Sadly, the final resting place of Rangers Chairman Joseph Buchanan at Craigton Cemetery Glasgow which we found earlier today.Mr Buchanan’s stone will be put back in place and restored over the coming weeks.

Joseph Buchanan succeeded William Craig as chairman of Rangers Football Club Limited on the sad death of the latter in November, 1923

The future chairman joined the Club in 1894, the year in which we won the Scottish Cup for the first time. A Glasgow baker, with a business, the Broomloan Bakery, in Broomloan Road, he was appointed to the Board in 1915. He had been a member of the Abercorn club for many years. He was also a keen golfer, being a member of the Port Bannatyne Golf Club.

Joseph Buchanan was said to have an excellent knowledge of the game of football and football players. He provided wise counsel. He was another Ranger to serve the City of Glasgow, having held the office of Baillie. He died on 9 November, 1932 in a Glasgow nursing home having resigned as chairman a few weeks previously.

His grave at Craigton Cemetery is a short distance from that of Mr. Struth.

Outstanding work again lads and that’s why all donations how small are very much needed

Here's his death notice from The Glasgow Herald of 11th November 1932.

Found this picture of his headstone (still standing) on the Craigton Cemetery Heritage Trail website.

Have to say it looks a bit different from the one posted above - suppose that's what the ravages of time leading to it falling over and being partially buries does.

Joseph is entry number 14 on the site (link below), Bill Struth is number 12, John McPherson, ex player and director is number 25, Samuel Ricketts, ex player is number 51, James McBlane Watt, ex player and treasurer is number 53 and Peter and William McNeil are number 55.

Unfortunately the Buchanan stone has long since been knocked over.
