Rangers to receive only half of their ticket allocation for Scottish Cup tie at Pittodrie

RANGERS supporters are set to receive just half of the 20% share that the SFA rules say all away sides are entitled to for next month’s William Hill Scottish Cup quarter final tie against Aberdeen – because of safety certificate regulations over segregation at Pittodrie.
Steven Gerrard’s side booked their visit to the North East in the last eight with a controversial 5-0 victory against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night, but while SFA rules oblige visiting clubs in Scottish Cup matches to one fifth of all available seats, with an even split of gate receipts, the Ibrox side will be provided with just 2,000 tickets out of a capacity of 20,866.
The crux of the matter is a security fence which was removed four years ago, back when Aberdeen decided to cut away capacity in league matches from 4000 to 2000.
While a modern stadium would allow for more flexibility in segregation arrangements, the old-school design at Pittodrie leaves little room for flexibility, particularly in what has the potential to be a powderkeg match.
The first Scottish Cup home meeting with either Celtic or Rangers since then, discussions with Police Scotland and the length of time to alter the safety certificate alone means that the Dons have been left with no choice but to inform the Ibrox side that they are unable to provide travelling fans with 20% of tickets and proceed with the sale of home areas.
“The rules say that the visiting team are entitled to up to 20% except if the safety certificate doesn’t allow it – and it doesn’t,” said a club source. “Once we move to a modern stadium it will be different. But to change the safety certificate takes a good matter of weeks to go through the licensing board, so we have informed everyone that Rangers will only be getting 2,000 tickets.”
It is unclear whether Rangers have any rights of appeal to the SFA on the matter but Aberdeen are adamant that no other solution exists.

This is why I always say to people who don’t want the broomloan front safe standing because “ what if we draw someone at home in the cup we need to give them 20%” .

No we don’t . Health and safety first .

From now on all away fans get the away section . Whether it’s europe , Scottish cup , whatever . That’s whats safe and that’s where we put them .

I have emailed the FLO about this saying I hope the club are fighting it, would urge others to do the same.

More fans could give us a better chance of winning, given how long we’ve waited for silverware it’s something we shouldn’t just meekly accept.

If they really can’t then the fixture should be moved to a neutral ground or they forfeit all the gate receipts to us

Yep seen it on Wednesday too killie fans trying to break the stewards line and goad our fans into a reaction which is the standard then we get the blame. If we can't be allowed the max amount due to safety concerns then the next time at Ibrox we should express the same concerns and keep them in their corner just like the poets.

It's time for Rangers to start exerting their considerable strength; we have the biggest, most loyal fanbase in Scotland, a fan base which is pissed off at us continually being treated differently. Aberdeen took the cnut with the League Cup Semi allocation, this is an opportunity to show that we won't rolll over.

Stand up Rangers and we'll stand beside you, shoulder to shoulder!

“Once we move to a modern stadium”
Didn’t realise they had developed humour that far north. Aside from that it looked to me Kilmarnock’s allocated area was bigger than usual the other night so is it only some clubs that obey the rules. Would’ve been very interesting to see what we would’ve received for the piggery had we drawn them.

The amount of times I've been moved out of my seat for visiting fans is unreal. Happened every time the mentally challengeds visited, Dundee Utd in the cup a few years ago, most European games and again for Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Are we the only club that facilitates other clubs 'right' to a bigger allocation?

Work it out Sheep.

If we don't get allocation I would hope Rangers keep this in the memory bank for future years in relation to ties at Ibrox.

Rangers absolutely need to contest this and look at alternatives such as Aberdeen having to move all fans from that stand to alternative areas if they can’t guarantee the segregation would be safe.

My prediction is rangers will do nothing

@Greg Marshall do the club have any plans to contest this as the statement yesterday suggested not and had we been able to take our full allocation it would massively benefit the players

Everything was decided before the outcome of the Kilmarnock replay since Aberdeen were selling tickets from Wednesday morning

If we wanted to contest we would have when the details were finalised

Still think other factors - police made this decision

Would you not agree we would have left ourselves looking pretty foolish to be seen to contest the allocation for a match we might not have been involved in?

Also, if the police were behind this, why not come out and say it? Aberdeen haven’t had to play that card as we have just gone ahead and accepted it

Police Scotland got involved in Europe this season for the group stages very rare do clubs from europe get more than the corner

Ayr United were rejected a bigger allocation this season

So maybe things are changing a little?

If you are talking about Dundee United Semi-final then it wasn't a Rangers home game, yes played at Ibrox but deemed neutral for the game that is the only time they have a big allocation at Ibrox

Just remember if the game had been at Ibrox they would have been entitled to ask for 20% (10,000) doubt we would have been willing or the support happy to give them that

Not good enough the name of sporting integrity is at stake here.

If the sheep don't sell out but we could have surely they must compensate us.

Maybe we did It wouldn't matter if we didn't get through as discussions still had to place and clearly they did under the rules once the draw had been done last Monday night

Very rare that they would confirm it was a police decision but their input always happens

I was told yesterday that the issue Rangers have with insisting on this is if there happens to be a replay. We have 47000 odd season ticket holders and if the sheep insist on 20% of Ibrox we would need to give them 10000. We all know they wont sell that buy they could insist they are laid away to be sold to Aberdeen fans. The issue them becomes what do you tell 7000 Rangers season ticket holders that they cant come to the game

Well said.

We should also consider trying to get the tie switched to Ibrox, since Aberdeen's ground cant comply with the rules of the competition. We know how our SFA 'colleagues' are such sticklers for the rules. $porting In€grity and all that.

1st of all no club would get 10000 ticket hasn't happen before and won't in the future outhwith celtic Hibs are the only team, in 2006 to ask for a large allocation and received the Broomloan, Aberdeen could ask for that but any replay allocation will be decided at the original meeting highly unlikely they would offer it

As for having 46k STH not everyone would pay for an extra game hasn't happen before so again it wouldn't be any issue

You do know season tickets don't include cup games?
