Tavernier

Everyone deserves to be bashed, you might accept what's going on but plenty of us don't and its unacceptable.

He was all over the shop and rightly should be criticised for his display.
Yeah mate can’t wait to go on Wednesday night to watch Simas first touch put the ball right out the park or dessers with his 4,5,6 offsides a game or Lammers constantly make the wrong decision turning inside and outside. Wasn’t tavs best game I’ll admit but folk on here expect him to be 10/10 every week. If no there’s a thread on him, give the guy a break calls for Devine or Sterling to take his place with nether coming close to 90 minutes total this season. Issue is Beale not using his main assets and when he just defends and plays like a right back not good enough

352 totally flattened our already mediocre game. Matondo n tav were working quite well together, him coming off for souttar saw us playing essentially 5 at the back with a holding midfielder. 6 in defence against motherwell who offered Nothing at all most of the game. Motherwell could go 3 up top and would find gaps in behind in the last 15 mins . Shit show
There's nothing you've said in this post that I disagree with. Only for Butland making a couple of good saves Tav clearing off the line and the one I spoke about where he eased the boy through on goal off the ball that could have been 3 or 4-1 to them today.

Surely to God we need to give Tav a rest at some point, regardless of whether he wants to play every game, regardless that he’s the captain. He looked absolutely out on his feet in the second half, leading to some really poor play and ridiculous decision making (getting caught at centre forward with a few minutes to play.)

And this is a thread supporting him: he needs rest!in
Why did he think it was a good idea to try a back heel just outside the oppositions box in the 95th minute - that’s not what you expect from a senior player - that’s a brain fart .

Tav seems to be the Emperors new clothes to managers.Everyone can see how defensively poor he is but hey you’re great and I’ll keep playing you no matter how badly out of form you are.

If it wasn't for him defensively today we lose that game though.

I will never understand why Tav felt he had to bulk up summer 2022. He was immense in our run to Seville and bombed up and down the rhs non stop. Since bulking up he has lost an edge and looks a shadow of himself, and is nowhere near the athlete he was previously.

I think with Tav a lot of opposition players are now wise to where he takes the ball and how he tends to pass it on and nullifies him accordingly

Tav’s hurting from the same thing Barisic is, no options ahead of them when they have the ball in advanced positions.
Its very apparent when you actually watch the game that we have no forward that shoes for the ball the way Kent & Morelos did.

Our lack of movement in forward areas is killing the team.

I suspect his brother may have been told or wanted to bulk up for the EPL and Tav trained out in Dubai with him.

it did him no favours and although it looks like he has lost a bit of the bulk the half yard of pace he had seems lost too.

He’s…what, 32 now ?

His peak on field performances are gone and they won’t come back.

It’s imperative we phase him out.

Ok mate you keep happy clapping and the emperors new clothes are lovely.

Only pointing out a fact about today's game.

If you're going to criticise the flaws in someone's game at least acknowledge when they've done something well. Today he saved us from dropping points.

Tav's form is symptomatic of the on field malaise at the moment. The whole team is struggling and he's as part of that as much as anyone.

There's no doubt that he's well off his form of two/three seasons ago although I do think some of the comments on this thread are exaggerated. He had three clearances, another one off the line and had an 81% pass accuracy, yet you'd think he could do nothing right and gave the ball away constantly.

It would be good to see Sterling start and Tav on the bench for the Livingston game.

Today was a great chance to bring on sterling and see how he does right wing. There's not enough of a goal threat in our attacking areas.

Ok mate so the ball hitting off his knee today negates all the honking defensive mistakes that he’s cost us.I suggest you jog on.

Tav needs some time out. What was the point of bringing in Sterling if we aren't going to give the lad a run of games?
(I say that as someone who appreciates Tav's massive contribution to Rangers)

This was possibly one of the worst individual performances I’ve seen.
He was quite simply atrocious and has been since the start of the season.

His first touch has gone under the radar for years but it’s genuinely up there with the worst I’ve seen in a Rangers shirt.

Even in his peak years his touch would bounce up or away from him, now it’s literally bouncing off him like a ball hitting a trampoline.

Dropping or subbing off Tav is difficult political situation for Beale because of the influence that Tav has in the dressing room. If he upsets Tav then that could turn the dressing room against Beale.

Tav and Borna have both been great signings for the club, but their best years are behind them.

I love Tav. He does things no one is capable of in the team. He does some stupid shite when we are seeing a game out though. He doesn't have a filter as to when we need a defender actually defending.

Sima is 22. You try playing in front of 50k who are absolutely fuming at the way the team is set up/playing. You can see the confidence draining from him game by game.

I wouldn't throw Devine or Sterling in for this same reason ATM. It's a risk with young Rice as well.

Ibrox right now is toxic. Dessers and Lammers are old enough and experienced enough to know what is expected. Dessers doesn't seem to get that yet, he looks like he's in shock.

If you can't hack the pressure, you can't play for Rangers. We're too soft about this, we need guys that can come in and dominate, regardless of age. That's what great Rangers players have always done & right now we need greats. Better to suss them out quickly.

Every elite footballer with a long career either starts cutting weight or even goes vegan in their thirties. The elite guys like Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Giggs, Modric and Busquets were all slim, borderline skinny by the time they reached their mid thirties. Ripped, sure, but they were not eating a lot of calories like they used to. The amount of eating that Tav, Jack and Souttar must do to maintain their size is daft for a footballer. There's no need for it whatsoever.

Too quickly at times though

Love Tav but the fact we still have him as our captain and first and only real choice RB is criminal. I’ve been saying it for ages now, he should have been phased out 2 seasons ago.

Here we are, 23/24 season and he is the only option and we have nothing to replace him, same as last season. This team will never transition properly, win trophies on a regular basis and move forward until Goldson, Tav and Borna are all replaced by younger, better players. What’s the plan for 23.24? Same back 3 with Souter or Davies thrown in.

It’s absolutely diabolical and it’s why we are in the state we are in today. Beale spent a fortune and never addressed the biggest weakness in our side. That will be his downfall.

He’s done. Just like the manager.

Tav isn’t the only option though is he? We have signed Sterling as back up & also still have Adam Devine.

Yes mate, I’m well aware of that but I've seen nothing to suggest either of those players are anywhere near the level to push him for his place, never mind replace him.

Simply a poor back up and a development player. We have regressed in terms of player quality as the likes of Tav age and slow down, it’s natural and very predictable.

Edit to add:,homest question, do you think Yilmaz will replace Borna? He cost us £3.5M if I remember correctly. Goldson hawked himself around the EPL for a few months, got nothing so signed a contract with us.

We have failed to develop and transition the team.

When Patterson was coming through, many of us were saying it was almost time to have him take the role in the long term.

Here we are. Tav is still the main man and Patterson has been playing in the EPL for two years. Mental.

He needs to lean up. I argued this with someone on here in pre-season when I said Tav was too built now - fast players cannot carry too much muscle because the trade-off is endurance

There's a delicate balance and he's gone over it - you can see late into games his energy drops. The misplaced passes, poor crosses etc tell you that.

No they don't, teams take throw ins when they have a man in space etc and they want to attack. They don't just stop for a player to make a 30 yard run to get the ball while the opposition get back in to position and shape.
This is also true
