts .
Don't see how any club in the leagues should be allowed plastic , my local junior club can use a grass pitch and a good one at that then there is no reason clubs like East Fife need plastic all they want to do is hire it out through the week for locals to play on so its a financial consideration and a sporting advantage .As I said my local junior team play on a good grass park all season and 300 of a crowd is a good one for them and they are able to maintain the grass

I don't understand why so many of our games on astroturf are televised?

It's a really poor advert for scottish football.

Because every away game is advertised. The TV companies know they are getting at least 200k viewers for every game we are on so make their money on advertising.

I hate them as much as he next guy, but Hamilton's seems to be ok. We generally play pretty well on it as well.

Definitely get rid of them from the top flight though, it's embarrassing.

Sunday league teams can manage to keep a grass pitch playable all year so there's absolutely no excuse for semi-professional teams and up to be using them.

If you can't afford balls and grass you shouldn't be playing football.
Totally agree with this. Ban plastic pitches.

Our manager said he could not risk one of our players on that pitch, a player who badly needs game time, we did well to win on that pitch with that wind, a potential pit fall avoided.

I can't stand plastic pitches it just ruins any ball movement and flow of play and it's a shocking surface to play on imo they should be banned.

It's time Rangers,Celtic,Hibs,Hearts,Aberdeen told them the spfl, sfa to ditch them or form a break away league because you can't play on they carpets

Plastic pitches have their place in the game, top league football is not that place, the SPL should be all grass, in fact like others have said at least the top two divisions should all be grass, if you cannot afford a decent grass pitch make way for a club who can

I’d bin them, I can see the financial argument but a lot of players seem reticent to give 100% on these surfaces. The fear of injury is there but often the bounce of the ball is not right.

There certainly should be none in the top league. East Fife used to have one of the best surfaces in the country, yesterday was a total joke. I’m just delighted that no one got injured.

We need to wait until a Celtic player is injured on one of these pitches. Either that, or they lose a few games and blame the plastic pitch. Just watch the media frenzy when this happens, and the rush by the SPFL to ban them.
As long as it’s only Rangers who struggle on these plastic pitches, nothing will change.

Absolutely this. Spfl should be stepping in to better the product on offer. But we all know they couldn't give less of a sh*t
Failing in their duty to protect and nurture the game.
I was of the opinion that these pitches should be outlawed in the top division but I'd go further and ban them from all league grounds.
If junior clubs can maintain a proper grass surface then senior sides can do the same.

Rangers and anyone else with a grass pitch should be putting pressure on the SPFL/SFA to ban these. So many junior teams right now are playing on good grass pitches, Pollok, Talbot, Kilbirnie Ladeside are just a few examples of teams I've seen recently playing on a quality surface. There is zero excuse for pro/semi-pro teams not to have artificial playing fields.
