The art of taking the ball round the keeper and scoring

Yep was raging at Cerny in Athens when he bottled it and shot from distance, wasn’t even on target. If you try to round them they could foul you, give away a penalty, sent off, seems to be a dying art, Iggy was superb last night, it’s his second touch to stop the ball going wide which made the goal a certainty.

Not often as much space between defender/keeper for through balls these days, plus keepers are generally better.

I do agree that when the opportunity arises, it’s seldom taken. Morelos v Livy was a peach.

Was pleased to see the big man take the ball past the keeper last night.
I know goalies must have a bit of basic footballing ability these days with the amount of times they have the ball at their feet, but surely any half decent forward or midfielder would fancy his chances of dribbling round the keeper.
Unless he’s Dessers.

Gazza scored a cracker at home to Hearts. Also Van Vossen away to Killie

Most long shots these days go about 50 yards high of the bar.
I suppose it goes that if the coaches don't use the tactics they won't train them.

I've wondered if the ball construction or material could have affected it but it doesn't strike me as something the manufacturers would want to design out. Surely it's great advertising for their ball to see it travel through the air for 30 yards into the top corner.

There was a BBC article recently that laid out the stats and it was very clear reduction.

Was shouting at Igamane to stick it in the empty net yesterday. Seemed to wait for the lad to get back just so he could smash it past him

I have huge faith in his ability to round a keeper successfully 9 times out of ten.

I am so glad I grew up in my teens watching him. Back to his PSV days when you only really got a glimpse on Eurosport highlights or ITV champions league highlights back when it was the smaller competition played only on a Wednesday. Even after his first bad injury he was still an amazing player but for that few years he was unbelievable.

Not seen very much these days.

Back in the day it was very common and I remember Mccoist doing a cracker against Paddy Bonnar at the midden.

Most players look to shoot now when in that position, it’s like a dying art you could say.

I’m a fan of the taking the ball round the keeper:)
I was taught/coached not to, if I had the option.
If I can get my shot away early, take it.
Why would you give the keeper the opportunity to influence your game or give himself a chance of being lucky.
I’m the same age as McCoist so it’s not knew coaching.
Also, the guy coaching me was a Scotland international.
