This offside rule

We moan about officials while the game's administrators make their job harder and harder. Just rewind to the last point where most people knew what the rules were and go from there.

The ball came to Benzema due to a deflection so couldn’t be classed as having been deliberately played.
A deflection is when the ball hits a player who has no control over the ball. In the Benzema case the Liverpool player deliberately played the ball with his knee in order to push it into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Basically the VAR decided he didn't.
They analysed it for ages and decided it was a block by Konate, not a deliberate play of the ball (blocks do not count as a deliberate play of the ball).
It if you try to block it and don't get it fully ans the ball takes a slight deflection then it couts as a deliberate attempt. This is what is stupid about the rule.

When the old league cup had a line across the 18 yard line where you couldn’t be offside until you crossed over it, that lead to defending deeper making less space around the box, if you take offside away then a forward could camp in the box with two defenders which would kill our sport
But when you play out from the back, strikers would have to track defenders or they would be out numbered
