Exactly right, Hillheadbear!

I have been thinking the same since the transfer window opened.

I know it looks like Veerman is out our reach financially and we seem to looking elsewhere but we are in desperate need of that creative playmaker who can unlock defences and utilise the pace we have.
The player from Red star would help

lol, tried to buy the ppv tonight... signed up as new subscriber at 7pm... just got my activation email to complete the process two minutes ago. Brilliant.

Credit due to the 10 for taking a slender lead to Armenia.
As a 90 minutes that was horrific against let's face it a pub team
Arfield is done at this level although he only tugged a shirt back once.
It's ferry across the Mersey for Lundstram unfit lazy slow & a liability as shown tonight.
We should have enough over 2 legs but christ we need inspiration against the dark side.

Lundstram is definitely the new whipping boy on here and admittedly he hasn’t helped himself with some poor displays since his arrival, but he’s a player we appear to have been interested in for quite a while so clearly Gerrard, Wilson and Beale feel he has attributes that fit in with our style of play.

Remember we all had Barisic written off as a complete dud after his first season while many felt Davis looked past it after his first few games back at the club.

I’ll give Lundstram a little bit longer before writing him off completely.
Nope. Sorry I've seen him numerous times now. A Grezda style signing for me.

Not a great start but it’s still early days with Lundstram.
What did concern me though was his attitude even before he got sent off.
On at least 2 different occasions after some scrappy periods of play he should have come away with possession in the middle of the park.
He didn’t look interested. Almost looked scunnered.

Hagi MOTM

Lundstram finished here. Absolutely deplorable performance and never a Rangers player. Try get rid of we can. Dire

Still need another midfielder
I don’t care about all the “FFS writing him off this early in the season”. For me he’s the classic answer to a question nobody asked.

Can’t see a thing he offers that we needed, looks lazy, disinterested, lost and headless. Then gets himself stupidly sent off like some two-Bob Sunday league fckwit.

I don’t want to see him in a Rangers jersey again already - and I’m normally quite patient with these things. The guy reeks roaster.

Lundstram will get the majority of the criticism but Ryan Kent needs to take a serious look at himself. So far he hasn’t turned in one decent performance

From where I was sat looking down our right in the first half neither hagi nor Kent were anywhere near an opposition player making it easy for Alashkert to move the ball out With simple passes to free men. Gouldson had a brain fart at one point and nearly let them in. A better team would have murdered Us.

Lundstrom again on the edge of the box….tav makes the run in the box behind the defender and he knocks it out on the wing. Has he watched us or been told how we play?

We really lacked the basics tonight but that is where Bassey excelled.

Just don't say anything negative about Tav and you might get away with this post once the young team see it! :)

your first point, “ simple passes to free men “, that’s the Malmö game and the Dee Utd game. Allowing one twos around our midfield.
when I voted, hagi was in front. How bassey isn’t miles ahead is amazing.

we played better without him. I said previous that after the Slavia game we needed pace in our midfield, Lundstram is the absolute opposite of that and he doesnt look good at all.

Love Davis but he and Lundstram together slow the game down too much

Really? Your comparison suggests your at it.
He’s absolutely right. They looked like a mid-table SPFL side. They were abject shite and even with us playing some of the worst football we’ve played under SG they never looked like laying a glove on us.

Anyone trying to pretend they are anything other than the kind of pish we should be cruising past is kidding themselves on.

McGregor - couple of bizarre charges out when not needed but had nothing to do, wasted time brilliantly

Tav - ok but not up to his level
Goldson - slightly better than Malmo but still a couple of heart in mouth moments
Helander - largely strolled it
Bassey - immense

Davis - v good
Lundstrum - not fit, not taking the right attitude into games, awful
Aribo - took a while to get going and dead on his feet after 70 mins, clearly not 100% fit

Kent - give him the benefit of the doubt and say the early knock stopped him performing, two good chances spurned by leaning back at a shot, didn't work enough otherwise
Morelos - missed a sitter then delivered the goods again, love the wee man
Hagi - battered all night and kept giving his all, has to start as much as possible

subs

Wright - brilliant, caused havoc & was exactly what we needed
Arfield - combat attributes were helpful at the death
Kelly - no time to show
Itten - did really well to hold it up and make things happen

ref:

disgraceful
the only thing he got right was the Lundstrum cards

the elbow on Hagi was a straight red
their no 7 did 3 fouls in 1 phase, was warned, did another no booking, finally booked for a bad foul then got away with a pull - far worse than Lundstrum
the assault off the ball was a red
their no 2 pulls our player back, no card yet lundstrum and arfield are correctly carded

the Govan linesman was awful too - continually giving marginal balls out whilst standing 2 yards off the touchline

They’re not even as good as that. They were absolutely hopeless.

We seldom pressurised the man on the ball, so they had time to knock it about. They look like a team who love possession but aim to steal a goal. With the correct attitude and application, we'll win over there.

I agree, it looks to me that he realises he is nowhere near the level of those around him.

Voted Wright because I thought he changed the game for us

Bassey a close 2nd and honourable mention to hagi. Rest were below par

You don't think that's a bit harsh on the defence? I thought the back line played well, Hagi was my MOTM, with Bassey a close second (I didn't think his delivery was as good as Friday). Wright worked really hard and had a couple of nice moments, Davis had a much better 2nd half and Aribo was really good until he left for a well-earned rest. Lundstram was awful, Davis' 1st half performance was terrible, Kent was poor and, ironically, Alfredo was shocking (almost) all game, but Buffalo is as Bufallo does!

Possibly harsh, they weren't really tested, the number 20 actually gave us a few moments first half I thought but defensively they were fine, thought the distribution at the back was poor though, the start of our attacks and was slow and predictable, I'm not bashing tav or goldson or that like others.

I think bassey hagi and Wright were only ones who gave us 100%. The second half performances were much better from the team all round but think the aforementioned three were decent all night

Kinda surprised hagi has so many votes. It seemed like he got pushed back deeper half way through and didn't seen to do as much

Agree with bassey though he was phenomenal I'd bet at least 85% of our attacking plays involved him. Seemed like whenever it was at the other side of the pitch it'd just be a passing game getting nowhere.

Just back in.
I think this is a fair and accurate summation of the game.
Bassey was outstanding for me Hagi was like a man possesed.
This team won't score against us.
Like ever.

Loved watching Hagi tonight. With that bit between his teeth he is huge for us. He is a must to start against the Beggars for me.

Well...we won.

Hagi clear MoM. Bassey played very well, as did Wright. Pass marks for Aribo, Helander and Goldson. Morelos got the important goal, but wasn't great. Davis I think struggled in a midfield with not a lot of help. Tav was ok, but unless he's brilliant every game some on here feel that isn't good enough.

Kent didn't play great, but it happens. Feel the overreaction on here is just that. Lundstram needs a spell away from the team. He just hasn't settled into the team at all.

A good win considering we had 10 for 45. Unfortunate that we now have to go over there with the tie still in the balance, but that's Europe. Kamara being back will be huge.

I really hope Gerrard does not get tunnel vision with Lundsrtam trying to shoehorn him in, unless he has skills as yet unshown he is like a square peg in a round hole and imo completely the wrong type of player for our system, i know he is only a few games in but it just looks and feels wrong.

Anyone called Lundstram a Rolls Royce of a player yet ? Think I just need that one for bingo.

The only positive from last night was no matter how poor we are, they were awful and shouldn't really worry us next week.

Need to try and build some momentum against Ross County now.

Poor performance and it doesnt really matter how bad the opposition are, youve still got to make something happen.

They wont cause too many, if any, problems in the 2nd leg but of course at 1-0 its not going to be risked and now Rangers face 3 tricky, important games crammed together with unwelcome travel involved to make matters worse.

Not an ideal week really but we seem to be specialising in those at the moment.

I’m delighted with a win. A narrow win, but a win with 10 men. The team aren’t up to full gear yet. It is a worry even though it’s early season. I suspect the problem is midfield. Kamara not playing in the early European games has been a big loss for us. Davis is great but there is now too much pressure on him, given that Lundstram hasn’t bedded in yet. And that middle vacum causes nervousness in the rest of the team. I have said for 3 years we need a playmaker. We probably don’t have the finances, hence the compromise with Lundstram. Aribo must be in front three. That leaves Hagi. He’s good but not the playmaker we need. Suggestions?

The less said about that performance last night the better. Players no where near ready for this season, a lack of intensity and desire. Sloppy, slack, pedestrian and predictable. We are barely creating any thing.

1-0 against a pub team from Armenia is far from good enough and if we don’t buck up our ideas, it will be more dropped points at the weekend.

Let’s hope Bacuna is a superstar because our midfield is garbage.

I agree with you completely, didn’t word it well though. Whether it’s sitting off waiting til the opposition cross the halfway or when we have the ball passing it around between the centre-halves, fullbacks, Davis and McGregor for an eternity before looking for a forward pass, the lack of urgency just gives the opposition the time to get themselves
All good mate. Despite the win, wasn't a good night and I think we're all getting tired of it already. Onwards and upwards though bud. WATP.

Poor performance, lifted in the 2nd half with the introduction of Scott Wright.

Anybody still thinking that the midfield is good enough is kidding themselves. We were without Glen Kamara last night and we were unable to really stamp our authority on midfield. A couple of mistakes near our own box could have cost us an Alashkert shot on goal. Up front we saw effort from Morelos but terrible service. Ryan Kent is a shadow of what we've seen from him.

How many wake-up calls are we going to need? How many times can we just write it off as a blip at the start of the season and kid ourselves on that it'll all just suddenly come good? Put Kamara and Roofe into that side and it immediately becomes better. Does it become enough better?

Significant improvement needed from a number of players.

They didn't have a shot on goal and never looked like it. I'm very comfortable we go through. Lundstrom needs to form lots of time getting fit. Kamara and roofe are essential moving forward. A good response but we are still miles below par .
Yeah I'm confident we'll get through , they never caused us ANY problems whatsoever, if we can just up our game a bit like we did in the 2nd half I'm sure we will go through.
We should have won 3-0 , the two chances from Alfie and Goldson headers should have been goals.
