PORTUGUESE police swooped to arrest three men for drug trafficking after they were caught trying to sell narcotics to Rangers fans ahead of tonight's Europa League showdown.

But they praised Rangers supporters in Braga for their 'festival atmosphere' ahead of the game.

Over 5,000 Gers fans are expected in Braga for the second leg of the last 32 clash, second leg showdown and hundreds of police and security forces will be in attendance.

And the local Portuguese cops swooped to arrest three local men who were trying to sell drugs to Rangers fans in the city's Praca da Republica after they were caught by undercover officers of the Portuguese PSP (Policia de Seguranca Publica).

They stated: "The PSP of Braga today arrested three individuals suspected of drug trafficking, this afternoon, with the fans of Rangers in the centre of the city.

"The suspects approached Scottish supporters under the pretext of selling sunglasses and also ended up trying to sell narcotic substances.

"But the atmosphere has been festive among supporters of Glasgow Rangers."

Meanwhile, the security forces have revealed they will ensure rival fans are kept apart tonight at a stadium where Wolves supporters previously complained about heavy-handed treatment.

The Molineux club complained to UEFA about the way their fans were treated by local security forces and the police when they brought 6,000 fans to their Group Stages match in November.

Braga's PSP declined to reveal how many of their security forces will be in attendance during the day.

It happens all the time in Portugal. In Lisbon there are parts where you will be offered drugs 10 times within 100 metres. Cops don't care.

So true. In Lisbon cops were actually watching from a patrol car when a guy came up to us trying to sell drugs. They just stayed in the car.

Is it just me or is this not linked in anyway and just another attempt to bring our fans into headlines? Typical Sun!
We encountered at least 20 occasions last night when we were offered drugs. Porto's streets especially near to the Douro are notorious for that.

Plenty of drug dealers in Portugal, in Lisbon they'll just walk up to you offering whatever you have with the police not far away.

Wolves took 6000.

5000 Rangers fans are expected.

What a fùcking laugh!

Actually think that may be correct. How often do Wolves get the chance to go on a Euro trip, not a lot thru' the last few decades. Even Raith Rovers took a few thousand to Bayern Munich, based on novelty factor.

Suspect that is just what happens though and nothing to do with our fans just trying to make a tenuous link.

These cnts selling drugs are rife in Portugal I noticed. Lisbon especially is bad for it with them asking you if you want to buy stuff every 10 meters.

They focus on the sale of the drugs rather than celebrating the festive atmosphere thousands of Rangyfans are bringing to the city!!!

But the point is, they know who to target, boozed up :) football supporters being an easy hit (pardon the pun) for them.

A lot of these 'drug dealers' are locals passing off the likes of baking soda as 'coke' to the drunk and gullible. Thinking about it, probably why the cops in Lisbon don't bother half the time. You can't get arrested for dealing in cookery products.

They’re notorious for it in Albufeira. Know quite a few folk
who have been sold dud gear.

See the sun have just ran a story complete with video of our fans on a flight singing the "We hate Catholics" song.

Will people ever learn

When we arrived in main square earlier today, Portuguese guy was try to sell scarfs, and then coke. Not sure if it was diet? Lol!

The Wolves number will be accurate.

5000 Bears in Portugal with over 2 months notice before the game though and the knowledge that tickets are freely available?

Just not buying that.
