Official The Winter 2024/25 Rangers Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

I honestly thought Diomande was gonna be our main man. Aside from the odd pirouette he doesn’t look anywhere near a 4.5m player. We can talk about systems till we’re blue in the face but good players should stand out in bad teams and he is nowhere near one of our stand out players.

He seems to play well alongside Raskin, but struggles when paired with Barron.

He was outstanding in both the Spurs and celtic games, so he can definitely hack it against the better opposition, as long as he has a good partner alongside him.
When you're only playing with 2 out and out midfielders, then one of them cannot be of a much poorer level than the other.

Rangers Review saying we have a 10% sell on clause for Malik Tillman.

"Tillman made his loan move from Bayern Munich to PSV Eindhoven permanent last summer in a £12 million deal, landing Rangers a reported £1.2 million windfall after the German giants had a change of heart about an agreed deal to allow the Ibrox club to sign him after his loan spell.

Rangers received the compensation after the Bundesliga club pulled out of the agreement and a further 10 per cent sell-on fee was included in the settlement.

Bayern have a buy-back agreement in place to re-sign Tillman for £35 million, which would entitle Rangers to a cool bonus of £3.5 million."

If that's true and that'll all comes to fruition it'll be incredible business for a loanee.

i’m going to disagree with the athleticism bit as i feel he drops out of games and to me it looks like he does this when he’s knackered. It just seems he’s not fit enough to last 90 mins.

He’s a bit of skinny big lad and in terms of holding players off he’s decent and is great at doing his half turns to get away from players. He’s a decent tackler too.
But i’m not yet sure he’s got a great engine in him yet hence the dropping out of games he does.
Said it before and I will say it again I think you see the best of dio in a 3 man midfield. None of this 4231 nonsense that we play. There’s also a reason why we usually have very little control in midfield during games. We are out numbered in there a lot of the time and the number 10 doesn’t work hard enough

Hopefully just me being pessimistic but I'd be really surprised if that was actually true. Never heard of a sell on clause being applied that way.

Sounds overly generous as well if the rumours around the original deal were true, that would have cost Bayern less to buy him back from us.

Stewart revealed the club will sign a maximum of one or two players this month but also stressed they have no intention of selling key assets like Hamza Igamane.

The Rangers chief executive also addressed the club's transfer plans, saying January "isn't a particularly fruitful window". However, he did confirm they are looking at centre-back options amid a current defensive injury crisis and added there could be opportunities to fast-track moves for some players on their radar.

Overall, Stewart's message was the club had spent too much money on "quick fixes" and the plan was to avoid "repeating the same mistakes" in the transfer market. "We are making sure it's the club signing players and not the manager signing players or signing players for a specific manager,"

Stewart said. "So we need to do have real focus and discipline when it does come to player trading. Injuries have created challenges, but they're returning and that will bolster the squad without us having to panic buy. And that's what we want to avoid, is any panic buying."

He’s had a pish season but he’s not pish.
He is pish, had one good season last season otherwise his entire senior career in top division football had been pish to average. An average of 8 goals a season for a striker is absolutely pish. He’s reverted to type or slightly below.

Surely he should be standing out though?? Why isn’t he taking responsibility in there? He’s posted missing most away games. He’s one of our major outlays and we need much more from him.

What are the good parts of his game?? Passing?? Not seen it?? Shooting?? Not seeing it?? Dictating play?? Yet to see it? He shows flashes of being a player but really doesn’t suit Scottish football.
His ball retention, transitional play & late runs into the box. He’s a more attacking Kamara if played properly.

The problem is, our manager wants to go direct at the 1st chance he gets, no one is near him with his transitional play (which is fine as a counter attacking side in Europe, but not in the league) & he struggles to make runs into the box, because he’s covering the gaps we leave to play 4 forwards.

Put Dio into a Gerrard, Gio (or even Beale) 433 at LCM & you’d see the player we are supposed to see.

I tend to agree with this. He also plays on the right side of the 2 which to me is mental. Left side of the 3 he would be better. Still should be seeing more from him now though.

His ball retention? Barron can also retain the ball,he’s doing nothing but retaining it. Where’s the assists, the creating chances?? He’s not doing enough bud. Cameron has 8 assists and 7 goals from a Dundee midfield. That’s miles better than what Dio is offering us.

Barron is more akin to Jack though, he’s a ball winner who likes winning the ball & keeping it simple.

As for the assists & creating chances. Our manager restricts his ability to get into the areas required to do that. Cameron plays in an advanced midfield role & Dundee expect him to be the playmaker (what we expect Bajrami to do).

If he could play next to someone like Cameron, with Raskin behind them & share the defensive & attacking responsibility, we would be a much more balanced side & Dio’s numbers would improve.

Looks like Cagliari are looking to take Dessers on loan don’t know if that means an option or obligation.
“On the list, as told in recent days, the former Feyenoord and now to the Rangers Glasgow Dessers, Cagliari' old ball and in an exit from the Scottish club. Also in this case it would be a loan with redemption right”

Loan to buy. Absolutely not what we need

I think it cannot be true. Psv had no say in our discussions so I'm not sure how they'd be forced to hand us 3.5m

Only way I thought it would work is that it comes out of Bayern's pocket and doesn't affect PSV. So they would have agreed to pay us 10% on top of the agreed buy back fee, so they pay PSV 35m and us 3.5m.

Either that or Bayern would have told PSV when the first transfer was being agreed that there's a buy back for 35m but PSV will have to forfeit 10% of that to go to us. Would then be up to PSV to decide whether they agree to it.

Either way just seems a bit too good to be true for us.

Yeah I’d not be surprised if Dessers goes out on loan with obligation to buy
People should just see that as the financial engineering it is. A loan with an obligation to buy is the same as a straight sale, it just allows the buying club to defer the impact of the amortisation of the fee to start in the following year’s accounts and financial sustainability calculations.

He’s nowhere near Ryan Jack pal. Diomande is nowhere near restricted in the team,he’s restricted by either lack of confidence or lack of ability. I hope it’s the former but fear it will be the latter.

do we know who recommended / scouted for Igamane ? was it Koppen or someone else ? as whoever it was I would trust their judgement again....
Pretty sure they were scouting another lad and Morocco under 21s were playing in Wales. Igamane scored two and hit the post with what would have been one of the best goals you’ve seen.

We'll use it loads ourselves. If the teams involved are happy to do it, I don't think it can be seen as an issue.

I think Gerrard would have tried him in the front three like he did with Aribo, personally.
