SNP’s James Dornan accused of ‘making up bigotry’ after linking bus cancellations to ‘anti-Irish racism’

It’s more sinister than that. In the aftermath of George Square, Sturgeon, Youssaf and Dornan - and every other SNP politician who spoke - mentioned anti-Irish racism and anti-Catholic bigotry. Clearly a policy decision.

I agree.

The reason for this may well be that groups like "call it out" and NBM and fans against criminalisation have actually succeeded in making sectarianism in Scotland only about anti Catholicism and they have succeeded in actually making anti irish racism a thing when in fact it doesn't really exist.

What is next on the hit list of these hate driven bigots?
  • Try to lawfully redefine Protestantism in Scotland as an anti catholic sect instead of a global Christian religion?
  • Have the flying of the Union Jack banned from all public building in Scotland and lawfully perceived to be an extreme right wing symbol.
  • Ban the Orange Order
The above are totally outrageous but where we are now would have sounded outrageous 20 years ago.

In my opinion these groups have succeeded in doing something that we are just not motivated enough in sufficient numbers to do anything other than piss and moan about on forums.

The reply there from the presiding officer is beyond a joke . So weak and pathetic . That’s why people like dornan feel untouchable , they can basically say and do whatever they like with zero comeback in 2021 Scotland . An utter disgrace . Someone challenges you on any matter at all , and no matter if you are bang to rights just shout “ bigot, racist “ at the person and bobs your uncle . A horrible road we have gone down and a very dangerous , insidious one .

GCC was opposing the Union Flag almost 20 years ago, mate. Our problem is that elected Unionist officials in Scotland are not pro-active but re-active in defending the Union. The Conservatives at Holyrood should have been demanding censure for the ludicrous Lothian Bus comments.

Here’s another excellent piece by Rick Roberts. Rick has also done blogs on the Celtic boys club abuse scandal. If anyone hasn’t read his previous work then I urge you to so..

Fantastic article which is accurate and factual and doesn’t miss Dornan.

The thought of him frothing at the mouth when he sees it (and he will see it) is most pleasing!

Wow, what a good article. Regrettably it will not get much exposure as the Republican media puppets will not raise their head above the gutter never mind the parapet.

It's about time someone stood up and told it as it is. Well done on him, pity won't be many that read it, if they do they will make up some lame excuse as always to cover it

Looks like this story still hasn't been put to bed...

Lothian Buses anti-Catholic bigotry claim: SNP leadership must condemn James Dornan's 'baseless slur' (or condone it) – Steve Cardownie

Now my fellow columnist and City of Edinburgh councillor John McLellan has taken the matter further by tabling a motion at tomorrow’s full council meeting which calls for the council to intervene and make its displeasure known to the MSP concerned in no uncertain terms.

His motion utterly condemns the “baseless slur by SNP MSP James Dornan against Lothian Buses management that the decision to suspend services on March 17 (St Patrick’s Day) was motivated by anti-Catholic bigotry”.

The motion “instructs the council leader to write to Mr Dornan to express the unanimous dismay of this council at his accusation and calls upon Mr Dornan to issue a full public apology to the company for casting groundless aspersions on the integrity of its staff”.

The leader of the council has not referred to this matter in his customary report to the meeting so we are unclear what, if any, action he took to defend Lothian Buses, which is 91 per cent owned by the City of Edinburgh Council.

It may well be that this issue has been raised behind the scenes but Lothian Buses employees and the public at large cannot be faulted if they would prefer to see some official rebuke coming from the City Chambers.

There may be some reluctance within the SNP group to be seen publicly criticising a Scottish National Party MSP but James Dornan displayed no such hesitation and must have made the offending remarks in the full knowledge that Lothian Buses was publicly owned and that the SNP was the senior partner in the administration of the council that owned it.

Did he stop to think about the potential repercussions of his ill-conceived contribution to a debate? If not, he should have, if he did but still went ahead then he fully deserves every bit of criticism that has come his way as a result.

Section 41 of the Scotland Act 1998 makes it crystal clear that MSPs are protected if they make potentially defamatory statements when it says that “this section confers absolute privilege for the purposes of the law of defamation on any statement made in the proceedings of the Parliament and on the publication of any statement under the authority of the Parliament”.

James Dorman MSP is therefore allowed to accuse Lothian Buses of anti-Catholic bias in the full knowledge that he cannot be held legally accountable for his comments and John McLellan addresses this in his motion which states that the council “further condemns Mr Dornan’s use of parliamentary privilege to make such an allegation without a shred of evidence”.

So it will be interesting to see whether or not the motion attracts unanimous support – for if any political group fails to condemn James Dornan’s statements, they will, to all intents and purposes, effectively be condoning them.

i was thinking yesterday it’s incredible how little scrutiny they get - sturgeon more or less shrugged her shoulders over London and the Manchester farce and wasn’t challenged. I almost thought Harvie was about to challenge her but he drew up short.

The Scottish fans should have been condemned more than Rangers
She should have picked up the phone to Birnam, instead accused him of political posturing without a hint of awareness of the irony.

Where has Yousaf gone in all this?

Patrick Harvie of the Greens?! Wow.

As for Youseless, IMO he has clearly been told to take a back seat - he's not even on their covid briefings given he offers little meaningful in the way of what one should when in his position.

It would be immensely satisfying if the Yousless hate law could be used against Dornan, and also help achieve an independent inquiry into Celtic's child abuse.
Dornan's actions, rather than his words are the proof of his hate. To deceive Gordon Woods with promises of helping abuse survivors, and delivering a public inquiry, and then cut off communication with him by blocking him on Twitter is disgusting. There must be hatred in Dornan's motivation to do something like that. He must hate Celtic abuse survivors for seeking justice against the club he will defend at any cost.
If ever there was a group of vulnerable people, suffering prejudicial treatment from the Scottish Parliament, Celtic and the football authorities it's the survivors of Celtic's boys club abuse scandal.

Lothian Buses are a disgrace for not suing that muppet, and kicking him out of politics in the process. He defamed and slandered their company. Its an open and shut case.

It costs huge amounts to go to court for these things and even if you win there may be no prospect of recovery of the money. It's not worth it. The best they could probably do is get their lawyers to write and ask for a public apology.

Wee Krankies silence on these matters , when her cohorts embarrass themselves points to her agreeing with their lies and nonsense in particular the wee leprechaun from Cathcart Dorman , and Yusef , two loose cannons free to say what they like, never once apologising for their mistakes or outbursts , ironically full of the very things they are so quick to accuse others of.
When challenged , on no matter what , they immediately accuse you of being a racist or a bigot , then block you on their various forms of media platforms We must vote them out and grab our country back

NHS SCOTLAND

Every time Dornan opens his mouth it's to accuse someone of "anti-Irish or anti-Catholic" bigotry. Both of which are massively exaggerated things and especially in all of his accusations don't happen.

Even the SNP with their low morals and stupid ideals must see this man is a f**king headcase best kept out of politics altogether.

Dominic Scally is investigating.
Yeah and the quote that appeared from the Uefa Cup Final in 2008 that ' Rangers fans had caused havoc and destruction to Manchester the likes of which had not been seen since the Lutwafte sorties of WW2 ' well that puts paid to that nonsense in fact I think Laurie used that quote on SSB.

Just spoke to our people director himself and the board received a mealy mouthed apology from the SG which in their eyes is not good enough. Our People Director has now written a strongly worded letter to helmet heid this is by no means being swept under the carpet

It has not had Royal Assent so not yet Law , that’s expected in Autumn 2021 . Theoretically it could happen in the future though .

You get cut off even if your entry call is to praise a Yahoo.
When told the judge talks shite as 300 million quids worth of damage trying to get central shopping center back up running after the IRA planted a bomb at the Arndale shopping center.
People with PTSD unable to work again, streets cut off for months, high percentage of plod walking about for months to be 'noticed' creating a terrorist free zone from the IRA. The bombers probably took their seats in a stadium close to their hearts soon after.

I mind walking in behind the fencing after the IRA blew up The Arndale Shopping center and it looked like Godzilla had bit a chunk out the place.

The judge is an utter fucking belled and the Yahoo use it to this day forgetting their hero's were sitting next to them at the next home game.

Rangers fans planted absolute quids into the tills of all businesses, a quick sweep up and up the road.

It has had Royal Assent. It became law on 23rd April.
People have been prosecuted under the hate bill already.
