SPFL vote hangs in the balance as Rangers plan to be scrutinised

SPFL vote in the balance as Rangers prize money plan set to go under the microscope
All 42 clubs have until 5pm on Friday to accept or reject the league body's proposal for concluding the season.

Scottish football’s D-Day coronavirus vote was hanging in the balance on Thursday night.

An exclusive Record Sport straw poll of the country’s 42 clubs suggests the chances of the SPFL’s emergency measures to end the current season may be no better than 50-50.

We understand the game’s fate in now in the hands of a small group of key undeclared clubs including the likes of Aberdeen, Hibs and Championship minnows Inverness Caley Thistle.

A counter proposal tabled by Rangers - which would stall any decision to end the 2019/20 campaign - will also go in front of the league’s board this morning and could also be put to the vote today if it is declared legally sound.

But the Ibrox club’s attempt to keep the season alive until all remaining games are played suffered a hammer blow when the SFA announced that football will stay in lock-down until the end of July at the earliest.

That declaration has ended any remaining possibility that the remaining matches could be played out over the summer and squeezed in before the scheduled start of next season - when multi-million pound new TV contracts with Sky Sports and Premier Sports are due to kick in.

And any perceived threat to that TV cash could swing voting in the SPFL’s favour on Friday as Hampden’s sixth floor braces itself ahead of tonight’s 5pm deadline.

____________

What a lot of errors in Klaxons latest diatribe.
Hibs and Aberdeen aren't voting tomorrow.

What a poorly researched attempt at speculating. And the league is only saying lockdown until June 10th - not the end of July.

Mind you... it is the record.

Don't give it the hits Bears.

League bosses want to bring the shutters down on the Championship, League One and League Two with immediate effect.

They also want top flight clubs to agree that the season should be ended and Celtic declared champions by the end of this month if there is no prospect by then of re-starting the game over the summer.

Thursday's statement from SFA president Rod Petrie has also effectively torpedoed any hopes of salvaging what’s left of the season this side of August.

In a statement released by the Joint Response Group it was announced that the SFA has extended the suspension of all levels of the game until June 10, on the advice of government and medical experts.

That means all clubs will be prohibited from holding group training sessions until that date at the earliest.

The statement went on to reveal that the SFA has received a letter from Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing, Joe FitzPatrick, in which he states restrictions banning gatherings of more than two people are likely to stay in place for at least 13 weeks.

It is also claimed that FitzPatrick ‘note the medical advice that competitive matches could not take place for about six weeks after training and conditioning recommences.’.

Petrie said: “The message is very clear: the government restrictions introduced to save lives must be adhered to and there is no prospect of an early resumption of training let alone organised football in Scotland for several weeks.

“Scottish football applauds everyone working within NHS Scotland and the care sector and should place no additional burden at a time when their resources are being tested to the limit because of COVID-19.”

And that stark warning could have a material effect on today’s voting as clubs from all over the country decide on the SPFL’s emergency proposals.

Our poll - most of which was carried out before last night’s surprise plot twist - points to a tight finish.

In order to push the proposals through the SPFL needs the backing of nine top flight clubs, eight from the Championship and 15 more from across the third and fourth tiers.

Rangers and Hearts have already joined forces in the hope of sinking the plan and they will be hoping both Aberdeen and Hibs side with them.

The Ibrox club have also tabled an urgent resolution of their own which would see end of season prize money distributed to Scotland’s cash strapped clubs immediately - but the campaign remain on hold until such times as it can be completed.

The SPFL board will decide on Friday morning if this proposal is ‘legally competent’ and able to be put to the vote.

A source said: “The Rangers resolution can only be moved forward and put to the clubs if it is found to be competent. Right now that’s a big if.”

If not - and if both Hibs and Aberdeen do not team up to scupper the SPFL plan, then the focus will almost certainly shift to the Championship where the outcome iof today’s vote seems even more uncertain.

Partick Thistle and Dundee will vote ‘no’ and need only one more club to join them in order to keep their season open. It’s believed their best hope lies with Inverness Caley Thistle - who would be denied a chance of promotion through the play-offs under the SPFL plan.

On Thursday, despite our repeated attempts to contact him, Caley’s chief executive Scot Gardiner was unavailable for comment.

It’s says all 42 clubs have by 5pm to aye or nay mate?

That's wrong though Haining.

,__________

The resolution reads: “The SPFL recommends that clubs approve:

“The immediate termination of season 2019/20 for the Ladbrokes Championship, League 1 and League 2, without the remaining fixtures in the League being played;

“All play-off competitions being cancelled;

Edit: I see this:

To pass, the SPFL proposal requires the approval of nine of the 12 Premiership clubs, eight of the 10 Championships clubs and 15 of 20 clubs in League One and Two.

So the spfl are involved in the voting tomorrow? Confused loyal.

My understanding mate is all 42 vote and it needs 75% in the top flight, the championship and L1&L2 as 3 individual groups to pass it.

Very

An article in the ‘Dundee proposal’ thread says all 42 teams are voting today on the lowers leagues and says ‘The Premiership’s will be frozen fate until 23 April.’ Very confusing.

Lower league vote is final. Spfl will meet with UEFA to ‘finalise’ the Premiership vote on the 23rd.

We should table another amendment just in case our original one gets kicked out, saying if league placings declared final that while promotion and relegation will go ahead, no official titles are awarded and trophies withheld due to the season being declared over but incomplete.

Scotland really is turning into a bad music hall joke.

The Scottish Natzi’s in what looks like perpetual charge, able to say and do as they like. Destroy the education system and blame the Tories. Destroy the NHS and blame the Tories. They poison everything they touch but come up smelling of roses as long as they blame the Tories (which, as we all know, is a convenient euphemism for “English” which allows them to wear one facet of their bigotry openly on their sleeves).

This extends into football, where we have the top man at one of the governing bodies who openly and happily admits to despising their largest club in the country, where almost every other member club has colluded in the past to destroy and humiliate that same club based on flawed evidence (and absolute lies) from HMRC. We have an anti-racism “charity” made up of rabidly bigoted imbeciles from one “minority” whose hysterical shrieking is accepted without question.

The media is openly and unashamedly biased against this same club, completely uninterested in printing the truth and instead happy to peddle whatever lies they are fed by their paymasters. They are an utter disgrace to their “profession”.

Worst of all, we have all of the above (SNP, football governing bodies, member clubs and media) conspiring and colluding to protect one single club from being properly investigated over the obvious paedophile ring which operated with impunity within that club, not for months or years but DECADES.

Do we really think there is any hope for any kind of “sporting integrity” (or even basic morals) from anyone else in Scottish football? My only hope is that this current situation leads to an amalgamation of leagues in UK, allowing us to get out of this pathetic backwater and on to a level playing field.

To be perfectly honest it puts a nice dodgy end on a tainted 9 in a row. It will never be celebrated or remembered by anybody as an iconic team and that will bother them big time
This is why I’ve got a funny feeling Celtic might vote against it, to try and gain the morale high ground and stipulate that one way or another the season must be played out.

We should table another amendment just in case our original one gets kicked out, saying if league placings declared final that while promotion and relegation will go ahead, no official titles are awarded and trophies withheld due to the season being declared over but incomplete.

It’s incomplete anyway and no matter what scam or bribe they come up with to hand them or give them the title , they didn’t win it .

We should have a decision by this evening on both proposals.

The new suspension of football has put us behind the 8 ball a bit.

I still think the most likely outcome is the clubs won’t be allowed to vote on our resolution and will vote through the initial resolution out of fear of going bust

10th June is when they can go back training is it not ?

They are then recommending another six weeks of training before allowing them to play which would take us until the end of July

Can anyone explain yet why ending the league is different to voiding the league in terms of paying out monies and TV contracts?
Both involve not completing the remaining fixtures!

The only difference would seem to be that ending it would relegate and promote some clubs illegitimately (which makes bugger all difference to their finances as I assume no company is offering big sponsorship just now or arranging hospitality and the chance remains strong that there won’t be a 2020/21 season in August). And the idea that the SPFL really care about minnows getting promoted is utterly unbelievable.

The only other difference is to possibly bankrupt Hearts and give Celtic illegitimate bragging rights. Surely this can’t be the stated explanation??

We need someone to get a straight answer from the SPFL as to what benefit they see from ending vs voiding.

And we need a direct question of whether, if they insist on ending, they don’t end it with standings after the second round of fixtures when everyone had played the same home and away fixtures.

10th of June is what I thought. I stopped reading at end of July! Bunch of fucking amateurs!

Maybe stupid question but why do they nerd to name a champion? Surely they could say placings are as final for money and european placings, however due to season bring incomplete no "champions" will be crowned for the 19/20 season.
They can have league reconstruction so that no one relegated and teams are promoted...again not "champions"
Would keep all but 1 team happy but the sweetner for them and kick in balls for us is that they get crack at Champions league but tbf they will %^*& ot up anyway and if UEFA do right thing,( i know) then we wont need to qualify for EL due to reaching last 16.
Seems a good get out to me

The mentally challenged press said the league couldn't be voided as this would stop pay outs from TV and sponsors as not all games would be completed.

How is that different from still not playing the games and just giving the mentally challengeds another tainted title?

You’ve got it all wrong @George Goudie. All 42 clubs vote, in 3 voting blocks. To pass the vote needs approval by 75% (9-3) in the Premier League, 75% (8-2) in the Championship and 75% (15-5) in the combined League 1/2.

If the plan passes the lower leagues end immediately and the SPFL Board is given the authority to terminate the Premier League any old time they want without another vote.

It won‘t pass.

Cheers SG, it was a long winded rant and I still couldn’t fit in sectarian schooling and corrupt police and justice system. Makes me sad to see what my homeland has become but glad I escaped when I did 15 years ago before the madness really kicked off.

WTF does ‘legally competent’ mean??
I think I can guess; if sellik and Doncaster don’t want a vote on our resolution then it won’t happen.

Look, it’s a stitch-up but if they’re awarded the title their 9 in a row foolery is done.
We weren’t even in the league for a number of them.
Nobody will really care.

Agreed.

Just split all the monies equally over all clubs and void the season. That's the only solution that looks after clubs financially whilst also maintaining sporting integrity....

They are desperate to hand the title to Celtc, In some ways I hope they do, as a) that rotten club would grasp it without shame and b) it would eternally put the kibosh on their tainted "9 in a row".
Hollicom will spin any awarded trophy that it’s for all the frontline staff and people who have lost there lives.! Q the mhedia fawning over such a courageous act.
