The Juniors - 24/25 Season

Medda's lowly league position belied their effort & organisation at Dunterlie. Lie lead early through Roulston (turning into a goal machine) but in an open game, the visitors deservedly fought back to parity before h/t.
McGuigan's 25yrd thunderbolt restored Lie's lead, but the fierce, fair battle continued till f/t, despite substitute Anson nodding a 3rd for the home side. If Medda compete like this, they'll be fine. Lie stay top, but face Bankies & Beith in cups next:oops:

If it weren't for the well documented financial concerns, the disquiet amongst the diehards would be starting to become more vocal.

Last week Maxwell had some verbals with an old curmudgeon in the enclosure after Pollok conceded a penalty in first half stoppage time.
That's the crux. See if folk got involved and helped support the fundraising efforts and club activities instead of the expectations and moaning we would be in better shape.

I've been very very surprised the lack of constructive engagement from the wider support given the size of it. The people running the Club have been honest and they inherited a big complicated challenge due to the dodgy likes of St Cadocs and Johnstone Borough.

Certainly a few folk on the Pollok forum looking down the table and starting to get worried. Pollok have only taken 4 points from their last 6 league games, but other sides are doing even worse with Hurlford and Shotts only taking 2 points.
Lok will be fine longer term. That's a good young squad and all teams hit difficulties. Only 9 league games played by the turn of the year and plenty cup action plus still in with a shout of the Junior Cup.

I totally disagree. My issue isn't anything financial will help. You don't need a big budget to have a team that are tactically drilled and a telling style of play.

Pollok have none of that at the moment due to an ego manager. I've heard direct from a player who played last season and a current player describe Maxi as "arrogant" it's not a good look. Add that to how they look on the park it's clear they don't rate him.

Getting beat away to Talbot is no shame but it's the way in these defeats happen, no real fight, no coaching staff making big calls or looking to encourage.

Was Maxi cautioned yesterday? Wasn’t sure which of the Pollok bench was shown the yellow card.

Personally I don't think they will go down, but as with most forums the Pollok board has a mix of eternal optimists, realists and doom merchants. The latter are going into overdrive now. Someone commented further up about Maxi bringing in a couple of experienced players, if he had the funds available I know there were at least two of last year's squad that he wanted to keep but couldn't afford too.

Yes for the horrific lack of award of a clear corner at the death.

Referree was honking yesterday. Had him a few times before but he was miles off it and the far side linesman didn't offer much help.

Talbot 2 Pollok 1

Long way from being a classic but a welcome 3 points
Was on the Bothwell Arms before game
One loud mouth and general pest Tim from Northern Ireland sat at the bar then two sat across from me.
Was I just unlucky or is this a Tim pub ?
:))

Looked like it to me mate.
Seems he was. Don’t have a great view of that corner from where I stand. Only saw the ref with the yellow out.

As for the ref :( unsure if I’ve seen him before but looked as if he liked to bark at players as opposed to talking to them.

Dugout side linesman also told one of our subs to watch what he was saying and to leave the coaching to the coaches and he shouldn’t be doing any :D never heard so much rubbish from an official in ages.

A lot of refs at the level are on a huge ego trip. Yesterday's ref was no different and in the games I've seen him in previously his attitude was similar.

As for Linos? I mean if refs got their dinner money taken off them at school, were linos subjected to having their heads flushed down a toilet?

Another great result for Livingston utd 2-2 draw against Hawick. They have played 2nd and 3rd and picked up 4 out of 6 points . Not great conditions for football but both teams played well in an entertaining game and Hawick could have won it at the death but skyed a last minute penalty over the bar.

Anyone bored tomorrow around the 3 Toons can go to Winton park and the AWR play talbot in a friendly at 1pm. Fiver to get in

AWR 0 Talbot 6

Could’ve been double that tbh but a good workout and better than training for the players.

St Mirren pulled out, but Cumnock stepped in at Dunterlie. Lie, missing 4 starters, were the better side when Roulston scored early on. Nock equalized just after h/t. Lie remained sharp, had 2 correctly ruled offside & went ahead again. Dykes (my MOTM), signed from us in the summer, had a point to prove & netted a super long range 2nd equaliser. In the last quarter Nock were stronger, fitter & could have sneaked it. Overall, maybe a draw was right. Big thanks to the visitors for a super, competitive, fair friendly.

Floodlights News
Largs Thistle have been awarded a government-backed grant to install floodlighting at Barrfields.

The grant is part of the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme funded by the government and is investing over £320 million between 2021 and 2025 to level up facilities across the UK.

The award to Thistle was given after an application through the Scottish Football Association, which is committed to raising the standards of football grounds and training facilities across the country.

Work on the floodlights will start as soon as the logistics are in place and it’s hoped that the new lights could be in place by the end of January 2025.

Thistle chairman, Alistair McMaster, said, “We are delighted with the award of this grant. It is a huge boost for both the club and the town. Floodlights will mean that Barrfields will be available to ourselves and the local community throughout the year to host matches and other events. It’s an exciting development for the future and long-term sustainability of the club. We have worked closely with Largs Colts throughout this process and it is great that the youth of Largs will also benefit as a result of there being more opportunity with young Colts and Thistle players taking preference to play and train at Barrfields.

“Everyone at the club will continue to work diligently to ensure that all conditions of the award are met quickly thereby allowing work to start as soon as practical.”

Two of our best performances of the season have been against Meadow with an aggregate score of 9-2. Not sure if it says as much about them as us tbh.

Good hat trick for Robbie Young today just a few days after his granddad had passed away.

Meadow manager Ben Carson has parted ways with them after the match.

Took in Petershill v Irvine Meadow for the sake of watching a live game.

Well worth the effort with both sides serving up a decent game with the Springburn outfit showing some enterprising wide play and some nice midfield stuff thanks to a young diminutive lad in central midfield and experienced Pollok old boy (and solid bluenose) Chris Duff patroling the left side.

Some nice moves and good effort and commitment to play from both sets of lads.

The Pie and Bovril was reasonable and the old boy and nephew enjoyed the trip across the city.

Well played Peasy. Commiserations to Medda.

Paul Fee was the wee guy in midfield, my brother was sponsoring the man of the match award and Paul was well in with a shout up until Robbie Young completed his hat trick.

Try spelling it right Johnstone Burgh

My nephew was impressed by the lad Fee mate.. Enjoyed my day and was heartened to see the new pitch laid to replace the old dilapidated fives pitches. Incidentally, has there been new replacement floodlight pylons fitted recently? Might be my mind playing tricks on me as its been a while since my last visit.

Floodlights and pitch are brand new, the lights are UEFA standard, they have 3 settings and afaik that was only the middle setting that was on today. They will only be full blast for any Glasgow City european games, they footed the bill for the most of it. The new area at where thd 7s was is a great facility, it's just over half a full pitch and can be set up for 2 x 7 a side or a 9 a side. Decent size for training, and afaik Pollok have used it a few times this season.

Paul signed for us in 2023 but missed all of last season after tearing his ACL at Vale of Clyde in a pre season game.

I thought so mate. The new tarmac lip was a giveaway.

I said to my Dad and nephew that it would be for Glasgow City playing CL games on it. The surface looked excellent to play on today. I had a good idea that the lights were new too due to the fresh steel. When they came on it was like the God Particle!

Great news on the new training pitch as well.

Tremendous stuff.

And without sounding too much like an old romantic, today was the type of day that justifies artificial surfaces - both teams tried to play and it was a good advert for the First Division, especially given the teams respective placings in the table.

Largs Thistle have one of the smallest budgets but were 5th or 6th last season and chance of improving on that this season. Still in the Scottish after convincing win over Beith.

They seem capable of competing with The Burgh

What was crowd id wager 100 /150 playing on plastic doesn’t justify anything suits Glasgow city not petershill who wilb sharing with Ashfield within 2/3 years

I was meaning regarding the weather mate. Three games survived the card today and all were played on artificial surfaces.

The surface at Petershill Park for a plastic one is really good and I'm no proponent of them in a general sense.

The crowd would be around 150.

What makes you think Petershill will leave?

Great stability there at the moment. Grants for floodlights too.

Can't beat getting handed 200k for a pitch.
