Sam Lammers

People aren't smart:
Look at the threads tonight

Jon Lundstram - Possibly MOTM and Europa legend. Only made a couple of "wee mistakes ", (both of which could have cost us goals.)

Sam Lammers - Only injected for 15 minutes - Won us multiple corners that caused them issues, including the one that led to the goal, from his header back into the 6 yard box.

Our support grab onto a player (positive and negative) and they are not letting go of those opinions.

Didn't see enough to be eating humble pie tbh. Won a header back across goal, fouled 3 or 4 times and lost the ball attempting a swivel down outside, recovered to win a free kick. Think that was it for the 15mins.

Much better from him tonight when he came on, hopefully it's the start of him coming into some form now.

Thought he was good tonight, can see a player in there.

Just needs a goal. He looks really depressed when he misses chances.

His touch and technique are going to be an asset to us if we can use him in the right way.
From what I've seen of him, he isn't a goalscorer. Maybe an attacking playmaker might be the best way to describe him. But he isn't the diddy that he is being made out to be. Far too early to really judge him.

He’s got ability.

Folk bang on about the fee as though for £3.5m he should be world class - that’s what we spent on Lafferty when we bought him out the English Championship 15 years ago ffs.

My gripe is more with the lack of thought that went into signing him. A chunk of our budget on another forward, similar in style to others we’ve got, and no real plan for how he fits.

Kirk broadfoot had ability too

That’s the problem for me. We’ve bought a striker to try and convert him into a number 10 when we already had Cantwell and Hagi. It’s a weird experiment to take on when our budget is tight.

I’ve slated him on this thread. Didn’t see anything at all from him until tonight…

He was brilliant when he came on. Worked his arse off and showed quality when he had the ball. Like the team a step in the right direction.

I thought he looked good behind a front 2!

Which created an issue! Cantwell, Lawrence, Lammers!

As well all see they are not wingers

Lammers is a player where his bad games will be really bad.

He will however, have good games. I thought he did well when he came on

He's had a torrid time since arriving here however the guy had a very positive impact on the game when he was introduced.

Let's park it there for tonight, enjoy the win and hope big Sam goes from strength to strength from here on in.

Sound good? ...ok then.

A step in the right direction for the big man tonight. Still a long way to go for him and I hope he proves us doubters wrong.

If the ball hadn't sclaffed off his shin and go out for a corner rather than into the back of the net against celtc we'd all be raving about him...talk about small margins making or breaking you?
The guy is obviously a talented and intelligent footballer and all he needs is wee bit of rub of the green and I really think he'll prove to be a good acquisition.

Well Cantwell and Lawrence were both wingers before they signed for us.

No idea where Lammers played before signing genuinely never remembered him but after tonight he's shown he has what it takes.

Now I'm not meaning to overreact but he's probably in contention for the Ballon d'or if we get him doing that for 90 mins a season.

At least he's a good option to bring on for the last 15 in Dublin as we close the game out.

He definitely has the ability and is very tidy on the ball. I think he will suit the European nights when you need to make use of the ball in the opposition half when it doesn't happen too often. I would just love him to have belief in a shot. Just seems that he fears the final shot for some reason.

I'm still of the opinion he's not good enough.

Also him and Dessers can't be on the pitch at the same time. They took up the same area of the pitch constantly and got in each others way.

I'm not convinced either, but with Danilo out and Dessers in the bad books, now's the time to give him a decent run of games to try and find his groove. You can see he's desperate to do well. I was under the impression he was one of these tall, stylish Dutch players, but he seems to have a bit of a bull-in-a-china-shop approach to his game.

Some Trumpets looking very daft in the comments
The only trumpet is the person (or people) feeling smug because he's had one half decent sub performance in amongst a load of poor ones. Once he's had a dozen or so minimum 6/10 performances on the trot, then there can be a bit of humble pie served. As it stands he's got it all to prove and still isn't a starter for me.

Played correctly he would be an asset as he has good technique and composure on the ball, but in amongst Beale's signings he is not the only one where you think it was a scattergun approach to recruitment this summer.

Combine that with Beale's clear shortcomings as a manager who can implement tactics and play attractive football then it's a mystery why he signed so many forwards without strengthening the defence.
