SPFL Formally Requests Emergency Meeting with First Minister

Im utterly torn here as I despise both but I have to say that the prick that is Doncaster is doing the right thing in my view.
There is no way Sturgeon is going to allow football fans into grounds before a vaccine is actually getting distributed. After waiting this long she won’t cave in now.
Can see us getting in to see the league trophy being raised though.

You do know she has allowed it to happen

Tier 0 & 1 allows it so far Ross County v Livingston, Ross County v Stirling Albion & Inverness CT v Raith Rovers have 300 fans each game allowed so far

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says football cannot be treated "in isolation" amid the SPFL's renewed attempts to hasten the return of fans. Ms Sturgeon was responding to league chief executive Neil Doncaster's request for an emergency meeting.

Amid different Covid regulations in each UK country, England will permit up to 4,000 spectators at outdoor events in lowest-risk areas next month. Only 300 are permitted in stadia in Scotland's two lowest lockdown tiers.

Sturgeon said: "However much Neil Doncaster, for reasons I understand, is only looking at football, we can't see any sector or any part of society in isolation because there is only so much we can do overall to keep the virus under control."

There’s no logical reason fans shouldn’t be able to return when you’ve seen pubs/restaurants/supermarkets busy

If a team thinks they can afford to police it, then how can they not have 10/20% capacity

The Scottish Gov are a joke

Clubs are in need of monies in but getting a percentage of fans back wouldn't help as I don't see clubs letting paying fans back in before us guys that have paid our season tickets upfront.
I doubt if the really small clubs have sold any STs.

Realistically for us and them probably hospitality money is the bigger loss. I don’t see the the balloons in charge (take your pick who) are going to agree to guys getting in to bars-restaurants at grounds on match days any time soon.

As others have said, that’s got fat Pete all over it.

I’m content with how things are.

We’ll see what happens.

Bold Peter wants the the rhabids back to cheer ra poops on
He needs them back, he doesn’t want them back. A big difference.

As much as I’d like to get back to Ibrox, I can’t see how it’s possible while there is still stringent restrictions on society. There is already a routemap to getting small number of fans back - get to tier 1.

I'm slightly baffled by this tbh.

We can barely drive a few miles outside of your front door (legally), yet we're expecting to have thousands of fans inside stadiums?

Can't see it happening at all.

Quelle Surprise

Doncaster doing his masters bidding as the scum are desperate to get fans back into Parkpaed as they are using this as an excuse for their team being shite

It’s obvious the mentally challenged players are poorly coached and managed by an alky tramp with a shite backroom team

Who cares who wants it at this point

We need fans back at games

"The SPFL has today written to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asking for an emergency meeting to end the lock-out of fans across the country."

Much better if he had written to the First Minister to end the pandemic, that would solve a lot of problems not just football.

My biggest concern is that there are clubs in the top flight that end up going bust or can’t complete their fixtures and the spfl are then forced to void the league. That’s my biggest worry about us not winning this league which is damming for the on field abilities of the other 11 teams

Dear First Minister

From your enthusiastic reaction to the magnificent achievement of the men’s Scottish national team earlier this month, it’s clear you share a passion for our game.

I am sure you are equally keen to safeguard the very future of Scotland’s national sport, which has been hit far harder by the lock-out than south of the border because it depends much more heavily on gate receipts.

For almost nine months, and despite the enormous financial consequences, our clubs have fastidiously followed every directive and every instruction from your Government. Clubs, supporters and players have been hugely patient as we have played our full part in the national effort to combat coronavirus.

However, with the very welcome news that clubs in England are being allowed to bring back fans in limited numbers, we are seeking urgent talks with you to ensure that Scottish clubs, and Scottish fans are permitted to do the same in very short order.

As you will know, every major club in Scotland has very detailed, well-founded plans in place for safely returning fans back to stadiums. Thousands upon thousands of Scottish fans are simply desperate to get back to watching their teams in the safety of a carefully-managed, open-air environment. Apart from supporter safety, there is no higher priority for our game. It’s now time to get the fans back.

Scottish football is on its knees and clubs big and small the length and breadth of the country are in the most dire straits, with income projected to drop by £100 million this season alone. Failure to get fans back in the very near future will sound the death knell for some of our bestloved clubs, which would be a tragedy on many levels, given the enormous contribution they make to the economic, cultural and community life of our nation. No-one wants that to happen.

You alone have the chance to put a much-needed smile on the faces of millions of Scottish football fans, giving them an early Christmas present by quickly approving the carefullymanaged return of fans across the country.

The response amongst Scottish supporters to the news about English football fans returning has been resounding and, having taken extensive soundings at all levels of our game, I have been asked to request an emergency meeting with you, because time is really against us.

Together with senior representatives from our clubs, we are entirely at your disposal. We will meet with you under any circumstances, remotely or in person, day or night, to fit in with your busy schedule and we eagerly await your response.

Yours sincerely
Neil Doncaster
Chief Executive
It is a wonder that he hasn't squeezed in that old tattie about Scottish Football being worth over £200Million per annum to the Scottish economy.

A rousing speech from Peter and Nicola will have us back in stadiums before the new year. Not a problem.

Sturgeon's passion is Scotland,

I'd argue her passion isn't Scotland, Nationalism for her is purely a political convenience to prevent the possibility of a Tory government. Her enthusiasm for Scotland is just a mask. She has no ideological, romantic attachment to Independence in the way Salmond etc have.

And she hates football

Dear Mrs Krankie,

Peter and Neic say they need fans in to save 10inarow and stop the Huns from winning the league.

Please, please, please do what they want. Neic is sending me threatening texts and Peter says I won’t be getting any more brown bags with cash in them.

Don't know her personally (although her granny lived two doors down from us when I lived with my folks!!) so cannot comment on her reasons for being a Nat. You may be perfectly correct, but if all she wants is to avoid a Tory government she shouldn't have gotten involved in nationalism and should have joined the Labour party.

Splitter!!!

She added: "Of course we do have a situation in Scotland where fans are allowed back into stadiums in limited numbers in level one areas, and we've seen I think Ross County had fans back in.

"However much Neil Doncaster, for reasons I understand, is only looking at football, we can't see any sector, or any part of society. in isolation.

"It's difficult for football, I know that, but it's difficult for lots of people, lots of businesses, lots of sectors.

"We can see that light getting brighter on the horizon, but I'm afraid the next few months will still involve some tough decisions."

Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard said: "Nicola Sturgeon must agree to these talks without delay, as our national sport now faces an unprecedented crisis due to the loss of matchday revenue for clubs.

Helmet Heid has torpedoed it already.

I don't have it to hand, but it was in a biography of her that in the 80s, she realised that Scotland would always be at the mercy of England in terms of having a Tory Govt. Labour

Is that real ? Surely not . “ we are entirely at your disposal “ . Jesus Christ

Outside of ourselves and them, football up here doesn't generate enough money for the Scottish Government to be interest in any pleas from the SPFL. As much as I dislike the SNP, they are probably right to ignore any SPFL requests when there are large portions of the populations lively hoods at risk.

As usual this forums first thought for some reason is Celtic but it's clear that that clubs in League 1/2 could easily get near to their usual capacity with a even restrictions of say 600. That would go a long way to ensuring their survival.

Ra celic must be in more trouble than they are letting on.Honestly if I received a pompous letter like that it would be straight in the bin.
His "extensive soundings" will have been a phone call from Liewell telling him to earn the 300k that he is draining from our game.

Lawell calls for an emergency meeting asking for league to be stopped if no fans are allowed in

You do know she has allowed it to happen

Tier 0 & 1 allows it so far Ross County v Livingston, Ross County v Stirling Albion & Inverness CT v Raith Rovers have 300 fans each game allowed so far
Yeah but the central belt will not get out of tier 3 any time soon. Token gesture to the SPFL.

Doncaster isn't doing this on behalf of smaller clubs, mate. He's a hired Celtc stooge and nothing else.

The guys a fud but he is absolutely correct. No reason at all we can’t have 10% capacity split between all 4 stands after this lockdown ends.
I’m all for fans back in stadiums but I think it’s the thought of 5/6 thousand people leaving at the one time and crowding on to public transport etc that they are looking at being the health problem

The limited number of fans that could potentially be allowed in would just about cover the extra steward cost to ensure compliance. For all we want to be back in, it’s about limiting exposure and risk. To me, there are much harder hit areas of the economy that restrictions could be eased over fans watching football. While there are so many businesses hard pressed to stay afloat, it would be extremely difficult to justify in my opinion. While the entitled premiership teams are losing £50M plus per season, the average Scottish club losses are insignificant by comparison. To put it another way, would you rather have a job to be able to support your family, pay the bills and buy a season ticket or be unemployed and allowed to watch a game?

Political leaders across the UK will be bracing themselves for the knock on effect of Xmas and New Year socialising. Middle of January will surely see significant rises in case numbers. The last thing they will want to be seen to be condoning in the grand scheme of things is the return of football crowds. The lower Covid tiers may get something but not the higher ones. SFA/SPFL will have to face that reality. Had they run the game better over the years they might have been in a better position to withstand what we are all going thro right now. Only themsleves to blame. Has Doncaster offered a wage refund yet ?

Any amount of fans at Ibrox would be a massive boost to the players.

Meanwhile, over at the chamber of secrets they'd get nothing but grief off the hordes.

The tramps are running out of money.
The players are doing fine mate the last thing they need is a toxic atmosphere if they don’t score after 5 mins.

Yet is no different to what is is going to happen in England just about getting the right numbers
Correct, but when has the SNP done anything during this pandemic which mirrors anything that's happened in England?
She won't allow it. In my opinion.

Doncaster is right but Sturgeon is very unlikely to back down.

No reason why every ground cannot undertake an individual assessment and be certified to let a set percentage in using designated routes.

It would be a start and would make a huge difference to some of the smallest clubs. That is where it matters most just now. To illustrate a case; Airdrie has a 10'000 seater stadium and an average attendance of about 1000 - the local supermarkets have higher footfalls, fewer entrances and less ventilation!

Must be a cup final involving celtic coming soon. I'm sure lots of scotshit politicians will be desperate to be there.

Correct, but when has the SNP done anything during this pandemic which mirrors anything that's happened in England?
She won't allow it. In my opinion.
Yet she/SNP included in the tier system before England?

As I said it about getting it right number wise

300 would work for some clubs not not all

a lot of the lower clubs would usually struggle for 2,000 fans. No reason why they can’t have small capacity and we could get 5-10k in safely at least.

I am enjoying watching the SFA rolling about helplessly like the maggots they are though.
