Fair point. It wasn't the best of reference points.

Point I am trying to make is that I am not sure why there is such a clamour to sign him.

Same (not to the same extent admittedly) as the clamour to sign Zungu.
He’s Dutch, we generally have a decent history with Dutch players, they mostly work with us, they have that arrogance in built in them we like in a player

Even ignoring our history with Dutch players most in the 25/50 age range who use forums tend to have a decent love of Dutch football

He’s being linked to some class sides

Our manager, scouts and coaching team tend to get additions rights

His age and skill set fit a profile our team probably does lack

Fans generally get excited by transfers

it’s really not a shock our fans are a bit enthused by it is it?

Listen mate i know our players are good i dont need you to tell me them. What im asking is for someone to inform me what the mass hysteria is. Going by it i cant understand why no1 wants him and also on our i dont understand why no1 wants them either

Football fans getting excited over transfer rumours isn't a new thing. Scouted by YouTube.

We also dont know that no one wants him. There could be a list of teams all waiting on Heerenveen dropping their asking price.

Just cause its not being reported doesn't mean Veerman doesn't have a long list of admirers.

As mentioned above. We signed Morelos and Barisic and I dont remember us battling any teams for their signatures.

The ideal window would be those two and Doekhi for me.

Highly doubt that’s a possibility though sadly.
I doubt Doekhi signs unless Goldson is sold and it seems the club are happy to keep Goldson around despite his contract situation Doekhi would be an excellent replacement though similar defensive style and range of pass on him and young enough to develop and sell on for huge profit

Don't listen to him he just goes by what Twitter say
This strange obsession you have of continually targeting folk has to end.

Anyway, moving on from irrelevance and onto the topic that matters re Veerman. The Dutch media reported the Hellas Verona bid as €5m euro. Take it up with them if you’ve got an issue.

Mass hysteria?

Why if veerman is so good is nobody want him ? Ive never seen him play in my puff so its a genuine question not an argument
Well the whole point in having a scouting system is to try and find players that are 'under the radar' or players who have certain attributes that fit our style, but may have one or two flaws in their game that put some bigger clubs off but we take the chance with the confidence that we can improve on or eradicate those weaknesses.

We'll never buy the finished article, purely because we can't compete financially for those players and generally they'd never come to Scotland anyway.

If we were shopping in the same market as loads of other clubs we'd be fucked!

If we qualified for the champions league and it was affordable I'd sign Doekhi and loan him back to Vitesse for a season ready to replace Goldson next season

Id be delighted with just Veerman if it means Goldson signs a new contract but sadly someone of value has to go.
So Veerman and whoever goes being replaced by someone with at least the potential to be even better would be fantastic.

I accept we may make improvements in some areas(Veerman and Lundstram in the midfield options) - but digress a little in the short term at least if someone like Goldson, Kamara or Morelos goes and their replacement isn't currently at the same level in others.

Just thinking there about Doekhi and Harroui both have under a year on there contracts who's to say we won't look to do a Lundstram/Sakala and go down the free transfer route ?

Bit of a long shot but you never know.

The argument doesn't really make sense. We sign players that could have 10 teams asking about them or no teams asking. We wont ever know other than what the media tell us or actual bids have been made and its factual.

That and the days of a club submitting a transfer offer before discussing it with the player or their agent are long gone. There may be other teams that were interested but Veerman wasn't keen and that ended the interest before a bid was submitted, or clubs were interested until finding out the potential cost and decided against it. Just because the only clubs being mentioned in the media are ourselves and Verona doesn't mean nobody else is/was interested - it just means we're the only two clubs the media are fairly certain about.

It's quite a funny thread, seems to be plenty grown men who simply can't cope with us not spending money like it is going out of fashion.

Free transfers are ignored as business as all that seems to matter to folk is how many millions we splash.

It is almost like us going to the brink never happened. The board must shell out or they are doing us a disservice.

Lundstram and Sakala is great business. Still having Goldson, Kamara and Morelos is great business.

Much could still change, but this breathless clamour for signings just reminds me too much of the Murray era. It's not even excitement from some, it is desperation it reads like.

I am still buzzing for what Gerrard, Wilson and the board are going to do. But if we can't afford Veerman for example, I am absolutely fine with that.

The thread is just getting bitter and twisted by folk still stuck in the Ibrox Casino mindset.

Think you are being extremely harsh mate. We are building something special. I think folk want to see us take the next step. I do agree with the premise of your argument though, if the window closed tomorrow, we would be in excellent shape for the season because the squad as a whole is already improved

i will never understand why people imply that others who know more than them about a player get all of their information from computer games, it’s beyond petty
I have no doubt that the majority on FF know more about footballers outside of Rangers than I do, I can barely work YouTube never mind any other sources! What gets me is that people post their suggested transfer fees and deal structures like they’re DoFs when the reality is that they have as much knowledge of how transfers in the real world work as you or me. I could be wrong in the assumption that that comes from playing FIFA, Championship Manager or the like, but I’d be willing to bet that there are a few who use that experience as their whole basis.

Happens in football sometimes I remember when it was just us and sheff wed in for mikey mols.
Edit..just seen someone say the exact same ;)

All this talk of “looks great on YouTube” Maybe we should be watching the YouTube videos of Ryan Kent and realising what a tremendous player we already have. Would take no more signings if it meant keeping that guy. Long may he call Ibrox home!!

To be fair our board clearly feel pretty comfortable spending money when it’s worth the spend… Murray was a fanny, Whyte was a lady's front bottom, the rest… not even worth speaking about it, but ,their incompetence/whatever else you want to call it to run a football club doesn’t mean the current board can’t and aren’t going to offer our manager funds to spend.

They aren’t scared to spend money when worth it based on what’s gone before. It’s highly likely we spend this summer even factoring in the deficit, albeit, we might spend with the expectancy of departures this window as well.
