The letter from Rev Stuart MacQuarrie which prompted me to stand for Club 1872

Correct. Two year term, and no more than two consecutive terms. Remove the affirmation, unless they are standing unopposed in which case it’s a de facto affirmation.

I appreciate the current directors will say they’ve extended the term because others aren’t willing to stand. But all the evidence suggests these three have made it extremely difficult to work with them, so it’s no surprise there is a lack of will from outside particularly now they've limited the size of the Board to five, because two new directors will never be able to carry anything against them.
I fully expect any new Board members will have been hand-picked by the current Board and there will be no need for an election as any other applicants will be disallowed.

I fully expect any new Board members will have been hand-picked by the current Board and there will be no need for an election as any other applicants will be disallowed.
That’s my fear, as I think I said earlier in the thread.

Schedule 3 of the articles give them such outrageously broad scope for disallowing candidates on a subjective assessment of their social media output, that it would be very easy for the current directors, with the support of the “independent adjudicator”, to bar anyone with even the slightest social media presence...and of course the ridiculous number of proposers required means that anyone looking to be elected will pretty much have to have some social media presence.

And if that doesn’t work, then they have the fall back of “one of your proposers hasn’t paid their dues...but we can’t tell you which one”. I wonder what would happen if all of Mark’s proposers wrote to C1872 giving permission for their membership payment history to be disclosed to him...

There have to be conditions candidates need to satisfy, but those conditions should be factual (e.g. certain convictions should disbar you) and transparent (e.g. if your proposers don’t meet the criteria then that should be disclosed to allow remedy).

From one who still contributes to RST / Club1872 and is a legacy member, and more importantly someone who has no affiliation with any of those involved in this drama I'd say this.

I have no idea regarding the content of the original email to Castore but If the RST wish to remain on cordial terms with the Rangers board I saw two immediate issues.

1. The communication was not approved by all board members.
2. Any communication to Castore, to preserve the relationship with Rangers should have been directed via Stewart Robertson.

In this respect. I'm in total agreement with Stuart McQuarrie (SM). As mentioned I don't have any idea of how contentious the email was.

With regard to SM and his informal discussion with Stewart Robertson, this may have felt to RST as a surreptitious move by a singular director, behind the backs of those RST directors up in arms.

It appears that some egos have been put out of joint.

The further email asking Stewart Robertson if this was a formal complaint by Rangers and involving a lawyer to review the Articles of Association only fueled the fire. Whilst, I appreciate the need for Corporate Governance my opinion is that this could and should have been possible to resolve amicably.

As I said, I know none of the actors in this sitcom, but I feel it is just an embarrassment all round. Is it any wonder, the Rangers Board are reticent about fan involvement?

One last point. There have been a flux of resignations from RST and it is unusual to have smoke without fire. As an RST contributor, since it started I have been underwhelmed by the lack of information but have steadfastly assumed that it is the correct vehicle for introducing financial involvement from supporters beside season tickets.

I will be watching more carefully in future, particularly if potential candidates are being "screened" to validate involvement. Sounds like the wide ranging responsibilities of existing Directors, makes it a closed shop.

ffs, thats damning. When are they announcing the candidates for the election?
Doesn't look like there will be any election until the three main directors have a chance to run the rule over the candidates. Looks like a closed shop at the moment. This is the reason I never joined club 1872. If memory serves me rite, was there not a problem before with people controlling the board , and taking decisions on their own, and in doing so making a mockery of having a board. The board has to be enlarged, to stop small cliques banding together, and not allowing general members from the floor, to appoint a consensus of the people who provide the funds. It looks, and sounds, like a dictatorship. Rev Mac Quarrie, is well out of it. A full new board of at least nine people needs to be appointed. This needs to be done in a fair way, with no one who is a member of club 1872 being barred from standing, and certainly not by people who are trying to protect their own position.

Clearly there's a need to stop this group of 3 controlling Club 1872 for the foreseeable.

Club 1872 needs to be there to represent their membership but also the fans. Especially given the current attacks.

If the issues have been highlighted to this group and they're not willing to stand down, then we need to get them removed either by election or EGM and if that's prevented through legal means.

Seeing as James Blair was involved at the start when the Club 1872 constitution was being constructed, does anyone know his current thoughts are on this?

With the news of the Club selling shares direct to fans, what's people's thoughts on Club 1872 going forward?

It would appear that the King / Club 1872 buying shares scheme will never get off the ground as it was a distant prospect beforehand.

The plan to purchase Dave King’s shares looks extremely unlikely to me. The have a target of 20,000 “legacy donations” to fund this. Their website gives a running total of the numbers who have signed up. Last Wednesday when Rev. MacQuarrie’s letter was posted on here the number was 1,571, today that number is 1,556. 20,000 looks a pretty forlorn hope.

They still hold a significant shareholding purchased with fans money. We can’t just let it disappear into the background. The directors need to be accountable

If the directors of C1872 have any kind of nous, they will set up a vehicle for people to proxy votes from the new share issue to them. Zero cost to the shareholders, minimal costs to C1872, massive increase in vote power.

There are also guys like @Hillheadbear who have expressed an interest in investing in fan led initiatives, I think something along the lines of that may be enough to allow him to buy in; purchasing and keeping his own shares, but allying them with other holders to increase their power. Helps to achieve the goal of 25% + 1 and lets people be involved with their own holdings. Obviously a fair and transparent means of voting on how C1872 would vote would be required, but on a pro rata basis this is workable.

As a former RST & Rangers First member, I wanted no part of Club1872 when it was formed.

Sadly it has become all that I thought it would.

I stopped my dd when i lost my job in october. Felt bad , i now habe a job .i wont be re newing untill i have faith on who is running it again. I k ow i can trust

Due to this thread and being a subscriber to C1872, I posted that I was emailing and asking for a copy of the rules and/or constitution. I sent that email last Wednesday evening.

Whilst I appreciate the voluntary nature of the staff members availability, I still, at this time, haven’t received any response to my request.

I intend to give them until the start of next week before I follow up with another email. That will also lead me to cancel my DD until I have access to the requested documents and any decision that’s required on moving forward.

Has anyone else requested the same as above?

As much as I have criticised the current Directors, and as discourteous as it is for them not to response to you for 6 days, you do have access to these documents. They are hosted on the C1872 website.

This reads like a boolin' club committee. Which would be fine if it wasn't for the hard earned cash of many bears that they essentially control.

I was all for the Legacy, but after reading the letter from rev. McQuarrie I'll just use my legacy payments to pay into Rangers.

I sent an email asking a question last Thursday, no reply has been received.

I hope we do get some good candidates standing and actually have an election. I don't know anyone involved but it does appear that their are too many personal agendas on the go in Club 1872. The new directors will have to be strong and it might take a couple of elections to get a more balanced board.

That's the three candidates announced for the c1872 elections:

George Hoggan

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

I have been a Rangers fan all my life and have attended matches both home and away for over 50 years.

I have held various positions in Supporters Clubs. For the past 20 years I have been the Club Treasurer of the Denny and District RSC and during this period our club has grown dramatically.

I am a retired Production Manager, having worked for the one company for over 50 years. I would bring my professional experience to the Club 1872 board to build on the already positive relationships I have with other Club 1872 volunteers.

I have been active in Club 1872 working groups as a volunteer for three years and during the campaign to raise and invest £1m into Rangers I took on the role of visiting and encouraging other RSCs to join Club 1872, as well as encouraging individual members to join. At present I am involved in preparing for the next stage of the legacy campaign, with specific focus on RSC engagement which will launch when pandemic restrictions are lifted.

My hobbies are Rangers (although that’s a bit unfair as it’s a way of life) and gardening, and I am active in my local Church of Scotland. I also Volunteer with the NHS, so I have a good understanding of the commitment that is required in voluntary roles. As a retired person I have time to dedicate to Club 1872 and having done so as a working group member for some time now, I believe I am well placed to progress to the board with a good understanding of how the organisation functions and how crucial it is to keep building on its foundations.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

We all remember what happened to the Rangers Football Club in 2012 and we, as a Rangers Supporters Club, contributed to the fighting fund. In 2014 our RSC decided that we had to do what we could to counteract the gross mismanagement that our football club was subjected to. I was very vocal at this time and led a move to stop both our RSC and our members from renewing their season tickets. Denny and District RSC also joined the RST at this time. We renewed our individual and club season tickets as soon as Dave King ousted the dysfunctional board .

I think we all feel the hurt when we listen to opposing fans sing “You let your club die”. It hurts because it was almost true. We must never again be caught in this position where we as supporters could only stand and watch as our club that we love was pillaged.

Our present board may be acceptable to most of us but who is to say this will always be the case and history will not repeat itself? The only way we can prevent this from happening is to ensure that we, as supporters have a say in the crucial decisions that our football club makes.

Success on the field should not mean a complacent support. In my opinion, the only way to avoid this is to build up our shareholding through Club 1872. We owe this to our children and grandchildren. I see Club 1872 as the way forward. We have a voice which no can longer be ignored.

James Irvine

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

After qualifying in Scotland I moved to London in 1991, qualified as an English solicitor and became a partner in one of the leading City of London litigation practices specialising in complex international litigation and arbitration. Acting solely for a corporate client base from 1991 to 2017 I litigated cases around the world in over 20 jurisdictions, principally in the United States but also in various European countries as well as Asia and parts of Africa. Initially I specialised in Intellectual Property litigation involving patents, copyrights and trademarks but later my practise broadened to include anti-trust litigation and disputes related to corporate transactions including fund management, securities and financial services as well as complex international fraud.

I was regularly listed in the industry magazines as a Leading Individual in both Intellectual Property litigation and complex corporate and trust disputes. During this period I was involved in many seminal legal cases and a list of such cases is available if required.

Having retired from private practise in 2017, I now operate a consultancy business, head the Investment Committee for a leading international litigation funder and, in my capacity as a consultant, act as General Counsel for a high tech company which operates mostly in the United States.

I believe that the skills and experience I have built up during my career can be of great assistance to Club 1872 at a pivotal time, where it is looking to grow into the largest shareholder in Rangers. The current board has done an incredible job of putting the organisation in a position to achieve this milestone which, in my opinion, is vital to securing the long-term future of Rangers Football Club. My hope would be that I can assist them in taking the next steps in that process.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

From a Rangers supporting family. My great uncle, Neil McKinnon, played for the club in the post war years and was I believe understudy to Willie Waddell. I have supported the club since a boy and first attended a match at Ibrox in 1967 against Hearts when Alex Ferguson was on the scoresheet.

Played at Ibrox in 1976 for Queen of the South reserves in a 7-1 defeat and was lucky enough to score their only goal.

My oldest school friend from my time at Irvine Royal Academy is Dr Paul Jackson who was for many years the club doctor and still retains an association with the club.

In a more professional capacity, in recent times I had the privilege to advise, pro bono, the Rangers Supporters Trust in relation to its legal fight to prevent Ibrox Stadium being used as a security in return for loans from Mike Ashley. Also I advised the RST generally in relation to other matters arising out of the administration of the club and am a life member of Club 1872. During this time I met and worked with Dave King and Walter Smith.

Having been part of the efforts to protect the club at that time, I am convinced of the need for supporters to retain a major shareholding in Rangers. It is essential for the long-term stability and prosperity of Rangers that supporters are never again in a position where they have no meaningful say in the key decisions affecting the club. Club 1872 has a wonderful opportunity to secure the club for generations to come and I believe I can assist the current board in making that a reality.

Malcolm Murray

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

I have skills, knowledge and experience of over 35 years in finance, investment, marketing, football, corporate governance and boardrooms. I was one of the biggest and most successful investors in the UK and an early pioneer of institutional corporate governance. I have been a constructive and innovative shareholder in many recovery and turnaround situations (examples on request). In 1991 I bought 26% of Manchester United for £7 million and worked closely with the board to build the brand and stadium, and fans were invited to invest. As chairman, I led the floatation of Rangers on the LSE (AIM), bringing in blue chip institutions and fans. I fought a lone battle against people who did not have the clubs’ best interest at heart. I was also chairman of MWB business exchange, and successfully led it to be taken over by IWG, making all shareholders happy with significant returns.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I believe I can help grow the membership, cashflow and install high levels of corporate governance and transparency, which will be a beacon for other clubs to follow and for FAs to admire. I have spent a lot of the last nine years trying to bring the people that hurt Rangers to justice. This has been both costly and dangerous. I have the highest level of referees available and influential contacts in finance, football, media and politics- which will be used to Club 72’s advantage.

Malky Murray, I remember him from when he was involved from before, didn't he fall out with Green and the Spivs? What's the the opinion on here of him Bears.

I'm looking for advice on who should get my vote. Someone who will challenge the incumbents preferably.

Ex Chairman, filmed hammed after a xmas party by stockbridge. Was very unbecoming of the Chairman to be seen in such a state IMO.

How many slots are up for grabs?

Malcolm Murray makes a re-appearance. Can't recall too much of his tenure other than the Spivs setting him up with a video of him looking drunk if I remember correctly. Was there talk of a medical condition that may have had a part to play in that?

Quite a wide range of experience across the 3 candidates.

Interesting Murray should make an appearance. I was never really a fan of him whatsoever.

C1872 need people with literally no tie in to previous bad experiences of anything to do with Rangers even if it's unfortunate for that person that they were trying to do right before.

Two places,to take the board up to five,I think.
Three already on it currently.
Used to be seven but will run with five now by the looks of things.

I think Murray is tainted by his last spell, video of him not being able to stand through drinking, recorded calls with Ahmed, etc.

George seems too in with the bricks as well so I think James will be the only one getting my vote.

I assume George Hoggan is the regular from C1872 meetings who came across as a sensible decent punter.
Irvine I think is the punter who had the idea for some complex court case to get rid of the Spivs but then went AWOL
