STEVEN GERRARD is in talks to become the next Rangers manager.

SunSport can reveal the Liverpool legend is being lined up to replace Pedro Caixinha – seven months after the Portuguese coach was sacked.

Mark Allen is leading the Gers delegation
The sensational move would see Gerrard go head-to-head with his former Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow.

However it will also raise eyebrows among the Ibrox support with Rangers seemingly set to turn to a man with no previous managerial experience.

Following his retirement from football in 2016, Gerrard has been coaching Liverpool’s under-18s.

The Gers job would represent a significant stepup.

Gerrard lifted the Champions League as Liverpool captain in 2005
But it’s understood the former England international isn’t daunted by the size of the task or the challenge of restoring the club to its former glory.

Talks between all parties are said to be ongoing, but SunSport understands a deal is close with director of football Mark Allen leading the Ibrox delegation.

Gers chairman Dave King was pictured at Anfield on Tuesday night as he took in Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final win over Roma.

Gerrard was also present in his capacity as a BTSport pundit.

The move would end months of speculation andalso confirm that Graeme Murty’s time as interimmanager is coming to an end.

Wow this is bold and huge news.

Totally bamboozled by this. A massive gamble. I’m assuming Gerrard would demand a certain amount of cash for transfers if he were to take the job. Maybe King has found investment, who knows.

Perhaps we have limited options. When we went for McInnes DK said there were not a lot of suitable applicants. Maybe SG is the best available option.

I normally try and find positives and not pish all over everything I see on here.

But what the actual %^*& are the board thinking of!?

Stevie G was a fantastic player but hes a bastardin under 18s coach!!!

Winning mentality or not he's never had a fucking managerial job how the %^*& is he going to manage this! Might well have dealt with big demands and media and all that bollocks but for %^*& sake another cunting experiment

The sneaky uncles are stronger than they have been in years and it's ohhh Wel see how this goes again.

GET A REAL FUCKING MANAGER YOU STUPID CUNTS

That said hope Stevie does a fantastic job and this is quoted in a few years and I'm made to look a massive fanny.

As mentioned already , i'd love this to happen.

But - could this just be propaganda from our board around ST renewal time to pretend that they are looking at a big name ??

Seems like such a gamble when we are in a time where gambles have languished us from one crisi to another

Still will get my full support

Sublime player, if true hope he is the same calibre in management

If nothing else it will annoy one of the tims at my work whos obsessed with him

Shit just got real. Yeah it's a gamble but who can offer a realistic name who wouldn't be? This could be really exciting as I'm sure there just be some degree of a decent budget for him to come in.
