A bitter bitter sweet memory this game. On the one hand it was one of our greatest final victories of modern times, on the other it was the last final I attended with my great pal who died a few months later.
Nine men and a pigeonIf ever a game summed up Walter Smith, it was this game. That team would have ran through brick walls for their manager and left absolutely everything on that pitch for him. No other manager would be able to have that impact on a team.
yep right at the end of it where theres only about 3 rows. Lucky to get a rare good seat at hampden for such a special dayI was in the same section... South stand upper tier? Watching Walter stand there was incredible
Did you pump herEnded up talking to the barmaid
Please listen to the entire show, but for this story, from 41 minutes for the genius of The Gaffer.Try and get a listen to the Radio Clyde phone-in tonight. Kenny Miller revealed the background to the match, how it developed and how ultimately, Sir Walter intervened to save the day.
Thats what I remember most of that game, he was on the edge of the technical area the whole of the 2nd half.He was tremendous that day.
On the touch line barking out orders to everyone when he was initially taking a back seat for the cup games.
