Tav as a number 8

The right side number 8 midfield position is becoming a bit of an issue for me.

We've tried a few there now, but none of them offer Goldson and Tav the same protection Jack did, or that Kamara provides on the left side.

Could Tav play that role for is with Patterson at right back?

He certainly has the energy and would add some much needed pace to the midfield as well as a threat with shots from distance.

Also, in theory he should be good at covering the full back, helping the defence and shuttling across laterally.

Issue might be on the ball and having less time in there.

Aribo doesn't work there, neither does Arfield and it's beginning to look like Lundstram might be better as a defensive number 6.

I'd like to see us trying Tav in there. Thoughts?

We are struggling this season because neither Tav or Barasic are attacking players.
They are defenders.
Opposition players can easily combat their effectiveness when they are being used as our main creative players.

They are great options to have and better than what 95% of clubs in Europe have in their positions.
They are great players, great crossers of a ball, great dead ball specialists, excellent defenders.
But they haven't spent 10 years as the focal point of an attack, so when they are in a team with Davis and Kamara, and played as the go to forward creativity, we are going to fall short.

You can't have Tav in the last line of defence. No way. Try him as a No.8 lol

Why is he so imp

Why is he so important to us this year when our centre backs are forever shouting at him because he gets caught out of position so much?.

You must be heartbroken on a regular basis when Tav is scoring sensational match winning goals, consistently assisting more goals than any full back in the UK and just been part of a record breaking clean sheet defence.

I really feel for you mate.

If you'd seen Patterson playing in midfield for Scotland under 21s last season, looking totally lost and getting hooked at half time, you would never have recommended Nathan playing there mate.

He simply can't play the position.

Recently we don't play with an 8. It tends to be 3 6's or the likes of a 10 like Aribo or Hagi dropping into midfield. I suppose Arfield is the closest we have to an 8 but he is more of an attacking player. Could Lundstram be an 8? I think so and I believe he could also be a central 6 as an option for Davis. Tav is a right back and he stays there IMO.

Certainly not the worst suggestion ever but can't see it happening.
