The mhank support at Ibrox in the 80s

We used to get 19k tickets behind the goal and 2 sections on there main stand

Those were fabulous days out.

Don’t get me wrong, their shitehole midden was a disgrace, but giving the papes a right good gubbing in their own piggery sty took some beating :))

Late 70s/early 80s our official allocation there was around 24k

When we rebuilt Ibrox their allocation dropped quite a bit but was still around the 11k/12k that been the Broomloan, West Enclosure and part of the Main stand 1/3?

Yes they got a section of the Govan a couple of times - May 83 was one of those games

so there was of course an agreement somewhere between the clubs

Also have to remember prior to 1981 League gates were shared between clubs

1989/90 was the 1st full season that it only the Broomloan for them and traditional Rangers end there for us after the 1st game at there in August we still had the main stand section

7500 for them nearly 20k for us which more or less stayed until 1994

I've seen this pop up before.
I'm sure it was something to do with them chasing the title so were given a bigger allocation for this game.
Pretty sure they messed it up and lost out to Dundee utd at the end.
I'm sure someone with more Google skills than me will look it up.

For the record, we used to get part of their main stand regularly.
We also used to get part of their jungle until the early 70s

We also used to get half the Jungle - last game we had a section in there about 79/80?

Also worth reminding people - you could go into the Celtic Pools office in the city centre and buy tickets for any area of the ground including the Rangers areas.
Correct Mark. Remember as a wee bear cub going into our ticket office with my old man (sold out) only to drive to the scumhut and get tickets for the Rangers end there.

Incidentally the game would have been the 2-1 game with Alex Miller’s screamer in the last minute.

When I started attending these games we used to get up to about the 18 yard line in both the main stand and the jungle.
They got similar at Ibrox. They got up to the 18 yard line of the main stand but, for what I believe were segregation issues, they got up to the tunnel in the enclosure but none of the centenary stand - think number wise it was about the same.
Hard to believe now but the clubs did actually work together back then. In public they were enemies but in the boardroom they seemed to grudgingly acknowledge that they needed each other - as with all things involving Timothy it could never last.

After they upgraded the piggery they gradually cut our allocation and stuck us over in a corner. I've always thought that straight after we returned to the top division after our banishment we should have cut their allocation and put them into the corner where they're now seated.

I remember one game against them I was in the Main Stand above the West Enclosure ,went for a piss at H/T and I was side by side pissing alongside a mentally challenged.

Surreal experience.

We used to get 18,000 at the Piggery but I swear there were 25,000 crammed in there.
We got 24,000 when we sold initial amount of 21,000 I think and they opened the segregated area of the Rangers end next to the jungle.

We got a huge allocation at parkhead as well to be fair.

Lets not be fair and stick to reality.

We got part of the filth's main stand and part of the jungle into the 1970s,

We definitely were in the jungle in the GC final of Aug 76. Cant remember if we were there on the first game of the season proper in the September (2-2)

After that until the cesspit was revamped, we had the Rangers end and part of the Main Stand, and gradually that was phased out.

As well as the full Broomloan, they were also given the West Enclosure, part of the Main Stand and a section in the lower and upper Govan Stand.

Why on earth did we give them such a high percentage of our 44,000 capacity stadium?
We were pish and they bought tickets for the Govan that we struggled to sell.

1982 - 83 season went to last game of season with Aberdeen , Celtic & Dundee Utd all in contention.
Celtic beat us 4-2 at Ibrox but Dundee Utd clinched the league by beating Dundee.

last time i can remember being in the jungle for a game against that shower, was the game they had straw covering the pitch for frost protection, and their groundstaff were still clearing it when the bears were coming into the ground,, cue old mcdonalds farm getting an airing, along side the obligatory ,parkheads a piggery

Last time I remember conditions as you recall might well be Jan 77.

Always remember wee scumbag Doyle, ever the livewire, warming/scamming up at the Rangers end before kick off.

They think they wind us up a'la Sniffiths and the mong.

They ust don't get it.

We actually got the full jungle in the last official game played at the piggery (Scottish cup final) hey couldn’t handle this fact and had hastily arranged a friendly game to stop the bragging rights that we were going to be the last team singing the sash in the jungle before they dropped the cesspool to the ground
Bitter pricks.

They only got a section of the Govan on a couple of occasions.
The area at the tunnel with them in the West enclosure was wild at times. better now, less of them!

The last time we were in their main stand for a league game was August 89.The next game at the shit tip when Spackman scored we just had the traditional Rangers end.

I'll take your word for that bud.

It's not jibing with me.

However, the hype surrounding the Aug 89 fixture sort of took care of itself.

I remember being in there main stand a couple times with my old ma early 80,s if i remember was prob about a quarter of it maybe less.

We had it in 1989 for Mo Johnstons first game against them.I was in it

So was I.

I remember the line of stewards and police separating you from them on the way back down the stairs, they were foaming at the mouth even more than normal. Proper rabid.

Funniest memory from that day was the older bear behind me wearing a Rangers coach jacket, as the abuse came over he stood calmly loudly proclaiming "No schools ya bassas, no schools" :D

If Johnston had took one of those good chances he had in the second half all hell would've broke loose I reckon.

Yes. I was at the piggery that night we won 3-1. I was in our end and remember looking down seeing the bears giving it laldy in the jungle. All 3 goals from defenders,Sandy ,Bomber and Alex Miller.

In the 80s we got 1 end and part of their main stand, their capacity was nearly 68,000 and probably went well over it when we visited, they got 4 stands/parts of our ground at a vastly reduced capacity.

They had a capacity of 68k and us 44k, is that right? Seems a huge difference, why is that? Take it we were all seated except enclosure? Where they all standing? It was before my time.

As an aside does anyone have a timeline of Ibrox capacity through the years and the developments that changed the capacity i.e.
1998: filled the corners took us to 50,000+
XXXX: dropped the pitch adding Y seats.

Had a look online but couldn’t see anything, would be interesting to see the capacity through the years and the changes that brought it about.

I used to stand in the West Enclosure as a wee boy against them with my Dad and 2 Uncles who were bouncers and built like tanks. They refused to move for them. I was too young to shite myself.

Parkhead was all terracing apart from their main stand, we were all seated apart from the east and west enclosure.

I’ve saw a few posts mention us giving them the Govan due to us being crap etc etc. We still gave them a disproportionately high number of tickets in the late 80s, early 90s when Ibrox was bursting at the seams every other week, waiting lists for season tickets and the like, they still got the west enclosure and part of the main stand, as well as the Broomie obviously.

We also used to get half the Jungle - last game we had a section in there about 79/80?

Also worth reminding people - you could go into the Celtic Pools office in the city centre and buy tickets for any area of the ground including the Rangers areas.
And the Social Club on London Road.

4 games they had a small section of Govan both Front and Rear

1st January 83
14th May 83
5th November 83 - we sent tickets on the Friday (day before game) to Celtic
21st April 84

I would suggest that the last time we were allocated a section of the Jungle was a good few years prior to 1979. It was in 1979 that they won the League against us at the end of the season, we were definitely not in the Jungle that day, it would have been carnage. I started going to League games there in 76. I can’t remember seeing any Rangers fans in the Jungle although I can recall getting about 20% of their Main Stand well into the 80’s.

The last time we had the jungle was around 1975 or early 76.
Definitely not as late as the 79 game.

1989/90 they only got the Broomloan

Previous season they still had the West Enclosure not sure if they had the Main Stand that season may be someone can confirm

Bobby Williamson scored the winner that day in 1984 and yeah they had small section of the Govan

I don’t remember them getting the Govan!? The Scottish semi when huistra got sent off they had Broomloan and Govan as it was a “neutral” venue

When they got the full Broomloan, west enclosure, main stand and Govan stand, it was during a period where we were getting very very poor attendance's, that was the reason they got part of the Govan as that was never recognised as an area of Ibrox for them, they just bought up tickets for it as we weren't selling out our allocation. This only happened about 6 or 7 times and it was the early 80s

Rubbish , our crowds have been bigger than there’s in every decade and thats even when they done nine in a row.

The sections in the Govan was a one off for a game they had a chance of winning the league and we were at our lowest. Loads of them turned up without tickets.

As well as our huge allocation in our end we had a fairly big section of their main stand.

They definitely had GF1 and GR1 for a few seasons remember being at the games sitting in the Govan not far from them.
I am pretty sure it changed when Souness arrived
