Rumoured leaked SPFL reorganisation document

An increase to 46 teams. According to the SPFL Articles of Association such a change in numbers in the league would require a Qualified Resolution at a General Meeting. In order to be accepted it would need 90% (11-1) approval from clubs in the Premiership, 75% (9-3) approval from clubs in the Championship and 75% (15-5) approval from the combined clubs in League 1 and League 2.

Bottom of Page 8 for rules on voting on Qualified Resolutions and Page 18 para 62.5 for confirmation that expansion of the league would require a Qualified Resolution.

that stuck out like a sore thumb

Well nowhere does the document mention that the Scum will be award the title.

However if this does come to be then Hearts will escape relegation. In fact the only losers in this re-organisation of the leagues would be Celtic if they are not awarded the title, therefore highly unlikely this would proceed unless they get their way.

Have no problem with this restructuring, although I would rather see the split be 7 - 7, rather that 8 - 6, think the 40 game season for top 8 teams is too many.

I'd suggest the author of said document doesn't know where Stenhousemuir play, given they put them in the Northern Section.

You know the geographical sections to reduce travel and increase derbies.

WATP

I'm all for reconstruction but not for the reasons they will pushing it through for.

Anyway, I don't like the setup proposed if it is genuine. Think it should be 14 teams, split half way through with top 6 and bottom 8, less games for top teams which helps with Europe and likely latter Scottish cup stages. Bottom teams get extra games over the season to make up for us not visiting them.

The rest stay the same with a couple of new teams added at the bottom. Keeps it simple, keeps even number of home and away games.

Could add in 2 auto relegated 2 promoted to add extra spice to those games with 1 up via play offs etc

To add, this is only to appease TV for 4 games between us, I'd rather bigger league and play each other twice only but that ain't going to happen.
Far better 40 games is way to many. Can you imagine how many games we would have to play if we had the same European run and got to both cup finals. Flogging the players to death.

The Spfl idea of a "solution" is anything which will keep all clubs happy besides us. That was always the case and I thought all of us could see that, no?

I don’t know why there’s such a clamour to have some convoluted system in place that avoids splits and re-arranging positions.

Just go for an 20 team league, play 38 league matches. Done.

Have a second tier of 24 teams, will give them all extra games every season to raise some additional income. Means every single team in Scotland is one promotion away from getting 2 games a season at home to the Old Firm.

I really cannot see any argument against it. If the TV companies veto it due to 2 old firms less, %^*& them, and we’ll do our own TV deals. They pay us a relative pittance anyway.

It's not just 2 old firm games less.

It's getting rid of 2 games v celtic, Aberdeen, hearts, hibs and any other half decent sized side and replacing them with games v Morton, queen of the south and Arbroath and other dismal clubs.

What a horrendous idea.

“Hey guys, you know how we are struggling to get 38 games completed, I think I’ve found a solution.”

The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

You're right, we should continue with the same old broken formula, just so we can play some other diddy clubs an extra couple of times.

Jesus. The small nation mindset that you have is exactly why Scottish football is going to be left to fester, while the rest of the footballing world moves even further away from us.

Reconstruction with a 14 team top league has been discussed for year. It eliminates the possibility playing the same team away from home 3 times.

However I'd file this under pish at this time. It's too late in the day to change league set ups for next season.

Stupid idea they were struggling to fit in our game in hand in a 38 game league season there's one reason and one reason only why this reconstruction is being considered and you don't have to be a psychic to work it out

Sorry, I still hate the split! Playing the same teams 4 times in the league and possibly another couple of cup games is ridiculous. We probably won´t have sponsors to pander to when football starts s why not get back to a real league table.

It’s 100% fake because there will be a standardised presentation template that all official docs will be created by.

The only thing I like about this is the North/South divide further down.

Just make it three tiers of 16, have a 30 game domestic season.

Have all 48 league teams in the group stages of the league cup, 8 groups of 6, 5 games, top two go through to the last 16. Run it a little later in the season.

Keep everything else the same.

It is not fucking difficult.

This. 16 teams is the most simple way of doing it. Cuts out 8 games but look at the number of games we played in December and we still have a game in hand. Would ease the pressure on fitting in postponed and replayed games

The problem with any restructure is that it'll need to be worked to include 4 Rangers v Celtic matches for TV. No matter what way they dress it up it'll still be the same old shite.

Especially if they are going to persist with this winter break

It's not small nation mindset

We should only have a small league with out biggest clubs in it.

Why on earth would we want a league filled with clubs that only get 1500 fans at their games?

It’s completely a small nation mindset.

We’ve already got a league filled with clubs who only get 1500 fans, so that’s a moot point.

With a 20 team setup, rather than going to Hamilton, Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren and Livingston twice in a season, each of those is replaced with a team of equal standing. It offers variety, keeps the league feeling fresh and give a massively competitive nature to the second tier where any team is only one promotion away from the top flight.

It would be better for Scottish football and long term would make our game far more appealing. It works for the Spanish, Italians, English, French, Brazilians, Argentinians, Dutch, Germans, all of which have their fair share of diddy teams, relatively speaking.

We know what doesn’t work, we’ve tried it now for near enough 20 years. Time to try a new formula that is tried and tested in all the significant leagues in the world.

So they restructured the league to stop Aberdeen being relegated once before. They then brought in rules about teams having 10,000 seats saving Aberdeen again and also Motherwell on a technicality. These same rules are then abandoned a few years later when it suits them and now they want to hand the yahoos a title but not relegate Hearts?

Honestly if Rangers let them away with this then the club might as well just fly a white flag. What's to stop this lot changing the rules a year from now to hinder a possible title win if we are ahead in the league?

We agree to this and we'll never be allowed to win the league ever again as the goalposts will be moved constantly.

Christ, what is this perennial obsession with a split?

Just have everyone play each other once at home and once away. No splits, no gimmicks.

They really are squirming and wriggling, desperate to give the tramps another tainted league.

This system has a few holes in it. Who will be regarded as the winners of the championship as the top two teams at the time of the split will be shoved into Premier League 2 to make up the numbers leaving the 3rd and possibly 4th team in the championship with a run in to be winners of the championship. Then there would be a play off between the top two in the championship and the 2nd and 3rd bottom of Premier League 2 for the promotion places. This could conceivably see the two that were brought up at the split to make up the numbers being beaten in the playoffs and ending up back in the Championship after leading that division and possibly going on to win it. In other words ending a season that looked good before the split with nothing and back where they started.

At the split how would the points gained in the first part of the season be used. In Premier League 1 it wouldn't be a problem as the teams would keep the points they have just as we do at the moment but how would that work in Premier League 2 where there will be two new teams admitted who didn't gain any points in that league and will have played only 22 games instead of the 26 by the other teams. They might also have more points than the other teams as they will have been playing against lesser opposition in the Championship.

This is only a quick look at this system and there are probably other problems that haven't been properly addressed by the creator of it. Basically it is a poorly thought out scheme to be able to award a certain team a trophy they haven't won and get others on side with no relegation and guaranteed promotion for a couple of others.

While the expansion of the league is welcomed, it is glaringly obvious this is being done to hand them another tainted title.

Why wasn’t this even mentioned before the current crisis?

If there is league reconstruction it will be seen by liewell first along with the 2019/20 winners cheque and a letter saying “is this ok peter?” Yours sincerely Mr Maxwell and Mr Doncaster.
