Wow. Shagger has a shot at top 10.

Fair play to guys like Howard who played a bulk of their games at lesser clubs.

Found that online and think it’s actually from start of 20/21 so Shagger could very well be in the top 10 already.

The Sun ran it on 30th June 2020 and he was 240 then as well. Other random sites have it posted as well between then and now.

According to transfermarket he got 22 clean sheets last year and 1 so far this year so 263 total puts him 8th assuming he’s over taken everyone else in between.

In saying that transfemarket has him at 248 CS in 584 games so who knows!

Great record anyway.

Surely McGregor should be pushing to get into the top 10.

Does anyone know if such a list exists anywhere?

I’d love to see those stats.

According to the Sharp file:

Peter McCloy 214
Jerry Dawson 166
Allan McGregor 162*
Stefan Klos 143
Willie Robb 131
Bobby Brown 121
Chris Woods / Billy Ritchie / Tom Hamilton 120
George Niven 113
Andy Goram / Herbert Lock 110

*I'd say McGregor is now in second as this was last compiled at the beginning of last season.

Stats for shutouts are not so easy to find, but here´s the top 10 list of postwar shutout records for Rangers goalkeepers up to 1997:

1) Peter McCloy - 214 / 535 games, 40,0 % clean sheets
2) Billy Ritchie - 120 / 340 games, 35,3 % clean sheets
3) Chris Woods - 119 / 230 games, 51,7 % clean sheets
4) Bobby Brown - 109 / 296 games, 36,8 % clean sheets
5) George Niven - 106 / 327 games, 32,4 % clean sheets
6) Andy Goram - 99 / 225 games, 44,0 % clean sheets
7) Stewart Kennedy - 45 / 131 games, 34,4 % clean sheets
8) Norrie Martin - 41 / 110 games, 37,3 % clean sheets
9) Nicky Walker - 37 / 97 games, 38,9 % clean sheets
10) Jim Stewart - 34 / 92 games, 36,9 % clean sheets

Stats according to Rangers Player by player by Bob Ferrier & Robert McElroy. Wartime shutouts are not included.

Peter McCloy has the most shutouts, but Chris Woods has by far the best shutouts to games played record.

As did I mate and he was nowhere near as bad as people make out. A very competent keeper who happened to make some mistakes just like every other keeper. You dont play the number of games he did if your shite. Posters on here paint him as an earlier version of Cammy Bell its mental.
Agree totally
I’d have him in my top 5 of our keepers after Goram , Klos , Shagger , Woods

Gotta be eyeing Van der Sar's 266 this season. Just about doable... And if he gets it we get 56 I bet!

I stand corrected in regards to Peter McCloy.
At 59 years old I saw him many times and he was prone to the proverbial clanger.
In my opinion he was a steady goalkeeper and that's about it,he was fortunate he played with some great defenders in his career for us and protected him.

He does
Usually by people who never seen him
He was solid for a long time
After Billy Ritchie we had a number of keepers who failed to consistently perform well. For me McCloy fell into the same bracket. What he did have was an ability to regain the jersey from Kennedy and Stewart who for periods were far better keepers.

I always thought he played on too long and was making more mistakes than you would expect. He was a very good goalie at his peak.

One of the other posts tells it like it is.

The big man was Mr Dependable for the best part of his career.

His howlers came mostly towards the end of his playing days.

Never the fanciest or most dashing of keepers but he did Rangers proud.

Also, remember Big Jock Wallace was a former keeper and probably had an idea of the big man's worth to the team.

Woods played 173 games. If that’s correct that he kept 120 clean sheets that’s some record.

Ma main man shagger being in the top 15 of GK clean sheets is awesome.

He can do top ten easy.

Genuinely didn't know he was in such elite company, world class.

The curly-haired bombscare that is Andriy Pyatov in the top 10 renders this list completely redundant unfortunately.

Played more games than the rest.

Must admit, the first name I thought of was Jerry Dawson.
The Prince of goalkeepers, he would have lost several years to the war though - which is probably his record isn’t as good.

Feels like he gets an awful lot of criticism!.

Went down in stages.

Always remember him swinging from the bar, I think it was the 1978 Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen, as the ball went in the net. Don't know what was going through his napper at the time.
