Rory Wilson

Change families' lives?

So the young boy gets a lucrative move and removes his poor downtrodden parents from biting poverty.

A bit of a romantic, nostalgic notion. If my kids hit the jack pot, they do it for themselves. In fact, they all still get a third of my worldly wealth when I go.
So the big money should clear your death duties…….

Wish I had a few quid for every wonderkid from Scotland touted as the next big thing.
I could pay my energy bill.
But in saying that, we should.look at a partnership with a lower league or even conference league club to loan out these young lads and develop them for the next level in the man's game

The change in rules after Brexit means that Enlgish teams will be looking up here more so we'll see more of this in future unfortunately.

Won’t lose sleep over it at this stage. Very little of these wonderkid strikers go on to be top strikers.
Especially if they are Scottish it seems.
A Scottish striker seems to be something this country can't produce. Maybe this kid is different?

But boys will have a tougher time to get anywhere near first team .

They will but after u18s they have another 2 leagues to continue their progression in with u23s and EPL2 as well as likely to play in the English version of the Petrofac Cup.

If I was a 16 year old kid being offered 10grand a week or whatever it is. I would take a 3 or 4 year contract then come back to the famous and still have a fantastic career up here. Probably.

16, leaving school and someone offers you basically an apprentice job with a salary of X, and someone else offers you 8X, it's hard to say 'no, I'd rather have the X'.

It happens. We've done it to other clubs and we are trying to sign so.e striker from Millwall under similar circumstances.

Our record of giving youngsters a real chance is pretty poor. Nothing to do with us having to win every game as teams like Liverpool can do it. Yep we will give two or three an appearance in a pre-season friendly, the first round of the cups and last game of the season.

On average we must be less than 1 a season where it is anything other than a token appearance.

At what point do these agents advising the players get chased?

Specifically 'CAA Base'. Seems they specialise in hoovering up the brightest and best young Scottish talent and then before you know it they're signing deals to random Premier League clubs.

Clubs like us, and others in Scotland lose their young stars for a pittance, whilst this agency will be making a killing on signing on fees for the players, who cares if it's the right move for them since they're getting paid anyway.

Heard from a great source his family tried to talk him into staying,They were thinking he was just a bit young but he was determined to go to an EPL club.

Base are a really well run agency, took a decision 3 or 4 years ago to try and take on the best young Scottish talent. Ultimately they are moving players on for life changing money. Wilson signed a 6 figure deal with Adidas last week. That’s more than the SPL give each club from Cinch..

What's baffling is going to Villa.

I'd understand if it was a top team but Villa is just soso. Especially when they now have a manager who is poor with giving youth a chance.

Best of luck to him.

I’m sure Chelsea bought Gilmours mum and dad a house. Could be wrong but it does happen. So yes familys life.

I really don’t get why any kid would want to leave Auchenhowie these days but £££ talks especially if you’re not from the Rangers way of life. The future looks fantastic under Gio and his management team.
it creates a space for another talented lad to fill and the way the pathway to the first team is lighting up we will hopefully be pinching more Bassey‘s along the way.
I’ve a sneaky suspicion we’ve got a crop of 5/6 players seeing their way from the academy to the first team squad over the next 2/3 years.

I hope you are right, that our future looks good.

However Wilson will have been sold the same on his visits to Villa. Villa will hope the Gerrard effect reinvigorates them over the next season or two.

However we cannot overlook the attraction of just being part of EPL, the biggest league on the planet. At youth level these clubs have set ups that shame those on offer up here. Add in the money and it isn't too difficult to see the attraction.

In another thread I likened it to what happened with Dutch and Belgian players who got pillaged by the EPL clubs few years back, a lot of their careers stalled and they had to move back to their home countries to restart and come again. Thankfully for a lot of them after returning home their careers back on track and have gone from strength to strength. I think we will see something similar happening to our Scottish players in the coming years.

Good luck to them getting paid stupid money to sit in an academy, but I think history has shown that England is the wrong place to move to if you want to continue your development as player.

"Off to the next level" he said, ffs you have not even reached the first one yet.
I did watch a few youth games on RTV and tbh he never showed much, Ure looks by far the better player.
It is the way of the world now £s over prizes.
Life is short, I don't blame anyone for trying to better what they've got, but I did have a chuckle when I read his comments like "off to the next level" - he's 16 & playing for the Rangers youth team for pity's sake, not playing for our first team & moving to Man City!

We can't compete when kids get EPL stars in their eyes, Gilmour was the same & on the "A day with Billy Gilmour" piece, the whole Chelsea set up he was going into was incredible.

Rangers, indeed Scotland, hasn’t produced a top class goal scorer in donkey’s years. Eventually one will come along…maybe this kid is the one, maybe he isn’t. We won’t know for about another 4 years. It’s a shame when anyone thinks the grass is greener down south but good luck to the lad.

Just picked up this disappointing news.

Scots wonderkid Rory Wilson confirms Rangers exit as Aston Villa favourites to sign 49-goal striker

In all honesty, cheerio, good luck and close the door on the way out.
Don’t bother looking back.

Anyone in their position would do the same here , let's not kid ourselves on that the money available down there changes families life's
It’s a line that bothers me greatly.
The only reason a kid should be doing a Gilmour or a Wilson is for their benefit.
Their development as a player or their long term financial security.
Not to change their family’s life.
That’s not their job.
I’d be absolutely embarrassed, beyond embarrassed, if the house I lived in was bought for me by my kid.

Very very difficult for strikers to break through and make it for us - they simply don't have the luxury of time. Good luck to him and we'll get handsome compensation I'm sure for a largely untested player.
On that one, I’d like to see an extension of the development fee to include a percentage of the first sell on fee.
Yes, that’ll include what we pass on for Bassey and Aribo.

Can’t blame the kid for trying to maximise his potential financially.Just the basic economics of the system unfortunately. We as a club have used the system to our benefit for years,so we can’t complain when others do it.

In fairness, that's their prerogative and nobody else's. If at 16/17 a player could earn between £250k - £520k per year and secure their long term future and possibly make sure their parents are set in their retirement, I don't blame them for prioritising that over "player development." They could turn down the money and stay at their current club and find their development stalls in part due to being sent to the wrong clubs on loan, injuries etc and end up out of the game within four years.

think it's fair to say history has shown that Rangers isn't a place to be continue your development as a player.

Yes, but that’s their career.
It’s not their job to prioritise their patents welfare.

No it's not, but given the choice at 16 to massively help your parents financially, most kids would jump at that chance.
Just discussed the question with my wife.
She said she wouldn’t want her sixteen year old going anywhere other than straight home to her!

I know, I know, I know we also reap the similar benefit of signing promising youngsters from other clubs but I don’t care much about them and only want Rangers to retain the best of their own and also attract the best from others! Selfish git maybe but that’s the way things are concerning football loyalties.
P.S. well done to King and Lowry for doing the right thing.

Meant to add that I get that point but would not want it to be a factor in his career decision making.
As I posted earlier, I’d be embarrassed to agree with this.
