Todd Cantwell's stats at Blackburn

Obviously in this case stats become irrelevant as he has been anonymous in most of their games.
This is categorically incorrect. It took him a while to get going but has been motoring for a few weeks now.

He has absolutely dominated the match today too. Head and shoulders above the rest would be a gross understatement.

Todd Cantwell was a peacock we didnt let fly :(

Cantwell was pushed out of the club. There’s only one person who could do that and that was our manager who showed his dislike for Cantwell from the time he became manager. He was aided by the unjustified and harsh criticism Todd got from fans. Could never understand why so many fans disliked the lad. In my eyes he was one of the most talented in the squad.

He was disliked because he acted like a bellend. For all the manager's faults you can't blame him for the Cantwell situation. When a player refuses to follow on field intructions (to the extent that he has to be hauled off after half an hour) then posts cryptic messages about being a "caged bird" the blame lies solely with the player.

What was this unjust and harsh criticism?

I watched the game too and I think head and shoulders above the rest is a bit generous. He played ok, scored a penalty and missed some sitters.

What you mean is he scored a penalty. No player dominates a game with team possession of 28%.

He is a fandan type who flatters to deceive and is no real loss.

I'm glad he is gone, has a shit ton of growing up to do.

A talented footballer, but still waiting for his baws to drop.

Did you watch the game? I assume not.

He was a livewireband massively problematic for Leeds almost every time he got on the ball.

It's not his fault his team couldn't achieve more than 28% possession. Has he scored the 2 sitters he missed, the possession stats would be the same and you couldn't argue that he dominated.

100%

Who would have thought dropping players to the B team wouldn’t maximise their value? Same with Hagi, no team is going to come in and pay decent money for a player who isn’t even training with the first team.

We accepted £600k for him and Celtic got £3m for Mickey Johnstone! In the summer they also sold Oh, Haksabanovic and Iwata all for more than we took for Cantwell. You go back to last season and they got more for Turnbull and fvcking Idaguchi who barely even kicked a ball.

Cantwell is a banger but we handled the whole situation badly to the detriment of only ourselves.
A genuine serious question, when as a club did we last handle a situation well ?

Something like 25 g/a for us in 60 odd games. A much better no10 than someone like Lawrence but not sure his personality would ever have worked out well for Rangers

To the many defending the expected assists stat, can you explain how it is formed? Most are blaming the striker but if a cross into the box that is met with a challenged header = 0.10 or something, then it doesn't take long to add up to 3.33. Especially over the 14 or so games he's played. Without knowing how it is measured, I feel both he and that criteria are given far too much credit. Happy to stand corrected. Is winning a penalty an expected assist of .75? I really don't know how it's formed.

Maybe im in the minority but i always felt we played better football when he was in the 10 position. We seemed to have more of a style, whenever we swapped him with Lawrence last season we lost the was we played, nice one twos and moving the ball quickly.

Think it was time for him to move on as he and Clement clearly didnt see eye to eye.

At same time l think its a position we are now in need of a new player. Bajrami many thought would get the nod in that position but that now looks unlikely as he never seems to get the chance even after subs. Dio also has struggled when in the 10 position although looked decent the other night in europe. Lawrence and Hagi decent options but one is always injured and the other i dont think the manager fancies.

I still dont know if it was poor management or he was just a complete waster. I wonder how the other players reacted to him in the dressing room ? usually a good indicator. But he did have some very decent games , especially a few against the filth
I think any attack minded player will struggle under Clement with the way he has us playing. Don’t think it’s any secret that he and Cantwell didn’t see eye to eye. Probably because Cantwell didn’t want to be chasing the ball over his head like a dog in a park 85% of the game.

Regardless of the manager, Cantwell wasn't good enough, in attitude or actual play. Being good in the English Championship doesn't change that. People rewriting the evidence we saw over many games.
Cantwell wasn’t good enough and I wasn’t his biggest fan at all but I would have him in my team ahead of Lawrence everyday of the week and he has started 14 games for us this season. He has started in almost every game he has been available.

As much as I liked cantwell as a player anyone that forces the move away from Rangers will never know what they’ve had till there gone, it’s all downhill from there. He would of started 90% of games this season in my opinion if he was still here. He’s picked Middlesbrough away on the Wednesday instead of European football and spanking nice and that sums him up. On a side note I was working on Norwich a few month ago and 3 of there fans said dowell was a better player than cantwell, apparently he got called dowelldinho by some of there support .

When did Cantwell ever actually produce for us?
After his first 6 months, there were threads on here wanting him made Captain. It was constant praise - https://www.followfollow.com/forum/threads/todd-cantwell.241532/ He scored 6 and assisted 5 in the equivalent of 16 games in his first 6 months.

The next season, for some reason Beale took him out for Lammers initially; but Cantwell still finished last season with 8 goals and 7 assists in the equivalent of 31 games. A goal or assist in every other match seems pretty impressive.

26 goal contributions in 18 months isn’t bad.

As a comparison, Lawrence got 11 in his first 24 months, and Dowell 5 in 16 months.

He didn’t produce as much as we wanted him to; but he still produced more often than most other players - and that’s my point.

Almost as if it's Blackburn and the Championship is a steaming pile of shit as well?

Bajrami is a far better player than Cantwell. Deary me.

He might be a lovely guy but he couldn't handle the pressure up here. Isn't the first and won't be the last. Easier to slide away back into mediocrity of the English lower leagues where a point away from home is a great result.
Big statement that. I've not seen anything to suggest that

This is bollocks.

He was desperate to leave.

Clements "instructions" - whatever the fook they are - must infuriate most players. They look completely lost in most games.

Todd Cantwell is an absolute wee lassie.

Spent ages attention seeking on social media. Got in to arguments with his own fans, and even worse, Chris Sutton.

Got to the point of then saying he never asked to leave on instagram, then immediately saying he wanted to leave in his first interview at Blackburn cause the place felt different before correcting himself 2 sentences later.

This is a man who cannot deal with any criticism playing for Rangers Football Club. Ridiculous.

Extremely confident in himself and extremely thick to boot. STILL posting shite about us on social media.

Didn’t help that our own fans were constantly abusing him on social media because they were far too emotional about his Instagram habits.

Find it wild that the majority of our fans will put up with guys like Matondo, Dowell, Yilmaz etc because they’re quiet on social media but don’t produce anything for the team. Yet they’ll get so worked up over players who can produce, but just because they’ve said something daft on social media.

You think Cantwell’s issues were only social media related?

He done more talking a good game on Social Media than he ever done on the pitch.

So he's one of the better players in a mid-table Championship side

Great. Found his level.

Which is currently a level above Rangers domestic form

thought you might have kept your head down when judging players are saying Igamane wouldn't get a game for Maryhill Juniors

I never had a probelm with Cantwell but he didn't seem to have the mentality to play for Rangers and Clement clearly didn't like him

Cantwell could have been a hero, a proper club legend, he had all the tools required needed to fill a massive hole for us but he had to be willing to park the ego and play for the team.

Instead it had to all be about Todd. And it will be again when he leaves Blackburn in the huff in 18 months time.

A fanny of a boy.

I liked Todd as a footballer bit of flare and he worked hard but was easily wound up and his behaviour was not that befitting a Ranger’s player so goodbye and good luck if only he had showed a bit of humility and maturity and understanding of what it is to be a Ranger then it could’ve been a whole lot different.

That’s exactly my point. Those 2 things aren’t on the same scale.

I’d prefer a player who talks a good game and falls short of matching it; than a player who talks no game and provides no game.

Definitely on fire!

I get that expected assists is a new thing but there should be a way to credit players who are being let down by teammates. Dessers missed a sitter on Thursday - doesn’t make the cross any worse.
Not the best example.
Dessers chest control was brilliant, as much an assist as the cross.
His finish though!
