Rangers have bid for Oldham defender George Edmundson rejected

I'm disappointed in the lack of 'We shouldn't be signing Oldham players FFS' type posts.

English market, a year left of his contract in the 4th tier. Yeah ... TM "eavluates" him at 50k for that alone, Oldham adds the 400k "English inflation" ... I for one wouldn't bid much more, TBH.

No, just walk away now. We’ve offered what we think he’s worth and they’ve rejected our bid and, according to the report, bids from three other teams (presumably in the same ballpark) because that want a ‘bidding war’. F*ck that. Move on.

All depends on how much the club want him.

I love people's mad reaction to these threads. There's almost an element of "how dare they", when a bid is rejected. Same people want to hold out for a gazillion for our own players.

This is life, the selling club has every right to try and get the best deal possible, they will push it if there is more than one club interested.

Rangers ultimately need to decide on our next move in terms of whether we want the player, or think we can get better value elsewhere.

Whatever happens, I trust Steven Gerrard's judgement - and if he wants to persist with it then fine but if he comes to a certain point in the process and he feels we need to walk away then this is also fine. It'll play out either way. This is what happens.

Why? If he is a player that our scouts & management have followed to the point of making an offer then why would we just fold the second our opening bid has been made?

This.

And we do not know what the club value him at. We may have simply bid, what Oldham valued him at.

Rangers may value him at slightly less, or slightly more.

The same Steven Gerrard who dropped Katic for Worrall .... lets hope John Brown has had a hand in scouting this boy !!

Steven Gerrard has learned a lot in the past season. He knows full well where he has made mistakes and made mis-judgements.

That's why I have even more confidence in him in this transfer window and for the forthcoming season. He will get it right. 55 is on its way. The man will deliver.

He is out of contract next year

He will refuse to sign a deal

He can move to us for nothing next year (but not an english team)

He will sign for us shortly

and then benched him for a donkey ....

my apologies ... i totally forgot people on here cant tolerate any criticism of our manager

The post you quoted was in relation to trust of Gerrards judgment - your way of critiquing Gerrard - is to use Katic - a player we signed on the basis of..... Gerrards judgement.

So his judgement is only to be critiqued when he signs players not what he does with them when they are brought in ? His Judgement was that Worrall was a better option then Katic for most of the season .... massive mistake for me

They are both perfectly competent players that validate claims as to why his judgment should be backed, as is the other CB he signed.

We have been good at the back for the most part this season - it was a massive problem area for us which we went out and solved.

No chance we'll have offered what we think he's worth with our first bid.

In 2018 Aberdeen’s top goalscorer left them for a then conference/national league side. The money down south is ridiculous. But there are gems to be had...

Aberdeen’s top scorer this year was Cosgrove who got one league goal less than Morelos, he played 12 games for league 2 Carlisle and scored 1 goal (his only senior goal) before Aberdeen signed him. He got 21 goals in 44 games last season.

You and I differ on our opinion of Worrall i think ... and while i agree that the defence has improved ..... it looks most solid with when Goldson is partnered with Katic

Literally no players would ever be transferred for money if that was the case.

ok fair point mate ... out of interest, what's is you opinion of his judgement of playing Worrall in preference to Katic for most of the season ?

Never had the issue with it some have, I think for the most part Worrall has been perfectly fine

Katic was new to the country needing bedding in coached, better use of the ball - long term asset who has been progressed and looked after - a project player for a manager here on a longer term deal.

Tis all good to me.

I know changed days. I remember fairly recently a star striker was thinking of jacking it in and going back on the tools as a plumber.
I doubt he was a “star” striker if he was considering going into plumbing.

Unless of course it was for a moustached porn star plumber.

That, I could understand.

If the management team really want him then pulling out of a deal because our first bid got knocked back would be crazy.

People also make it seem like £500,000 is a lot of money, it’s absolute peanuts in football now and a fee that we can easily afford.

Cosgrove was absolutely hopeless for Aberdeen, and then it was like a switch was flicked and he couldn't stop scoring.

A really weird player.

Should offer cash + a friendly, good day out for the travelling bears and Oldham would make some extra cash off it too

People won’t really grasp the fact that dropping him for said donkey actually really benefited him. At the time he dropped him he was having issues I believe back home and his form has severely dipped. Now look at him.

Sorry mate ,but no one here knows the terms of Worrall's loan. Maybe he was forced to play him because of the terms. Until you know that keep your Redskins helmet on.

lol.... yeah i wonder who could have agreed to terms like that .... don't think it would have been the gaffer right enough .... he doesn't make bad judgements

Half a million quid for a player from a mid table 4th tier team and they want more. Cant say I'll be dissapointed if we look elsewhere. We got a young high potential croatian international centre half for less than 3x that.
Maybe not the best comparison.
We spent maybe, four times as much on a Croatian international and he hasn’t set the heather on fire.

I’d go one more bid with a take it or leave option.
You’d seldom bid for anything at your top offer.
