Player coming back from a loan deal

I am looking forward to hopefully see Ross McCrorie back and pulling on the Rangers shirt again.
I was disappointed to see him put out on loan last season again as there is potential with Ross to become a regular for Rangers for years to come.

What’s others thoughts on the returning loan players?

His versatility might kill any chance of a top level career.

He needs to decide what his position is and stick to it for a few years now. He’s been moved from centre back to central midfield and has now spent a season at right back all in his short career and it could well bite him on the arse.

end of the day if you want to play. You play where you are told

Which means he’ll probably never really get a game anywhere unless he goes down several levels as he’ll never be the best in his position due to never nailing one down.

if he can’t find a position with us then he’s not good enough and we move on...

McCrorie made slightly more of an impact then Lassana Coulibaly yet he his heralded as the next big thing on this board and I’ll never know why
Gerrard himself said he was a future Rangers captain.
Need to keep a few Scottish boys in and around the squad but obviously they need to be of the standard required when called upon
.Young McCrorie hopefully still has a future

Pittordrie, Tynecastle, Rugby Park, McDiarmid Park off the top of my head I can think of 4 away games we were winning in the second half and lost 2 drew 2. In those situation I think McCrorie could do a good job when we need to shut up shop and grind out a win.

To be fair, Rio Ferdinand at the start of his West Ham career was CB, RB and CM

He’s an upgrade on Matt Polster
I’d expect him to take his place in the squad and be an option on the bench for RB and DM
Is he? Polster can actually pass a football for starters.
McCrorie is fine if you want someone physical with very limited ability. That's not what I want in a Rangers midfielder or RB

Gerrard’s treatment of him has been bizarre.

He was a standout in the December 2018 game against Celtic and he couldn’t sing his praises highly enough. Suddenly he was dropped for the next game and our season collapsed as per usual post Christmas.

He has it all to be our number one defensive midfielder. We need to get him back in the team. He has a much higher ceiling than Ryan Jack and Kamara IMO.

he dominated the midfield at the piggery in the 0-0 game where we shouldve won. He then dominated them at Ibrox where he won every single aerial challenge and this time we won.

IMO he hasnt been given a fair chance by SG who seems to prefer the likes of coulibaly and king over him.

Has it all? Like what?

If he's to play in midfield he needs more than flying into tackles (sometimes recklessly) and winning headers. He needs to be of some use on the ball, which he just isn't.

Same thing happened with Craig Moore he was moved around a few positions and folk thought he was a very poor footballer
He matured into a great central defender

Ross is too small to be a central defender mate.

We saw the way Dembele threw him around like an empty tracksuit.

If he can improve his passing, positional sense and curb his rashness in the tackle, he could still develop into a very good defensive midfielder.

Murphy has still got more than enough to score and create in our league if he's now fit, and for me offers far more consistent threat than Jones or Barker. Or Ojo if he was still here.

McCrorie I doubt will ever be a strong enough centre back to get in the team ahead of the more specialist defenders we have. He could still make a good defensive midfielder but have my doubts he fits the quick passing possession game the manager wants in the majority of games we play when we dominate the ball. I'd love him to succeed at Rangers, just not sure he will.

Docherty I would also love to see succeed, but although he brings great energy to the midfield I don't think he's good enough on the ball to dislodge who we have. And I still hope we upgrade in there anyway.

I think McCrorie has what it takes to contribute to the team. Games like hearts away, he could have definitely helped to win battles but you’d need a manager willing to play that way in the first place.

And I don’t see much wrong with his passing, he’s better than docherty in that aspect for sure

Wasnt saying he was going to be a central defender just that he hasnt found his correct position and used Craig Moore as an example

He's a home grown player which goes in his favour, we couldn't even have a full euro squad due to a lack of homegrown players.

Is McCrorie not 6’2?

I don't know what it is, whether psychological or otherwise but the fact he's been out on loan just signals to me a death knell when it comes to his Rangers career. How many examples of guys being sent out on loan after initially breaking into the first team then come back and be a success for us? Not many if any.

after Couibalys injury IIRC he featured a lot less & King barely played at all
McCrorie was sent out on loan to prevent the King situation of sitting on a bench or in the stand for weeks on end

McCrorie was always going to struggle to see games in that season there with Davis, Jack, Kamara & Aribo playing so well for the first half

He’s literally reported everywhere as 6’2 or 1.91m - apart from the Rangers website where it says ‘unknown’.

There was a thread on here about this before mate.

He's definitely 6ft.

He's way smaller than any of our central defenders.

I remember Robbie speaking about how they were exactly the same size throughout their youth and then Ross stopped growing, but he continued to grow a couple more inches.

I was surprised to find out that Sergio Ramos is only 6’0 as well since we’re on the subject.

I very much doubt we would have lost many games away from home last season if Ross was playing he give us more fight /passion/ strength in midfield we were out muscled in a few away games last season and i can't work out why he was put out on loan to start with for me a major mistake from the manager.

He was also outstanding at Pittodrie the night he scored especially the 2nd half he dragged us back into that game himself. The boy was missed in certain games this year but sadly I can see him moving on as he's made noises about leaving if he isn't going to play.

Couldn’t agree more.

Way smaller at 6 feet?
Edmunson doesnt look any taller.
Alan mclaren/ graham roberts didnt seem massive- maybe sideways Lol

George is over 6ft 2ins mate, but as you've rightly pointed out, he has a much broader frame than Ross as well.

Not quite Roberts build, but solid enough.

Jack is a great player for us, couldn’t play at a higher level though, But kamara will end up playing at a very good level in a league that suits him, I’d like to see McCrorie back here but let’s not kid ourselves if he leaves us it’s a downward spiral for him

He is undoubtedly talented but his desire to go to ground almost as his first option needed to be worked out of him as it exposed him at times. I’ve not been watching him at Pompey, but hopefully he’s on his feet more and fingers crossed he said ready for the squad.

You don't have to be Glenn Hoddle to be an effective DM at the bottom of a three. None of the better DM's are.

I think because we don’t really have any history of players going loan to come back and play for us, people are automatically assuming he’s not good enough or he’s off.

I think he’ll be part of squad next season. I haven’t lost hope on Murphy either, I hope he’s given a chance.

If it was up to me, I'd have McCrorie in the squad. It will be helpful to have a guy like him available for tough games we are up against it.

If Jones does go and we are struggling to find a suitable backup to Kent, I'd keep Murphy around tbh. His goal return for us and Burton is pretty brilliant for his position.

Murphy is a far superior player technically than Jones or Barker.

He's also a far bigger goal threat, which is something we've been lacking.

Would be tempted to even use him as Hagis cover at 10 and sign another winger as backup, might have lost a bit of his speed but technically he would be ideal for sitting behind a striker and nipping onto scraps.
