The serious misrepresentation of Celtic FC, The Herald newspaper today made the following apology to the Club.

“On our front page promotion for a column on Saturday, we stated 'Celtic cutting non-playing staff’s money shows how far football has lost its soul'.

"We are happy to clarify that Celtic have not cut any non-playing staff’s money. All staff on the Government’s job retention scheme are having their salaries paid in full by Celtic. We apologise to Celtic for our erro

When ‘paid in full’ actually means the the Government pay 80% and they pay the other 20%.

Aye that makes perfect sense we are using the retention scheme but paying staff 100% of their wages what's the point in using the scheme then mentally challenged bastard's

Its either one or the other, they cant be on the scheme while being paid in full by celtic unless they are getting 180% of their salary.

They are having their wages paid in full by Celtic...

... who in turn will be reimbursed for paying their staff by the Uk Gov, to the tune of 80%

Wildly misleading. Celtc FC and truth, like oil and water.

So they are paying 20% of their staff's wages, preserving their pyoor mullions in the bank.
Very moral.
Absolutely, no morals at all.
Don’t get me wrong, purely as a business decision it’s a no brainer. This government scheme is open to abuse, companies should be made to prove they can’t afford to pay their employees first

So what about staff that earn more than 2.5k per month?

Their salaries are topped up to the full amount by Celtic.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about. The employees on the scheme are getting a full salary, not 80% or a max of £2.5k.

If the Herald had said something similar about Rangers I'd expect us to question it.

Someone should complain to them.
Salaries aren't being paid in full by celtic.
Celtic are topping up the 80% paid by the government.

So they still furloughed them and are paying only 20% of their wages with the rest being paid for by the Government and Country they despise, I'm glad they cleared that all up.

These cnuts are unreal. Couldn’t mark their necks with a blow torch!

As I said on another thread begs the question why we are not doing the same unpalatable as it is. They are gaining another financial advantage by having 80% of the non playing staffs wages paid for them.

I’m not exactly sure how the furlough works, but I assume the government pays 80% of the salary to the company, which then pays it to the member of staff, in this case along with the other 20%. Therefore, celtic, via one payment of 100%, are paying the salaries in full.

That interpretation is a nonsense, imo, but could be seen to be technically correct.

Paid in full by Celtic which they then claim 80% back through the Gov retention scheme. So the taxpayer is paying the majority of the wage for non-playing staff.

What the %^*&? Liverpool are being slaughtered down south for doing exactly this. Celtic have absolutely no need to be using a government scheme to pay their staff when they have "millions in the bank" and are still paying their players a full wage.

A vile club and a vile external PR consultancy in Hollicom

Taking 80% from Govt

The Herald getting phuck all right as that article appears the mentally challengeds are paying the full wage and that’s wrong

Standard of journalism is appalling. They can’t get the basics right.

So it’s alright for this “Uber rich” football club to have society pay 80% of its staff’s wages? The apology is incorrect as well, Celtic are not paying their staff “in full”, they’re paying them to the extent the government won’t.

The fuss is about the Herald stating that Celtic were paying their staff wages in full, which would suggest to any right thinking person, that they were paying 100% of their staff wages, not just topping up the government payment by 20%.

Very much smoke and mirrors here.

Reads like they are paying the full 100% of their employees wages themselves.

A cynic would say it was all intentional.

Is this on the back of that article criticising them for abandoning their "socialist" principles?

The fhilth have a zero tolerance policy as far as P.R. is concerned,No dignified silence from the cesspit.

Massive lie. Celtic are NOT paying their staff100%. The UK government are paying 80%. Lying cvnts.

People on furlough are not allowed to work afaik.

But I never knew companies could "top up" the remaining 20% of salaries on top of the Government's 80%.

Any other companies doing this?

Edit... i should say my work certainly aren't topping up.
