Leicester City paid a huge £9 million compensation fee to raid Celtic for Brendan Rodgers and his backroom team, the Daily Telegraph understands.

Rodgers was appointed as Leicester’s new manager last month and the Premier League club had to pay a significant cash sum to take him from Celtic during the season, dwarfing the £4m Everton agreed with Watford for Marco Silva.

Celtic inserted the figure into the four-year deal Rodgers signed as manager in April 2017, with the transfer fee for the Northern Irishman believed to be lower in the summer.

But after sacking Claude Puel, Leicester identified Rodgers as their No 1 target and plans to appoint him ahead of next season were brought forward.

With Rodgers also taking assistant manager Chris Davies, first-team coach Kolo Toure and head of performance Glen Driscoll to the King Power Stadium, the total cost of the deal for Leicester was £9m.

It has been said for a long time that Brenda was on an absolute fortune at Celtic, therefore it's no coincidence that they received that amount in compensation.

All it really goes to show is that these English clubs are awash with cash, which is why we should no longer accept low-ball offers should any of them come in for our players or manager in years to come.

Pocket change for Leicester, we need to take advantage of the insane amounts flying around in England too.

If anyone wants Morelos or Tav the bidding starts at £20m. Tired of seeing everyone apart from us benefit from the stupid money down there.

Does Rodgers and his backroom team not also have to be compensated for the remainder of their contracts at the unwashed ?

That is actually dreadful news tbh. That is a huge amount of cash + whatever manager replaces Rodgers will be on significantly less per week

Great. The Scottish justice system can do it's job & ensure this extra cash goes straight to the dozens, if not hundreds of victims of their sordid crimes.

He was on £2.5 million a year and had signed a 4 yeat contract so that seems about right. That's chump change to a team like Leicester

Couldn’t give two ducks about anything they do to be honest

Depends on their contracts, but in this case unlikely for Rodgers at least. Celtic didn’t ask him to leave, he asked to be released

A text-book example of managing the message. Their mhedia will laud Peter's financial wizardry, thick fans of them and us will lap it up and ours will greet about it and timposters will come on here and post about it.
It's cack but it works on the hard of thinking and the willing.

If the tranny had been our manager, we would have had to pay his flitting costs.

Those fu(kers are miles ahead of us on the resale of assets, been that way since that clown Bain was our CEO
Nonsense, we are better nowadays. £2.5m for Windass, Pena paid off. Bain also got big fees for GvB,Hutton and Ferguson. England is awash with money, and Leicester wanted him. They have downgraded in Lennon and the money will stay in the bank.

£4.2m last season, so as you say they would have to pay a considerable penalty.

The other £3 million is for the assistant, the coach and the other guy.

Which is perfectly feasible.

The amateur accounts on here, who shoot them down every month are usually way off the mark.

They took a bit of a gamble, paid big money in wages for him, it paid off, so they locked him in.

Like Dembele, it’s astute business.

I’ve read on here for the past two seasons that his wages have been extraordinarily high. Now when someone buys out that contract it’s not true. What one is it? :D Folk on here are better off concentrating on us rather than playing amateur spin doctor with regards to the mentally challengeds.

Even if they did they won't get to spend it. They will be keeping as much back as possible for compo claims and legal fees.
