Fernando Ricksen Tribute (27 July 1976-18 September 2019)

The Warrior

Fernando Ricksen, bless his name
Has entered Heavens Hall of Fame
So let the flags fly at half mast
For one so loyal and steadfast

Guided by the Morning Star
He signed for Rangers from AZ Alkmaar
Each time he pulled the jersey on
His love and loyalty clearly shone

A lionheart, there was none greater
Than this our proud Dutch Gladiator
Fearless in life as in death
Courageous until his last breath

An unconquered spirit, never broken
No truer words were ever spoken
Nor truer words were ever sung
"It seems to me the good die young"

When that Light Blue Chariot swung low
He knew that it was time to go
Our warrior was borne on high
To his Guard of Honour in the sky

Onwards, upwards through the clouds
Far, far above the cheering crowds
To heaven where with glory crowned
He'll be forever lauded and renowned

Now as our tears of sorrow fall
At his tragic, sad untimely call
Lord wing his way to realms of bliss
With these words of love sealed with a kiss

"Farewell, adieu , our hero, friend
Oh Fernando, gallant to the end
God's drums of glory shall recall
You were the bravest of them all"

This really hit me hard today, I have a family connection to this terrible condition.
Fernando was such a gigantic presence and genuine personality that fought this condition the only way he knew how, face on and with true bravery
We have lost a great great man and I for one am shaken by it
