Secret 5 way deal

That was done so the SPFL (basically the SPL under another name) could get their grubby wee hands on Rangers TV rights while we were down in the SFL.

They had blood lust when they kicked us out of the SPL but were still desperate for a slice of any potential TV income generated from our games being shown on on sky.

More staggering hypocrisy.
That's the way I seen it mate. Took cash from small clubs that would set them up for years. It was fucken shameful

Would be willing to bet scum clubs like Aberdeen,Hibs and Hearts saw far more money from a TV deal featuring Rangers than a clubs like East Fife or Peterhead ever did.

If I remember right,st mirren were holding out against the move and they were put under a lot of pressure by the rest of the spl, especially that rat of an Aberdeen chairman who accused St mirren of ruining scottish football by not agreeing.

Got into a ruck with an Indy nutter on Twitter about sofa and rangers he came back with this gem is he correct... Secret 5 way deal. Giving Rangers a license to play in Europe when there was an outstanding tax bill.

Avoid Twitter.

Or just tell him to %^*& off. No one cares anymore.

I still think the sudden merger of the SPL & SFL into the SPFL was done by these organisations as to protect them in some way from Rangers seeking retribution in years to come.
A former 3rd division club board member, who was involved at the time, told me that the SPL were close to liquidation themselves. The SFL had several hundred grand in the bank, it was a takeover and not a merger and the SFL money was enough to help them avoid liquidation. That could explain wiggys pain and comments when St Boo initially refused to tow the line.

It was more a takeover not a merger. The SFL was absorbed into the SPL and it was rebranded as the SPFL. I think I’m correct in saying that the SPFL has the same company number as the SPL was. So, if there is any truth that they were seeking to escape anything then they have made a pretty ham-fisted, and doomed, attempt at it.

More sameco than newco, if you like.
This is mostly correct and it is to Scottish football's eternal shame that the Scottish Football League - the 2nd oldest league competition in world football - was obliterated through the greed of the then SPL.

David Longmuir was chief exec of the SFL. If it had not been for him then we'd be looking at a very different Rangers today. He was the man who was mostly responsible for us being admitted to the SFL. Without his assistance we'd not have a ball to kick and I think we should make him an honorary member of Rangers' Hall of Fame.

Where he did drop a bollock, though, was when it came to negotiations with the then SPL. The SPL insisted on access to the SFL's TV/Broadcasting rights (meaning mostly access to Rangers games) as their then broadcasting partner threatened to reduce the SPL's TV income. The SPL bullied and threatened The SFL and stated they would withhold money due to the SFL following the independence of the SPL. They also threatened to set up SPL2 if the SFL didn't give in to their merger demands. To quote one club chairman:

It is not Rangers that have brought this situation to pass but, rather, the elitism, protectionism and greed of the SPL clubs who wish to preserve the financial status quo whilst keeping Rangers and the SFL firmly in their places.

If Longmuir had not been such a nice guy and had told the SPL to do one and negotiated enhanced TV rights for the SFL on the back of our admission to League 3 then we'd be looking at a rather different football league landscape today.

Compare and contrast.

2007. Leeds Utd fail to exit administration via a CVA. A new company (newco) bought the assets and the original company went into liquidation. Leeds started the following season in the league they were supposed to be in, with a points deduction. End of matter.

2012. Rangers fail to exit administration via a CVA. A new company (newco) bought the assets and the original company went into liquidation. The Scottish football authorities told Rangers there was no precedent for dealing with this situation (Leeds?) so it would be left for the clubs to vote. Rangers were kicked out of the SPL and went all the way down to the bottom tier. We had prize money withheld. We were fined. We were hit with an illegal transfer ban. They tried to blackmail us into forfeiting titles and trophies in exchange for transferring our football license/SFA membership to the new company. We've spent the next 7 years listening to moonhowlers telling everyone who will listen that we're a new club, with certain "journalists" joining in and giving it credence.

The morning after we win 55 that wee story should land in the inbox of the SFA and every media outlet in the country with a demand for an explanation.

Tell that one to your yahoo pal.

You can guarantee the day we land 55 there's going to be the likes of Spence, Spiers, Chris Harvey and other journalists commenting on our first league title and the first time a non-OF team has broken to the OF strangehold. It's an absolute guarantee.

And then in 5-7 years time when we get to number 60 there's going to be uproar and complaints when we unveil a 6th jersey on our shirt.

We should be taking the front foot with this. Should the be any negotiations or deals between the club and the SPFL, we need something documented in writing that the league respects and acknowledges our previous titles.

Hahahahaha.

5 way deal was to do with League Membership.
Rangers didn’t need a Euro licence as we were voted out the “breakaway” private Members Club of the SPL that required us to join the Scottish Football League. They then merged the Football League and SFA to make the SPFL. Why even bother engaging with these freaks. Just tell him Big Jock Knew and let him roast.
Was it not the SPL and the SFL who merged to form the SPFL?

The league confirmed the club survived and all our history and titles are in tact 7 years ago.

Chill.

And enjoy..

And add, that UEFA, SFA, SPFL and, thanks to the more rancid amongst the filth support, the Advertising Standards Authority, all say we are the same club

Don't fret mate, when 55 comes they will know with the feeling of pain that we're the same club. No amount of words on facebook or twitter will convince their heart to believe otherwise. There will be empty words that they will soon get pig sick of writing as they come to terms with reality biting once again. Look forward to the day, we're within sight of it and it's coming soon.

I was just about to post the same. The SFL would have been able to negotiate their own TV deal and the SPL (who didn't need us remember) shat it and arranged a merger/takeover to ensure they could keep making money from us.

Inserts GIF of entire audience standing up and applauding (if I could LOL)

Yes that is what I wrote. The Football League is what the FL in SFL stands for lol

You've jumped in with two feet there I think mate. Read it again. Wee typo I think.

Hahahahaha.

That’s correct. When we were standing in the queue for season tickets after the boycott, Charles Green came out and was talking to folk in the queue, he showed us a message he had on his phone from SPFL saying that any video footage had to be taken of our web site, we hadn’t the rites for it.

The SPL lasted one season without Rangers in it/with the old firm apart.

In order to save the Sky TV deal the SPL & SFL had to merge to bring both clubs under the one umbrella as Sky weren’t going to continue paying the SPL x amount of £s to premierly broadcast tims games and the SFL x amount of £s to show Rangers games.

If it didn’t happen and Sky had pulled out then Christ knows where that would have left half the cabal of SPL clubs who thought they were billy bigbaws in the summer of 2012.

There was one reason and one reason only for the merger/takeover.

To save the TV deal and don’t let them tell you otherwise.
