The best of the rest - players in Scotland

A lot of times these topics devolve into “we should sign him” vs “he’s shite” but feels like a year without too many standouts from other teams this season. The lad Bowie for Hibs looked good at the weekend but his stats aren’t inspiring aside from that. Who would you say is the best player outside of us and them? Miller? Murray? And who else do you rate, even if you don’t think they’re good enough for us?

Miller and Cameron are the best 2.

There's not much that would improve our, already weak, team.

Formerly playing in Scotland, I'd say Doig, Johnson, Souttar (albeit currently injured) would all make us better next season.

No idea of their availability to be fair.

Miller and Cameron are the only two non OF players who would have a good chance of making it here.

Aberdeen - Keskinen - thought he was great yesterday
Celtic - Greg Taylor B-)
Dundee - Mulligan - excluding Lyall due to him signing already. Mulligan big physical player.
DU - Dalby - good record in front of goal and good movement
Hearts - Baningime - good in No6 role (I'd still take Shankland on a free)
Hibs - Chris Cadden - great delivery from the left which we dont have since Borna lefy
Killie - Bobby Wales - young player out of contract I think
M'well - Lennon Miller - son played against him at pro-youth and was a stand out even back then. Done really well since getting 1st team football.
Ross County - Jordan White - big blue nose and is different to the strikers we have just now
St Johnstone - Fisher - great performance vs Celtic the other week
St Mirren - Olusanya - love pasta

Bowie deffo one to watch, had a long term injury, still isn’t fully fit yet either, only player I’ve seen ragdoll Carter Vickers

Lennon miller is the one stand out who I think makes our first team. Cameron will be a decent squad option next year. Apart from that there is no real consistent contenders this season for me.

Among the many things we need to get better at is building a squad capable of dealing with teams in our league and in Europe. There are surely players available who may or may not be right for Europe but can mprove us in the league. Fit, strong, aggressive and competent - the type who will not be bullied by anyone.

Topi Keskinen from Aberdeen is a player with good potential I reckon, I may be wrong, but I’d buy that boy.

Couldn’t believe Hibs signed McGrath if that’s how it’s spelled correctly.

When fit Mitov is best goalkeeper in country i also think Penrice and the Dundee United striker on loan is good.

2 older players in the league imo would do a job for Rangers Martin Boyle and Simon Murray.

Signed the best young one imo In Cameron, Lennon Miller who i also rate probably goes on to a bigger league now.

Josh Mulligan and Lawrence Shankland both available on free's this summer are moves I'd consider. If Greg Taylor played for anyone other than them he'd be another no brainer signing. Lennon Miller is head and shoulders biggest prospect in Scottish football but would likely be outwith our budget unless we made the champions league.

These threads always seem to end up in endless replies that totally discount the possibility that Rangers could improve the player.

The amount of posters who still think we should be signing squad players or back up players or 3rd choice players is absolutely mental.
It's the attitude that has us needing a clear out every season.
Our aim should be to have a fit hungry squad competing against each other for a jersey and allowing for rotation.
The days of having inferior players hanging around until the better players inevitably get injured are long gone.

Similar kind of thing just different wording, no?

No completely different.
If someone is not good enough to challenge for a start there is no point whatsoever in signing him. Bringing in 'squad players', or 'as back up', simply means they are not good enough.
(I accept we might have a different understanding of the term 'squad player.'
Obvious exception being young inexperienced players who we expect to improve to the required level.

Every successful Rangers team has had squad players or utility men.

We signed Fraser Wishart when we were the biggest, richest club in Britain in 1993.

Largely disagree

Even looking at the 55 squad we had plenty of squad players. Best squad depth we’d had in years so no surprise we actually won something.

Guys like Jack Simpson, Scott Wright, Brandon Barker, Zungu, Itten, Stewart, and even Defoe that season. Not exactly challenging for starts but ready to come in when required.
