The transformation of Rangers

Both on and off the pitch the turnaround has been incredible.

Due to dark forces of greed outwith our control and comprehension planted in the final days of our old egotistical custodian with many despicable acts and characters who tarnished our club for their own means, from periods of despair with very little hope when battles were more commonplace in court with spivs than meaningful on field ones, from Kevin Kyle, Ross Perry, Cammy Bell, booting balls at bare arses at training, play off losses, Murty, McDowell, Pedro and caravans, Pena, Newcastle loanees to the idea of appointing McInnes as boss, the lengthy period was awful.

Step forward Dave King and Co who got the boardroom in order, took on the parasites and started turning us round and the current board continue to do things well. Commercially things are better. Bisgrove looks to be earning his salary. Not being saddled with sports direct is a weight off the clubs shoulders but the biggest positive despite the thoughts of incompetent pricks like Spiers at the time, was the appointment of Steven Gerrard and subsequently allowing him to build his backroom team to what it is today. This includes Ross Wilson, a huge upgrade on his predecessor.

The job Gerrard and co faced was tough. We had a squad that was not fit for purpose and the so called experts predicted we were 70m and about a decade behind our rivals. Bit by bit, position by position the squad has been strengthened but some fabulous bargains have been had . Davis, McGregor, Kamara, Aribo, Barisic and Balogun for example certainly didn't break the bank. The board also backed our boss by spending initially on Arfield and Goldson (money well spent) and more recently Ryan Kents loan turned permanent for a hefty fee, Roofe, Helander and Hagi.

Progress has been obvious despite last seasons promising showings to the winter break being somewhat of a false dawn domestically, the European performances were great and restored pride and confidence amongst the fans.

What would this season bring? Well if you listened to the ever biased Scottish media, we had no chance, also rans, miles behind Celtic and Terry Munro was a certainly despite last season being curtailed in typical Spfl farcical fashion.

We know the media spout shite constantly. Buffoons like Sheridan bigging up washed up Brown, now departed Lennon and Shaine cart horse Duffy as a guarantee to success has only added to the joy of what's unfolding. Years of arrogance and self entitlement setting them up for the mightiest of falls so spectacular that even Lawwell is fucking off soon.

All well and good but Rangers have had to earn our lead in the league and earn it we have. From the usual random computer says send them to sheep pen on match day one where this new guy Balogun had a great game and Alfie showed glimpses of a newer role that allows him to come deeper at times dragging defences with him and playing Kent in to the space he created to score the games only goal. It was the perfect start and set us on our way.

Beating the barrier throwers so easily at sharkhead was glorious and the early season form with the exception of a goalless draw at Livingston and a 2 2 at Hibs where we really should have won was something to behold. Tavernier and Goldson were especially good during this period but everyone contributed including McLaughlin in goals for a bit.

In Europe our excellent form from last season has continued with some brilliant displays at home and abroad and winning the group a great achievement. Some of the goals have been exceptional. Roofe from his own half a highlight but some of the passing team goals an utter joy and Alfie now our record European goal scorer, top achievement and a credit to him, those creating for him and the management for setting us up the way they do and inspiring the belief.

At this point, still unbeaten in the league and Europe we can surely celebrate a long wasted title soon and when clinched it will be glorious, deserved and emotional for many.

From boycotts to help rid us of bastards and not really looking forward to watching a rudderless team of plodders to the cusp of title 55 and a last 16 in European tie to enjoy whist not lining a fat bullies pockets and seeing the most magnificent timplosion imaginable unfold before us is joyful.

The club are making us proud again. Gerrard is a class act and a footballing great. Our players play with confidence, skill and passion and the squad is one of quality and value and the football at times is exquisite, none more so than Ryan Kent's goal on Thursday evening. I cannot wait for our next game and the next and the next. The team have helped me and n doubt most of you though these troubled and restricted times. It's sad we haven't been able to attend but brilliant what the team are doing.

In Tav, Goldson, Davis and McGregor were have the top four performers in the league. Kent, Aribo, Alfie, Borna, Arfield, Jack, Kamara, Balogun, Helander, Roofe, Hagi, Itten, Defoe and others have at times stepped up and delivered. There's a great spirit within. Thst spirit has lifted us all. In Gerrard we have a class act and the board is full of people we can trust.

All that remains is getting over the finishing line in the league, getting as far as we can in the Europa and enjoying it for what has been a miraculous turn around in a short time and building on this season iby improving the squad where possible and cashing in on our upturn in form commercially and it's great to be able to trust the club to do so.

It’s been one hell of a roller coaster.
The lows have been gut wrenching but it’s always darkest before the dawn.

I will celebrate this title more than any I ever have and spare a thought for the family & friends who didn’t live to see it.

The players & management will rightly get the plaudits they have earned ( from us if not from our friends in the media but I will be giving huge thanks to the fans who stood by us when we were royally shafted and to the Three Bears and the others who continue to put their hands in their pockets for us.

Best post iv'e read on here for a long time.....kudos to you mate

Despite some bad results last season I think we could see progression. We just kept making expensive individual mistakes which were costing us points. I can’t think of one of those instances this year. Not one! The difference has been mental strength Which in top level sport is the differentiation between success and failure.

That’s a great read. I always believed we’d get back on top, but there were some terrible moments along the way-remember Sports Direct taking control of our trade marks?

Dave King and the 3 Bears coming on board was our turning point and we’ve made massive strides since then.

This title is going to be the sweetest ever, partly because of all the turmoil in the last 10 years, but also because we are in better shape on and off the park than we’ve ever been.

WOW Factor, of a Post!

Tremendous post paisleyprod and got me thinking about all the bad times we suffered.

What about that pair of pricks that ran the bus company from Greenock? To think of them swanning about our stadium when they should have been nowhere us still sickens me to the core.

Thank the Lord for Dave King and the three bears for without them you wonder what would have become of us.

We most certainly would not be sitting here waiting to enjoy 55 and the scum would very likely be marching on past ten in a row.

Now we will all have the greatest and sweetest celebrations we've ever had following the club we all love to death. God bless the Rangers.

The only blackspot in the Board's book is bringing in Pedro, that whole episode was just a nightmare and littered with players who weren't good enough to wear the jersey. But how they've made up for that and some by bringing in Stevie and now you just can't wait for the next game. What a turnaround.

Yes the board have made the odd error but that was probably expected considering the state we were in even at the time of appointing Pedro we had so much shit to deal with and many battles to fight.

Useful idiots for the southern spivs maybe.

They had no place at Ibrox

Roll on Wednesday.
‘A’ get your spelling sorted. Camphill for me and Billy Leckie to be fair. Did you go to St Aelreds

Tremendous post reminding all of us were we have all came from in the last nine years, my only grump is none of the scum ever ended up in the jail, including those who are about to be handed a fortune from us the tax payer.

Great post PP. Professionalism is the key to our rise, in every aspect of our great club. A malaise had set in and mediocrity was being accepted. Dave King had seen enough and picked up the gauntlet. Mr King and the three bears must be sitting full of pride and no doubt some relief that their goal has almost been achieved. Roll on Flag day !

I think the bit you mention about 'cannot wait for the next game ', is so true for thousands of us, I would imagine. The lockdowns have virtually stopped our normal lives, and Rangers games have been such a massive jag in the arm (excuse the pun) for our well being.
I know stacks of bears who wish we played every day. Daft, I know, but they are exciting us so much, I think we just live from game to game.
Brilliant!!!

The rapidly of the club's turnaround - almost a miracle in retrospect - is due principally to Dave King. It was King who began the clear out of the rogues and charlatans who had been using the club as a personal ATM, gradually replacing them with individuals who held a genuine desire to restore Rangers to the forefront of Scottish football.

One this was accomplished, the next stage was to install a management team who had the requisite talent and vision to turn things around on the field. This was not going to be easy because Rangers had been a dysfunctional club for almost a decade, not a team that would likely attract the best available talent.

Then we had the 'miracle' of Gerrard. Out of the blue , without warning almost, we ended up with one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, a player admired and respected around the world as the new Rangers
manager!!! I myself could scarcely believe it. The only possible downside to this, was that as a rookie - would the job of turning Ranger around be too much to expect of him? After all, many great former players who tried there hand at management fell flat on their face. Would Gerrard be another?

But almost from the get-go you sensed that Gerrard was up to the task. With the full backing of the board, he slowly but surely began to improve the team. The 'miracle' was that in just three years, he took the team from rank mediocrity, to a team currently enjoying an 18pt lead over sellick - who would ever have thought it possible? Certainly not me.

If things continue as they are, we might well be on the cusp of creating a new dynasty, a period of sustained Rangers dominance. This is certainly possible especially when you look at the current chaos at the piggery.

We've all had complaints over the past three seasons at different points but when you take a step back and look at Gerrards tenure overall it's genuinely incredible.

We are now the modern, forward thinking football club that thousands of clubs across Europe will model themselves on going forward.

This is the best Rangers team I have seen play in Europe.

I was so deflated and being a Rangers fan for the past decade (never embarrassed though). I can't put it into words how Gerrard has turned us around and how much it means to us, I can only thank him for doing it.

This is a special time in the clubs history, as a support we really need to enjoy every moment of it.

Not even embarrassed by David Somers at the agm or getting hosed 5 1 at home by the beasts?

Whilst I will never be embarrassed to be bear and I think of cringe moments like I mention.

Your points are decent though mate

Both on and off the pitch the turnaround has been incredible.

Due to dark forces of greed outwith our control and comprehension planted in the final days of our old egotistical custodian with many despicable acts and characters who tarnished our club for their own means, from periods of despair with very little hope when battles were more commonplace in court with spivs than meaningful on field ones, from Kevin Kyle, Ross Perry, Cammy Bell, booting balls at bare arses at training, play off losses, Pedro and caravans, Pena, Newcastle loanees to the idea of appointing McInnes as boss, the lengthy period was awful.

I've read a lot of your posts over the years, and this surpasses anything you have previously written. Well said mate.

Being a Rangers fan means more to me than an AGM or a defeat to the mentally challengeds.

I have been embarrassed, even ashamed, by individual events that have happened over the past 10 years.

I have never, and I will never, be embarrassed to be a Rangers fan. Rangers is my identity and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The only blackspot in the Board's book is bringing in Pedro, that whole episode was just a nightmare and littered with players who weren't good enough to wear the jersey. But how they've made up for that and some by bringing in Stevie and now you just can't wait for the next game. What a turnaround.
Thing is, although it was an horrendous appointment, unlike earlier boards, it was made with the best of intentions.

I know and I dare say that at the time they must've thought we were getting the next Jose. Thankfully no looking back to that.

Good read mate,enjoyed that.
I think the Rangers support must take credit as well.We have been patient,I certainly had faith in the current board and saw bit by bit the rebuilding job that these guys are doing.
Also,we have seen Steven Gerard grow and develop into a Rangers manager that we can all identify with.
He seemed to get us from the off.
