Steven Gerrard's side have the boffins believing they are bonafide contenders to lift this season's trophy.

Rangers' form domestically has had the fabled Supercomputer on the verge of discombobulation for months now.

Steven Gerrard's side are undefeated in the Premiership and now their Europa League exploits also have the boffins at FiveThirtyEight seriously impressed.

Rangers thrilling 9-5 aggregate win over Antwerp has them in the last 16 with an exciting clash with fellow underdogs Slavia Prague up next

It won't be easy but few would bet against Gerrard and his achievers going on an extended run in a tournament they are unbeaten in this season.

And former Ibrox skipper Barry Ferguson rightly points out the current team are able to fully concentrate on an extended run in the tournament.

The Premiership title is almost among their grasp and this season's Scottish Cup is no sure thing with Scottish league below the Championship still shut down.

Rangers are serious contenders and Nate Silver's website makes them the seventh most likely team to make the semi-finals out of the 16 teams remaining - the only teams ahead of them are among the biggest on the continent.

The Ibrox side have also been given a 9 per cent chance to make the Final - better than likes of Milan, Olympiacos and the same as big-spending Shakhtar Donestsk.

And the probability Rangers win the tournament is 3 per cent but that number could quickly change if a big hitter like Manchester United or Arsenal exit in the next round.

You would have thought someone would have thrown it in the bin by now

Was it 78% Celtic winning the league at the start?

Ive said before, you could walk in to any pub across the country every sunday after the weekends results are in and ask some auld jakey who'll win the league, youd get the same response as this "super" computer.

"Celic huv jist lowst, Rangurs jist pumped somebody, A hink Rangurs L win"

I think their analysis is very good. We beat the odds this season, we ended last season at rock bottom and they ended it on a high.

20,000 hard drives to create the perfect storm 55th league another world record and a final win prediction for once a computer not full of porn.

What a load of pish, Shakhtar should be one of the favourites

Five thirty eight also picked Hillary to win in 2016 by a landslide and predicted the unwashed would get Terry Munro

So aye they’re probably right this time
