The Scottish Amateur Cup

Worked beside a guy who played for Colville Park, ex Junior. Tried to get reinstated to amateur but doctor said he was fine (late 1980's).
Another guy went in his place next time and he got go ahead to play amateur again !

Always been a Well run team. First amateur team I played for around 15 years ago in the old McEwans League, and then ran them for a season. Have an affiliation to Sauchie Juniors now.

Where were you watching them out of interest mate? Tullibody or Motherwell?

Hammered my team in the last round and a said they were a good young side who are going places ....

Good to hear. Tullibody will always be my team as far as amateurs go. Great memories playing for them. I really should get down and watch them, they play their home games about 300 yards from my house.

I think Goldenhill will be there or thereabouts this year. I would like to see Oban Saints do it but I don't think they're as strong as they have been in previous years.

Bannockburn put my team out, I thought they were an excellent side.

Was at the Bannockburn game on Sunday, their midfield were excellent

Hoping Eaglesham can do well this year. Started the season well with some game winning players. Club and village with a good heritage

Young boy up front for them is a bumper. Absolutely rapid.

Think Goldenhill are the only team to beat them this season in The West.

Nice one ,home tie for Oban Saints.

Yes, got to fancy them to get through that one. The quarter final draw has also been made but I’m not posting that, there’s too many ifs, buts and maybes.

Form would suggest Oban at Goldenhill in the QF though.

I’ve put Larkhall in bold because I’m sure they were comprehensively beaten by Maryhill Thistle on Saturday but that’s what’s come out of the draw. I’m unsure if this is a mistake or the match has to be replayed.

Douglas v Thorn (potentially) or Shortlees v Dumbarton the tie of the round I think.

The match was abandoned with 20 mins to go after the Larkhall boys started a fight by all accounts.

Follows on from a few reports about them this year. I saw on twitter the referee needed an escort away from the park after they exited the South of Scotland Cup last week too.

Heard them described as a gang by a few guys from Colvilles too. Never seen them myself but so could of course be wrong.

I heard that this afternoon after my post, thanks mate. They’ll likely be thrown out then.

They have got that in them.

Good luck to Oban, they seem to be struggling in the league but always manage a cup run.

Played very few games in the league, having said that early season form was relatively poor. Injuries, work etc meant many of the core of the squad that had done well previously were not available. These players are available now and the squad is as strong as it has been for a while.

Good to hear mate, they always have plenty youth coming through too which is good to see. Hopefully the league games gather momentum but understand cups take priority for organisers.

Goldenhill held by Tullibody at the weekend, replay away this weekend. Accies have a tough one at Shortlees.

Was surprised by that Goldenhill result. Heard they were 2 up and lost a goal with the last kick of the ball as well.

Expect them to get the job done in the replay.

Won’t get it all their own way mate gojng by reports. From speaking to a few boys, Tullibody are a cracking young side, and have all been together for 3 or 4 seasons now. They put out Dalziel in the last round. Granted I’ve no clue how good/bad they are these days.

Noticed they beat Dalziel that's a good result and they are clearly no mugs to get a draw with Goldenhill as well given the way their season is going. Tullibody don't seem to be doing very well in their league though which is surprising as it's a pretty average league they are in.

Goldenhill team is made up of the basis of the Goldenhill 21s team who won the Scottish a few seasons back.

Yeah their league form is baffling mate. You are spot on about the league, I always found it to be a bit more physical compared to the Central Scottish or Calley leagues. Tullibody are very much a ‘footballing’ side, and as said, they are quite young so maybe explains it a bit.

It’s a pity I’m away on holiday as I’d have definitely gone along to the replay.

I was surprised too mate, only because of what I’ve heard about Goldenhill because I haven’t seen them. I spoke to a guy that was there on Saturday and he says Goldenhill are ‘shite’.

He is neutral to both sides and I was surprised to hear that.

Scottish Amateur Cup Quarter Final Draw

Bridgewater or Harestanes v
St Pat’s or Alba Thistle

Sandys or Goldenhill or Tullibody v
Oban Saints or Yoker Athletic

Shortlees or Dumbarton Academy v
Douglas Althletic or Thorn

Tillicoultry or Stenhousemuir v
Maryhill Thistle or Larkhall or Bannockburn

As I posted above, the quarter final draw was made the same day as the last 16 draw. With so many last 32 ties still to be completed at that point it was too messy to post. It’s tidied up, a bit, now.

Last 16 ties will be played on Saturday 3rd of March.

First time for a good while no Fife teams left in at this stage, good to see a Dundee team still in,they used to have some cracking amateur teams but seem to have fallen by the wayside recently

Doesn't say much for the SAFL if that's the case as I believe Saturday is the only game they haven't won this season in all competitions. 20 odd games.

If I hadn’t seen a number of SAFL teams I’d be inclined to agree with you mate. In the recent past I’ve watched Oban, St Joseph’s, Motherwell Thistle, Barrhead Arky, Alba Thistle & EKFC and the standard has pleasantly surprised me.

Goldenhill could have had an off day on Saturday I suppose. Let’s see what the replay brings.

How does the amateur game compare with the Juniors?

I’ve not watched a junior game for a while but I’d fancy the top amateur sides to compete with the middle of the road junior clubs and possibly the top junior clubs on a one off basis but not consistently.

They quite often play frendlies against each other which are tight. Hard to gauge it in friendlies though.

There are players leaving/knocking back senior and junior clubs to play amateur.
