The pitch tomorrow

With all the constant rain that's forecast for tomorrow, will the pitch hold up? Its looked a bit patchy recently. Just hope it allows us to play football and not become a leveller.

There was a load of turf during the week at the side of the pitch, not anywhere near enough to relay the pitch, but perhaps being used to patch up the worst bits,Have said for years that there should be a part of the training ground used to grow decent quality grass and nobody allowed to play on it.
Like a nursery for our own pitch and when our pitch requires serious attention like now, it would only be a matter of lifting the turf into rolls and relaying the pitch at no cost, rather than buy the grass in.

The pitch has been pretty poor of late due to the number of games that have been played on it since the winter break and the amount of rain that has fallen. Which has hindered our more skilful players.

But that would cost more time and money than just buying it from a supplier

Stadium tour yesterday morning and groundsmen cutting grass etc.We did not think playing surface looked 100%,when you consider amount of rain of late it,s understandable.Someone mentioned pitch newly laid at start of season though.

im sure we strip The turf and plant seed and new top soil at the end of every season. They usually release time lapse videos showing the progress.

Our pitch has been 1 of the best if not the best in Scotland at this time of year for years. We relaid it to much expense to 1 of the modern hybrid ones in the summer I believe.
Don't really understand why we changed from what worked for years.

I'm expecting to be pretty awful again. Worst it's been in years. By Thursday it could be pretty embarrassing.

When they talk about rain at the risk of sounding Captain obvious but isn't it covered?

What happened to that light heater thing that we used as well?

They have replaced the turf along both touchlines and brought each line in by about a yard. The linesmen now run on grass along the main stand side.

Pitch was looking terrible on Tuesday and not much better last night. Today's weather will give it another hammering and looks like it wont get much chance to recover before Thursday.

In recent years the pitch has looked good. In reality it looked better than it played. It was still a good surface but far from great. This year has been disappointing.

It was covered last week but the winds killed that plan. The lights are on it constantly and all over the pitch. Don't seem to be as effective as recent years.

Think the 5 games in 15 days killed it dead.

I'm told that we don't have enough lights?

The thing is, if you watch any stuff from the Championship in England this weekend or even League One, clubs from thef North of England who have had loads of rain - their pitches are nowhere near as bad as ours.

Something has gone very badly wrong with ours. Questions need to be asked about the planning and maintenance.

I was surprised they lifted it as it looked great last season. They introduced the hybrid to the 18 yard boxes which look not too bad. The rest is shit. Same team working on it so no doubt they will get it right in the summer. Not certain but think they are going full hybrid in the summer.

Supposedly to do with the mob who relaid the pitch in the summer. Shoddily.

So another example where we have f.ucked up. Do we just go for the cheapest option every time?

Has anyone at the club got a clue about what they are doing??

It's a sad day when team's like Motherwell have a far superior pitch to ours. Embarrassing.

How do you know we went with the cheapest option?

The same guys who got massive credit are now aresholes and the Motherwell groundstaff are the benchmark.

Every single time you relay a pitch its a gamble. Add to that the variables in the weather, the amount of games, times between games etc etc.

5 games in 15 days during a seriously wet spell took its toll.

It was shite on Boxing Day.

As I say, other clubs around the UK in areas where they have had plenty rain and no winter break have far better pitches.

My fear is that the pitch will be the same for the rest of the week as the weather is to be raining quite a bit. Our pitch just isn't right this year.

Is it really that simple how thick would u have to cut the turf so it doesn’t lift up and injure someone ? How much haulage would be required to then transport thick turf from auchenhowie to Ibrox and machinery then needed to lay it. Getting turf would never be an issue it’s the practicality of doing it.

Yeah but would some of it have to be sent out on loam? :)

Sherlock?

You stated that the pitch was getting worked on as we speak, and posted a picture from hours ago.

So dry your eyes.
Ain't disagreeing if you want to dissect my post which was posted in good faith.
Just received pics and posted them.

It has nothing to do with it being lifted at the end of the season. Can we please stop saying it was relaid as well! The pitch is never relaid. It's seeded!!!!

The hybrid was never installed.

The full hybrid is the plan but the cost is a high factor. The club need to accept it and put the money in.

This turf has nothing to do with the playing surface. You will notice that this turf is now in place of the astroturf (1m width) on the mainstand side. Basically the linesman line that they run up.

It was asked to get done by the players.
Happy to be corrected. What exactlty has went wrong this season then?Take away today's events the pitch this season is noticeably worse than previous years.
I stand by my other part of my post that our pitch has been 1 of if not best surface in Scotland at this time of year for number of years.

So what's your excuse as to why our pitch so shit this season?? No-one at all to blame??

Today, games have been played in Leeds, Fleetwood, Sheffield, Preston, Bolton, Accrington, amongst many others, where they have had as much rain as Glasgow - if not more. And they have had no break.

Our planning and maintenance programme has clearly failed this season. It was very poor at the boxing day game so don't say it is just post-break being unlucky with the weather etc.

And just to look at the pitch - I'm not seeing many/any top flight pitches looking anywhere near as poor as ours just in terms of visible appearance. Mistakes have been made. It's is quite clear.

If the game is on tomorrow or Monday, 90mins of football plus the rain over the next few days is going to destroy that pitch.

The Braga game could be a serious doubt, I read something about UEFA rules meaning the game would need to be played the following day (Friday) if Thursday doesn’t go ahead. Imagine us having to play on Friday then up to Perth on the Sunday.
