Pride of Govan Flute Band statement - Clyde Community Hall

Aye that’s the one, Cairde na hÉireann, friends of Ireland apparently. Looked at their wiki page....

Motto Don't wish for a United Ireland, work for it!
Formation 2004
Type Irish Republicanism, Irish Free State,
United Ireland
Purpose A 32 County Socialist and a Republican United Ireland.
Location
Affiliations Sinn Féin, Scottish Republican Socialist Movement

Scumbags. I’d be interested to know what it is they do. Can only imagine the are very politically active and lobby their friends in city chambers and Holyrood.

As much as that shop and even the wiki page turns my stomach, I envy how politically active/organised they are. The Protestant/Loyalist community need something similar.

I know a lad from the PoG
He once commented that most of the band come from Govan.
Well we dont know what legal action they intend to take but as residents of Govan they have the ball at their feet here.
I await with interest how the Band tackles this issue.
Play the bastards at their own game, get down to the next meeting and demand answers!

I’ve heard them argue many, many times that all they want is ‘equality’, the way they’ve used their power for things like this and fanzone shows that the desire for equality is just a smokescreen.

They want power, and hell mend us if we just continue to sit back and let them get it.

If you are local and can stand for the community council, then do so rather than whinging on social media.
The POG could make a complaint to The Charities Commission citing religious discrimination

Sound advice Rab and that is the correct way to address this. The Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator (OSCR) is located in Dundee and matters can be raised with them via e-mail. Their details can be obtained via Google. They are usually very quick to act on matters related to discriminatory behaviour. This looks to my eyes like a prima face case of discrimination.

100% it is Jim, It's up to the band in question to take it forward

Another day another attack on the loyalist community by the fenien/snp conection.

The SNP likes to come across as "all welcome", super trendy and progressive under Mama Sturgeon who is always on hand to offer her opinion on everything and anything which fits their permanently offened attitude.

The reality is the SNP and their "friends" are now doing everything they can to discriminate against everything and anything involving anyone or any orgsnisation which is connected to the Loyalist community.

100% spot on .

What do you plan to do about it?
Get pro active ...it only takes a few minutes to formulate an email of complaint

Probably was planning on sitting on my fat arse as I usually do - so thanks for the push.

Grateful if you can post to whom the complaint should be sent to and I will send in the morning.

I think just reading the name would be enough :)
I have every sympathy for The PoG and am disturbed by both this and the Fanzone issue which seems to have some sort of overlap. I also agree that Rangers fans should be more involved in community politics.

However, and I'm not picking on you especially, this, 'just read the names' patter is fucking honking. Not only odious but embarrassing, too. Picking on someone because he has a 'Catholicy' name is the action of the empty-headed %^*&-wit.

Have we learned nothing from losing Danny McGrain?

We judge folk by their actions - not because of the name that they had no decision on receiving.

For those who aren't aware, Gary MaGuire is the brother of the fat poet Kevin MaGuire who runs the Tall Cranes twitter account.
And there is a fair proportion of the story... motivated and got into positions of influence at a local level.

Our own apathy chokes us every day.

You are right mate and it contributes nothing. This jokey rolling of the eyes type patter puts us back even further. Some posters have looked beyond the name and done a bit of quick research on the people and have found out why we have a problem.

We need to be actively planning a response - I am saying this and I am the most apathetic prick going so I need to practice what I preach - to combat the now open bias from a seemingly sectarian agenda within the numerous councils within Glasgow.

I believe a few posters on here have been in touch with each other about council member elections for Ibrox and Cessnock area.

Vote our enemies out at Community, Council and National level. Turns my stomach that so many within the PUL community vote for those who want to destroy us.
Get wise or we will be second class citizens within our own country.

Actually one of the names of the members are bluenose rangers mad.
lost her father in the Ibrox disaster
And I can't see them being against this

The fire is out of control be
cause we have sat on our erses and done the square root of.
Spot on ,
Complacency will be our downfall ,
They have slowly chipped away at our history and culture over the years and now have people in positions of power to influence change ,
Time is running out to maintain Parade routes and Culture days ,
Fight for it or lose it ,
Your choice ,

So who was it that eventually e-mailed them to say their application had been rejected then?
That could be critical to understanding what's went on here.

Are the POG not the Grapes band of Chioce ?

Yes they are Robert and it is mainly local lads in the band.

Saturday's parade is to mark their 35th anniversary.

25 or so bands will be in attendance and the parade starts at 10am at New Tinto Park and heads down Craigton Rd, along Govan Rd and then into the Ibrox district and finishing at Brand St.

There will be a wreath laying ceremony at Govan Cenotaph.

It will be a very well supported parade.

Any idea what time the parade will run to mate?

Unlikely to get to Glasgow until 11.30am (coming from the ferry) and i would have liked to see it.

Will probably have just about finished by then unfortunately mate.

Pity, because it will be an excellent parade with some top bands.

Is it too late now?

They appear to be entwined in every layer of government, the law, civil service etc

And the Scottish Conservatves just want our votes, nothing more.

It strikes me that these Community Councils are like the old School Boards of 150 years ago. Then the Orangemen got off their arses, organised, canvassed & got their own elected.

Then it was not Con vs Lib but just us vs them. So f your allegiances to Con Lab Lib & if the local lodges won't organise then do it yourselves through any medium possible. It is still Us vs them

I always get mixed up between the POG and the GPB, both are outstanding bands and very professional.
I'm surprised they organised it to clash with a home game at Ibrox. Could have booked their usual hall.
A little known fact is that I was the one that organised the inaugural First of July Somme Band parade in Duke Street, think it was about 1998. It was a Friday night and 35 Bands were 0n Parade

"Clyde Community Hall is managed by a voluntary board of Directors and funded by Glasgow City Council and the Glasgow Housing Association. Clyde Community Hall is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Number SC046362"

Funded by GHA & GCC - ask them why you can't use the hall!

These Parades are not booked on a Whim, they take a lot of planning,
they wouldnt have known the fixtures when the band started to organize this years parade, most of us dont even know when we are playing on a Sat or a Sunday, the matches get changed frequently.

The fixtures have been out since June, it takes 42 days to apply for a public Parade, I organise my whole life around Rangers games.

Should have said that I think it would have been a better day for people to make plans to attend if not on a matchday.
Doesn't alter the fact the the Band should have been allocated a Let

yes the fixtures come in June, but how many games get moved, only last week Hamilton away was rearranged from original fixture. and i can assure you your not the only one who`s life is consumed by our great club.

I believe it does, as well as the Govan Arms mate.

It's a well organised and disciplined parade though.

The band didn't know a year ago that Rangers would be at home , that's why it's an "anniversary" parade.

Parade will be finished well before kick off time and I'm sure we will see you standing at the door of the pub as usual showing your support as you have done in each year the parade has passed by your door ;)

The fire is out of control because we have sat on our erses and done the square root of.

To a certain degree, this is most certainly the case. Us sitting on our arses, is very much the reality of what we have now and it's going to be a long way back. The wrong people are running not just GCC. but Scotland as a whole.........

To get the thread back on track , would I be correct in assuming that the person who issued the email to the band would be a certain Mr Dornan ???

I don't expect an answer to this question but when a board member has not replied to the POG then when is it correct for a non board member to have this authority ??

So , when is a community not a community ???

When there are Protestants involved seemingly.

This stinks of discrimination and I sincerely hope that the community of Govan and The Pride of Govan Flte Band responds with a ferocious fight back and plenty of support.

I never said I was but there is no way Dundee at home would have been moved for TV
Can you PM me details of the person who runs the POG

I think the parade will be at the pub before 11

Band parades don’t just happen on a whim there probably booked up the day after their last annual parade.

Well said Paddy Murphy.

Yes I detest that attitude also. As my old Grandad (a proud orangeman) used to say it's not the name that makes the man but the man who makes the name. Based on my Grandads name on both sides of my family here sometimes I would be on a life time ban
