The Gherald reporting that the Peasants could be granted an automatic Champions League place every season

Yes it was, who do you think is behind it all? Good old Liewell of course, I wouldn’t rubbish it just yet.
They’ll do anything to keep financially in front of us.

I'm sure THEY will, but I'm not sure even Liewell offering weekly Gammys to Ceferin would get this proposal over the line.

Sponsors want the biggest and high-profile clubs and players in the world in the competition. Not diddy clubs from shite leagues who happened to win an older version of the trophy in a completely different competitive format 50 years ago as a token gesture.

The top 5 leagues want the places guaranteed for those leagues only. It may mean that previous winners outwith those 5 countries get an easier route through the qualifiers, but no more than that.
22 clubs have won the CL/EC. Do you think that Spurs,Arsenal, Citeh,PSG,Napoli,Roma,Monaco etc will allow clubs from small TV nations to advance ?
It's all about the big 5 carving everything up to keep the cash.

I would think that this is based on European Club Associations discussions on CL & EL format post 2024.

Remember that there is one large piece of “Scottish “ shit has got himself into a place of influence within UEFA. No smoke etc

So about 24 of the 32 spots are pre determined every season?

Nonsense Timmy pandering by the Scottish media

22 past winners going by this list.

I would have thought teams still needed to win their respective leagues and it would just mean they didn't have to play qualifiers if they did, but surely they're not going to invite clubs like Aston Villa and Forest into it every year as standard?

This is still based on finishing your domestic season in a CL league position. Even then its unworkable in terms of planning the qualifiers.

Fake News.

10 years time you wont have anyone from outwith 5 league playing in the thing at all anyway.

This was first proposed around 1992 or 1993 and, not surprisingly, the tims were all for it back then. It won't happen. How can you justify an automatic entry for something that happened over 50 years ago? Ridiculous timmy porn.

I never read the article but I works imagine you would need to qualify for the champions league via your own league first, then if you've win it before you wouldnt have to play qualifiers.

Apparently, UEFA want to change the Champions League and clubs that have won the trophy before could be given a automatic spot. Utterly horrific, if true.
So Notts Forest And Aston Villa would qualify?

Can’t see this ever happening, but if it did it would likely be a small number of places allocated to teams who have not qualified but won the competition multiple times.

The last time this came up the likes of AC Milan were touted for example. Not teams who once won the European Cup 50-odd years ago and who get scudded senseless every season when they do qualify.

That's why the Lying Japanese moved away from the SFA committees to push for this....Doncaster spoek about it a couple of years ago.

On that basis, it is only reasonable that Lawell, who seems to be very influential at the SFA should be proposing that Vale of Leven are automatically given a place in the Scottish Cup.

But they were vice winners in the 1970 final as well when Feyenoord beat them 2 v 1. Surely should allow them to avoid the group stages and go straight into the last 16!

A daft story made up by (more than likely) a 19th Century Terrorist reporter to give other 19th Century Terrorists something to chugg over because the had no negative Rangers stories for them to chugg over.

It must also be pointed out that the old-style European Cup bears no relation at all to the modern Champions League.

Linfield were quarter-finalists the year Celtic fluked their win. No best of the best in those days.

The teams they beat on the way to the final is laughable!

The stellar names they put out were Zurich, Nantes, Vojvodina and Dukla Prague. A feat so impressive we should all get a national holiday.

..and they won the final with an offside goal. Retrospective VAR??

Only teams that won it in colour are eligible when the tramps won it they only had black and white tv it was that long ago I smell BS.

That was my take on it as well, fkn scary if this ever was to happen

This is very dubious. The rhats would get an automatic place and the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, Man City and PSG would not. If it went ahead there would no doubt be a breakaway competition.

They got knocked out in the first round a couple of months after winning it, first team to manage that feat as well.

What a nonsense story :))

It's a noncense article. The best anyone can actually hope for is individual club co-efficients being used to determine qualification as opposed to accumulated Country co-efficient.

If you even for a second think this mob will get in,then am afraid you are just fucking delusional as timmy .

There is absolutely no chance the big teams would allow this, no chance,, if this came to pass, there would be a break away from the big teams

Would be the end of Scottish football if the yahoos were given an automatic place not on merit but based on what happened 52 years ago.

Handing one side a guaranteed £25-30 million advantage over every other team before a ball is kicked then you might as well just turn out her lights on the SPFL and call it quits.

It actually suggests that the wildcard spots would go to "...clubs of historical importance in European football." and that they meet that criteria because of being "... the first British club to win the European Cup in 1967 ..."

It doesn't say that every club who had ever won the competition would get one, or that winning it was the only was to be "of historical importance in European football".

It's never going to happen anyway but its worth actually discussing the proposal itself, rather than an incorrect interpretation of it.
