Barry Ferguson made his debut under Walter at the end of the 96-97 season. He then made 11 appearances under him in the 97-98 season.
Yes I know that but he didn’t have the same confidence in him as advocaat did, advocaat seen something in Fergie which Walter didn’t, and immediately wanted to make him captain and build the team around him......Walter had him in and out of the team from memory but without any long runs, though I could be wrong
 
On the flip side Walter played Gattuso all season, Dick took one look at him and deemed him not good enough. A few years later he was winning the champions league with AC Milan.
