Rennes After Morelos

Deadlocked with Serhou Guirassy, Stade Rennais is digging another offensive track. According to our information, Florian Maurice is eyeing Alfredo Morelos, the formidable Colombian striker of the Glasgow Rangers.

The very disappointing departing Jordan Siebatcheu, Adrien Hunou and Mbaye Niang not being specialists in the position of number 9, the Stade Rennais is active to find a high-level striker capable of donning goals like pearls. In recent weeks, the Breton club has established very close contacts with Sehrou Guirassy, the French striker from Amiens. An offer of € 12 million was even put on the table for the Rennes management to recruit Guirassy.
But the former Auxerrois, who has scored 9 goals in 23 games, is expensive, for the moment too expensive for Rennes. According to our information, the Picard club is claiming more than € 20 million to release its attacker. Therefore, Florian Maurice activates other tracks. Among them is the one leading to Alfredo Morelos. The 24-year-old Colombian international striker (7 caps - 1 goal), one of the best strikers in the Scottish League, has scored 52 goals in 106 games in all competitions since joining the club three seasons ago.
Glasgow Rangers claim € 15m
Arrived in Europe at the HJK Helsinki in 2016, Morelos is a complete attacker, very nervous, able to often lose his nerves (6 red cards since his arrival in Scotland) who has a very keen sense of goal. Despite his cardboard problems, the left-hander is very appreciated by Steven Gerrard who blocked his departure several times, starting with Nice who was very close to recruiting him in winter 2019. But this summer the deal is different, the Glasgow Rangers have made reason and agreed to let him go against a check for fifteen million euros.
Proof of its probable future departure, the Scottish club is even looking for its successor. Aware of this new situation, Rennes has reactivated this track. You should know that Alfredo Morelos has been followed for two years by the Breton club but also by Saint-Etienne and OM . Two clubs that have since dropped the case. The club coached by Julien Stephan is seduced by the player and would be ready to spend the second with an offer approaching the 15 M € claimed by the Glasgow Rangers. But Rennes will face competition from Premier League clubs, which are also very interested in the Colombian striker. To be continued.

They had a good season and will be in the Champions League qualifiers. It would still be a surprise to see Alfie moving there, though - I suspect Gerrard may tell him to hold on for a move elsewhere.

Alternatively, €15million would be useful for us rebuilding the squad.

Cannot see him going to Rennes but I think given his end of season form and Covid people might need to adjust the amount they think we’d probably accept. I’m sure if £15m comes at the club they will be tempted and add in a heavy sell on clause.

This is the sort of move that will test his commitment to the club. It really isn’t a glamour move by any stretch of the imagination. Yes he might play in a better league, but European football is far from guaranteed on a regular basis. Tricky one all round, as I can’t see Rennes paying silly money for him either, so it will test the board as well.

It is at best a sideways move and like most transfers will come down to pay

If Amiens want 20m for Guirassy then Morelos is worth 25m. 12m offer from Rennes for Guirassy was more than acceptable.

Morelos to Rennes would be a step down imo

£20m and I'd be talking to them. Not ideal to sell Alfie but the money could well keep the club on an even keel at the moment and still provide funds for another striker.
Oh, and a belter of a sell-on clause included.

Champions League football and a much better league overall ? I don't see how that's shit.

Champions league qualifiers, no guarantee of "real" champions league football and in terms of the club itself a significant downgrade in terms of size and stature, although I'll give you the better league point-even relegation zone teams in ligue 1 would finish 3rd/4th in the spfl.

Poor move for him and far too low an offer, highly doubtful it’s happening.

His next move needs to be right and a club like Rennes or the French league out with a couple of clubs isnt it.

I fear many fans will be disappointed when he goes if it’s this year. The effect covid has on fees is being underestimated
I agree but €15m still feels low. Close to €20m and I think we will deal regardless of what folk think his value is. I also think he’d go to a big 5 league regardless of club.
