100%. fear factor can be the fear to disappoint or the fear to let down or the fear to anger. Many different connotations but in the end its still fear. The great leaders fully understand and use fear in its many forms. Different personalities respond to different forms and the ability to identify when and how to use is paramount
Everyone is different in how they respond to it
But if someone tries to make me fear something I get pretty militant about it
personally a manager who supports me helps and backs me up them And has a clear vision I do everything I can for them, they try put fear into me I do the bare min until he is under pressure, covering my own back until either he goes or i get bored and move to next role.
Creating letting someone down is a get out is the same but if you build a positive mindset that can be done together you have a stronger team
It just doesn't work for long term results short term yes you will get a bounce in some cases but generally not effective for team building shared goals etc the person becomes disruptive to others even if not meaning to be through affinity talking about it, becomes a toxic environment.
Managing people is about the relationship you have with that person you don't even need like each other but you do need have trust that you both can do what is required and help one another.
That's what Smith/af/pep all good managers have is the ability and presence to get key people to follow the goal they have and get them to lead it while overseeing it.
Take Alfie the hibs game the way club dealt with that from club/gio/tav was wrong they threw him under the bus......... in same game lawerence had shocker on him that was lucky didn't get his ankle broken, there was similar fouls to Alfie from hibs on matondo, and that's before the red for lundstrum.
Alfie was stupid especially as down to 10 men but we threw him under bus and it prob went through the team we should have came out straight away highlighted the other tackles slaughtered collum yet again.
If we had appealed it would prob have lost but he would have felt he was backed and maybe doesn't down tools.
Instead club accepted basically being cheated out of 2 points with lundstrum card, lawerence scored after that tackle but had to be taken off
From club/ manager/ captain that was poor and was the start of pressure building on the players and gio
