Rangers FC Pre Season Plans Announced - Training Camp at Englands St George’s Park, Ibrox Friendlies Vs Club Brugge and Middlesbrough

Genuine question, do we have a friendly or two arranged vs some cannon fodder? Pre season has been a shambles for a few years now where we've played teams and been a disjointed mess throughout. We did used to do this and get some attacking practice in and some shooting practice

I’d always have us playing against a shite team just to get the goals in and get the strikers feeling confident.

Last few years as you say nothing like it.

Yeah, but we've also had some howlers against teams we'd describe as that in pre-season too. It's quite rare for us to rip someone apart in a friendly no matter their level, I reckon.

Talk of a BCD game against TNS at Auchenhowie today. Strange, if true, as they played Ayr United yesterday. We do play them fairly often in pre-season though.

We've done it plenty of times over the years of BCD games over 2 days. Just a mix of rotating the squads or only 40/45 mins per game depending how long the games are.

Not quite understanding why it’s all so quiet on the pre season front. If we have been playing games behind closed doors surely they’d at least talk about it.

I know it’s a friendly but, that’s very poor. Especially with the eleven that played

Yeah, we can be spared the "friendlies dont count" spiel too.

Too often they've been a marker for how awful we look at the start of a season.

While beating Real didn't mean we'd suddenly win the Euro Cup, there can be a lot taken from continual defeats to crap in preseason.

We need players in sharpish to freshen things.

Our recent pre seasons seem to be a good gauge of how the season eventually pans out. Distinctly remember watching us against Hamburg and Olympiakos a few years ago and thinking our defending and finishing would cost us. It did, and then some. I know today is one week into pre season but do we need to sound the alarm bells?

I’m all for optimism and all that but part of me things it will be the same old until some more bodies come in.

Is there any other team of our size that is only playing public 2 pre season games . Seems very odd.
Assume it's also taking into account 2 more qualifying rounds this year. But does still feel very light.

Someone mentioned a testimonial for Tav. Maybe just tell him the Panathanaikos home game is his testimonial.

Correct, hopefully nobody is attempting to blame Martin for this because it’s an eleven of players we all know consistently fail time and time again.

It’s more a point of how glaringly obvious it is we need an overhaul. The youngsters can obviously stay but ‘senior players’ need moved on

The preseason we beat Real Madrid, we also lost to Tranmere Rovers a couple of weeks prior.

I'll be more concerned if we're still losing the friendlies at the end of preseason with a stronger starting 11 and some new signings playing. Alarm bells rang loudly under Beale that preseason and those fears rang true in the end.

Today's starting 11 didn't feature a single player I'd expect to start away to St Mirren on the opening day of the season, so no concerns from me on that front.

Might be posted elsewhere, if it is I apologize, Panathinaikos play four friendlies before they play us - Metalist 1925 ( Jul 2nd), Schalke ( Jul 9th), Braga ( July 12th) and Westerlo ( July 16th). They had a fifth against Nordsjaelland scheduled for July 5th but that’s been cancelled.

I think there's a decent chance Tav, Jefte, Rice and Danilo will be among the starters in early games (Motherwell away first as an aside), but we'll see.

I think you're right to say that pre-season friendly results should be looked at as a collective rather than individually. Even then, it's hard to take much from it.

Ah yes of course, it's Motherwell away first, not St Mirren.

I'll be surprised if any of those players are in the starting 11 on the opening day of the league campaign.

Tavernier for me has the best chance, although only as a centre half if Aarons is fit enough to start at right back.

The link to Owen Beck indicates Martin wants a new starting left back over the two that's currently here.

I think all four will get plenty of game time this season but I just don't think they'll be starters, initially anyway.

Hmm that's a decent list for them.

We should be playing teams who will provide stern opposition but a defence who will allow us to score a couple of hat tricks :D

Nordsjaelland that game isn't cancelled - also according to Danes it is 3 x 40mins on Saturday

I seen it myself when typing Panathinaikos into Google search that it was postponed

Any news on more games while we're down there? You'd like to think we'll get more than bounce games between squad or some U21 side.
(Not a plea for an away day :p )
