Scott Wright in training

He must be some player in training because that's 4 managers now who continue to give him chances to start games. Despite the fact his good performances since signing have been so rare.

Is he just a player who cant handle the pressure of performing infront of a big crowd? He isn't the first or last if so.

I just can't understand how someone managers clearly take to, gets chances so regularly but never takes them.

What do we think the reason is? Does he fall into similar category to Brandon Barker? By all accounts excellent in training but can't reproduce on the park when it matters.

He's been at the club a long time now and I'm still at a loss as to how he has managed to last so long. This isnt based purely on Saturday where he was very poor but the majority of his time with us. Bar the odd good moment at Hampden you're pushed to find good performances in 3 years. Yet managers continue to rate him highly enough to have him in and around.

You wonder how many more windows he can possibly survive without improvement.

He's still there because there aren't many takers for him. He's on a long contract and any team he's been linked with has fallen through. I can't blame him for turning down that team in Turkey (if that is what happened) to stay at Rangers. It'll never get better for him than it is now. The lack of other options and the need to rotate the team is the main reason he gets game time.

Clearly has a cracking attitude, always puts in the effort in training. Doesn't cause friction with other players and is available more often than not.

He can at least say he gave it his all, the talent just wasn't there. Not every player that plays for us can say the same.

Hel look back on his career when finished and relise how lucky hes been as a bang average footballer. Will be set for life probably massive pension etc.Was a great thing for him not leaving us at end of last season as hed have disappeared into obscurity like Brandon Barker and others pure lucked out.Offers nothing cant stand seeing his name in the team.

On Saturday he took a great cross field pass from Cortes splitting them open and rather than press forward and attack the goal he just stood there with the ball, waiting on Jamie Murphy getting back into position, THEN tries to beat Murphy and failed and ran the ball out of play.

Simply not good enough, even vs Ayr.

Arfield had said before he was one of the better players at training. Just like Barker, however then you’ve got players like Hazard who do %^*& all in training and play amazing on match day.

Wright is just an example of the horrid transfer policy we have had since we won 55. Paying generous wages to bang average (or worse) players.

Despite Kent, Morelos, McGregor and Helander all leaving we still ended up with a wage bill higher than the scum.

he’s a squad player on relatively low wages. When we signed him we hoped he would progress into a much better player and be able to sell him for a good fee. He’s not progressed imo, he hasn’t added anything to his game at all really but all that said he’s not a big problem. We don’t lose matches because of Scott Wright.

Tbf to him, he set up Kamaras goal v Leipzig, played in the final and has scored a Scottish Cup winning goal so I'm not sure it can be said he can't handle a crowd.

While we need to upgrade, he seems to just get it in the neck despite being a cheap punt that has done OK for us and actually contributed some big moments whilst being reasonably happy just to be a squad filler and come in when required. All squads need guys like this.

It is at the point where it would be more beneficial giving a youth player a game and it wouldn't make any difference. His minutes should be limited going forward as there is absolutely no end product there most of the time and there never really has been.

Got to say, I was delighted when he signed. Alas while he’s been here it’s looked like he’s one of those players where the jersey’s been too big for him.

He's played as a consequence of how erratic we have been in the transfer market.

Clement has at least been brave enough to look to our youth to find a way to marginalize his squad role further

He started a cup game where there was always going to be a few changes. He's hardly been a regular under Clement, far from it.

They were big moments for sure but the problem is that that's practically all he's done.

You'd think even by the law of averages that a winger playing for us as often as he does would get a few goals and assists but he contributes so little.

He plays the game like he's a youth player making their first appearances. Work hard but leave the big stuff to the senior players and just try and get through the match without doing anything daft

I think his main issue is that he’s poor when he has too much time to think. The two instances there were in the heat of the moment and had only one real option. He’s been decent in flashes and generally seems to be quite forward thinking occasionally and driving at teams.

But he’s also on the whole been pretty poor and I’d definitely be looking to either loan him out to another team in the league or preferably get rid completely. How long does he have left on his contract?

Yeah I get that mate. I just think he was bought as a squad filler for low money and he's probably done OK on that basis.

All squads need guys like that.

He is so poor and limited. Tends to completely drift out of games to the point you forget he is playing. As the OP says, I genuinely can't believe that 4 managers have given him multiple chances. Other than pace (which he never seems to use), he is on most levels a very poor player.

He obviously works hard and carries out the managers instructions, as best as he can. It’s not an accident that a lot of our managers used him in big games or brought him on when we needed to be tactically disciplined.

He’s not good to watch but I don’t really have any ill feeling towards him as he evidently tries his best. Just we should looking for better .

Definitely could do better than him but he seems to be professional and trusted by several managers to do a job. There’s been areas of the squad in more urgent need of care.

I would be surprised if he was here next season though.

Shouldn't survive past the summer but that also should have been the case in the last two years.

Won't even stand out at whatever diddy team he ends up at.

He’s here because we seem to give average players bigger deals than they’d get elsewhere.

A 4.5 year deal for a guy that was a squad player at Aberdeen.
4.5 years was madness. Same as Simpson and Ofoborh iirc. Literally nobody else was waving those length of deals around for these guys. Glad we now have a new approach under Koppen.

This is how I feel about it.

He's on a long term deal, no one is going to take him off our hands (at least no one that he's willing to go to) and he fills a place in the 'nation trained' spots in Europe. He's just a squad filler, the problem was giving him such a long deal, not that he's being used to manage to squad.

The same people who burst into tears on this forum whenever you criticise players (Goldson, Raskin, Dessers etc) seem to drop that policy when it's Scott Wright.

He's not good enough for where we are or want to be and will surely be moved on in the summer. It's hardly his fault he's not up to the standard.

Plenty of men, who have forgotten more about football than anyone on here will ever know, keep picking him.
